Hi Rob, great tutorial on Floyd setup! I like how you wrote the date and taped it on the headstock. The only real differences between the Floyd 1500 and the 1000 is the 1500 had stainless steel bolts, and the push in arm. Both are made in Korea versus the original Floyd which is made in Germany. That's the real difference. I actually replaced the arm and the bushing that it screws into on my Floyd road 1000 with the exact same parts, but the made in Germany versions. Way better quality than the made in Korea. I know a lot of people have issues with the Floyd screw in arms coming loose so upgrading to the German made parts definitely help.
@@2974dc I've never had an issue yet in the 4 years I've had it and I play in B standard, so I'm using 12-64 Ernie Ball mammoth slinky's. I make sure they're tight but I don't reef them down. Tho I suppose it's to be determined.
Just got a used Carvin DC400 with a Floyd trem for 1k a month or so (not sure which FR it has but it's good) and it's made me realize I'm willing to deal with FR trems again after only using fixed bridge guitars. Even made a JP60 with a floating trem into a fixed bridge with a wooden block So these Jacksons, besides being sleek beasts with EMGs, really interest me. Will definitely order one sometime in the future Gonna setup my Carvin the next time with your vid Rob, though keeping it in standard

Rob is the man! If any of you play evertunes please check out his tutorials on them. Because of rob I don’t even take my guitars into the shop anymore. Thanks Rob! 🙌
Thanks Rob! I’ve played hardtails all my life, but I got a Jackson Dinky with a FR 1000 last year and I love it. I’ve been dreading a string change, but this vid really makes it seem less intimidating. Those new soloists are looking pretty damn 🔥🔥🔥
My findings with the floyd rose whammy bar attachment seem to be pretty much the exact same. The screw in method technically gives much more versatility in movement, especially on the fly. I actually opted to install the push-in/pull-out bar in my FR1000, because (probably because my guitar is older and the tolerances have improved?), but I always had a rattle, and while you could swing the trem around, couldn't get it to stay in place without it loosening after a while. I have seen videos of ways to prevent the rattle, though. I love the quietness and steadiness of the push-in bar, but the screw-on does also feel more direct for the very subtle movements imo. I guess it all comes down to personal preference. The traditional twist style on the fr1000 also lends itself to having the funny bar with the built-in allen key (if you don't want to use a hexhider or those headstock screw-in ones). I had a cheap one and it did the job, but it was a little light.
Man that jackson polar burst is so damn gorgeous! I commented on it when you made the video about it and you recommended it to which i was on the fence about and you said to let you know if i get it.. well, i didnt but i instead got an LTD mirage deluxe (turquoise) and gotta say im in love with it!! great guitar!! Thanks for the vids brother!!
Cool video as usual Rob, thanks. Lol, I just went to Floyd Rose website and bought an original trem arm and bushing for my virtuoso. I couldn't agree with you more about the trem arm and I never thought of that. Thats a super cool guitar, I hope they do a virtuoso like that with the emg's, I'll buy one. Heres a tip from a no body, try the floyd rose noiseless trem springs the next time you set that up, I think you'll dig em.
Dude that's awesome! I'm happy to hear you actually went ahead and grabbed a new arm for yourself!💪 I know you'll be happy you did! I just ordered an 81for my Virtuoso, and I'll be popping it in, in an upcoming video! Stay tuned!🎸
Awesome content as always Rob. I love that you enjoy doing a setup on your guitars. I enjoy performing a setup and maintaining as much as I enjoy playing. Watched your vid on the polar burst and now this one and I learn something new all the time. Just bought myself a Dean from hell with a Floyd so i'm looking forward to making it my own and perfecting the setup. Bought in the USA but now just nee to get it down to Australia. Looking forward to the next vid my man
Hi there do you have a video to solve a tuning problem when I press 12 fret the tuning is sharper, but when I moving a screw on a saddle to fix it ...the open string goes out of tune. Please help, maybe someone have that problem? Thanks
I’m relatively new to FRs, I’ve only been playing them for about 4-5 years, but I’ve done a lot of experimenting with the 3 vs 4 spring thing because my 2 Floyd’s are both 7 strings, so this issue comes up a lot. In my experience, the number of springs in the back does not effect how how “spongy”, or how relaxed or tense the Floyd is to use. This is because the tension on the springs has to be exactly the same as the tension on the strings to balance at its zero point whether it’s 3 or 4 springs. If anything I feel like having 4 springs that are more relaxed/compressed is easier to use than 3 springs that are more extended with heavy gauge strings. But that’s not because of the number of springs, it has more to do with the resting state. It’s harder to stretch a spring more that is already stretched out. But either way, the differences are very negligible. I did find however, that the FU-Tone springs were more spongy than the regular springs that came with it he Floyd whether it was 3 or 4. But the FU-Tone springs very obviously have a different metallic composition. I would love to do some more experimenting to see if I’m right, but that is what I go by because it’s just what I’ve found to be true from my own experiences. I just use however many springs the guitar needs to balance in an optimal resting state with whatever gauge I’m using. By optimal, i mean stretched a little so there’s room to pull back, but relaxed as possible for the smoothest dive.
I just got one of these bad boys in black with the Hipshot bridge..first ever soloist with a hard tail I’m hearing. Anyway, I’m not really a six string guy, but this has so many features that checked every box for me I had to do it. It’s a really really well-made guitar
Hi Rob really like your informative shows . I am looking to get my first Jackson however I'm an torn between the Virtuoso and the Soloist MG with EMG's . Reason being I have a Gibson Goldtop Les Paul. Would like a Jackoson for the difference it has over a Gibson Les Paul however would also like to go the whole hog and go for the EMG pickups . Are they that much of difference to normal humbuckers or more nasal sounding . I love both brought up on heavy rock but Metalica and Testment are in there too. ❤
Man I love them both! They're both fantastic in so many ways. However, I'm about to throw an EMG 81 into my Virtuoso (video coming soon), so maybe hearing that will help you make your decision?
I was just thinking about your setup vids last couple days, if you believe! I'm trying to iron out my high-e before I give up and go up a gauge so any reminder is useful!
@@RobArnoldWorld Well I cannot seem to get my high-e string to ring clear. I switched to 8-38 and even got some set up tips from Paul Gilbert himself on how to make them work. Paul said “High action, enough to grip the strings at the first frets. Might have to relax the truss”… I’m starting to think it’s just the gauge of strings, but how come so many legends of the past and even today swear by them? I’m gonna try one more maybe myself to tweak this guitar and if it doesn’t work, I’m definitely going to 9-gauge. (I’m old school, I play 6-string in E-standard 😝)
Nice! I've recently become obsessed with Paul Gilbert! He's the man! Cool that you got some tips directly from him! But yeah, it's all a balancing act, and making fine adjustments to all the adjustable parts, so that each string rings true all across the fret board. In your situation, I think I would try loosing the truss, or raising the treble side of your bridge. Since I like a low action though, I'd probably try the bridge route first!@@8KilgoreTrout4
I traded my FR. Half because of the work involved, and half because I couldn't get ot to feel right. The only other double locking trem I played could dump all the string tension, wanted that in mine, and never figured it out.
I just recently bought an ‘89 Charvel Fusion Deluxe and bought a brand new Schaller Floyd for it and ordered this exact whammy bar from Floyd Rose and swapped them out because I prefer the slip in style lol. All these parts are interchangeable so do whatever you like!
Great info here, was curious as to whether the intonation is semi close when you go from factory strings/setup to custom gauges? Also, had you already set the action and truss rod prior to all this as looked like this change from 9 - 11 was fairly simple. Thanks
Yeah it was all very playable immediately after the switch. However, I'll still dial in the action and then intonation afterwards. They'll need some fine tuning. But I'm saving that for another video. Stay tuned!🎸
I got a Japan made Jackson Soloist, it's a shredder and it though me how to properly setup a guitar. I recommend everyone having atleast one floyd rose in the tool chest.
This guy and james murphy from testament obituary death etc...are my fav musicians both make really solo albums working with the best but rob is a mad scientist with the engineering and mixing
Hello man enjoy your videos. I just wanted to say I bought the Arrow 200 ltd in drab green and love it. Only thing is I wish they would have done the logo in white instead of black like this Jackson. Anyway keep rockin and making awesome videos 🤘🏻
I love all your videos Rob, I'm following you since you started your channel, one question, how about the intonation? you didn't check how it was at the 12th fret, i find that's something necessary when you change all your setup, don't you think so?
Thanks dude! I opted to save the intonation for afterwards, or for another video. We were nearing the one hour mark, and I thought it was a good time to end the video where I did. But yes, intonation is definitely necessary after a big change like this.
Love the black hardtail jackson,im kickin myself in the ass, almost got a cheap jackson before i got my ibanez rgra 6,the hell w the rude comments rob do what you want
I sense you are like me Rob. I’m major OCD about keeping my guitars clean. I see some people whose guitars are very dirty and it drives me crazy. lol. To each his own I guess.
Jackson is putting out nice stuff! Have you tried the Charvel stuff? I just picked up a Charvel So Cal Pro Mod. Always liked the modded Strat look. Plus getting my hands on a LTD is impossible right now. First Floyd but i got your videos to help!
As you can see behind me, I always have about 8 guitars out in rotation, depending on certain situations and projects I'm working on. But the rest of my collection remains cased up at all times!🎸
Nice one. Out of curiosity, a good while back, you demonstrated some Dimarzio pickups and spoke of them favourably. Do you still use them or are you inclined towards actives?
I'm actually about to put 81's into all of my recent non-81 equipped acquisitions! The DiMarzio and Duncan stuff are definitely cool, but the 81 will forever be a part of my favorite tones.
Thats a sweet finish. The ONLY thing I'd change is that goddamn white logo. If that was a raised black, kinda like the way LTD and ESP does, that'd have been perfect.
As always nice video even the setup, wanted to ask have you ever used the d-tuna, I was actually thinking of installing one seems cool and saves a lot of time for drop tunes on a flojd rose guitar
Thanks dude! I haven't used that specific detuner. I'm new to detuning technology, and you can see me try it out in an awesome way in one of my recent videos where I'm showing off the Fender Tone Master Pro!
@@RobArnoldWorld thanks man will definitely have a look at it, still debating whether to get a flojdrose guitar or a fixed bridge. I like both honestly, haven't mastered the flojd maintenance and setup side.
so I wanted this, but I only had X-Series money. So I bought the X-Series Soloist in the Green, and put all the American Series Hardware/iPickups in it. WIth the Exception of the Bridge, for that I swapped it for the Gotoh FR-style bridge. all in it was $950. How much is this thing?
So I know you are new to Jacksons, but have you noticed any issues with the steel screws eating up the threads on the softer metals? I’m not meteorological expert, but I’m curious how they hold up. Steel is a much harder metal than the other components.
Which parts are you talking about specifically? Regardless, these guitars are all still brand new, and so there hasn't been enough hours put into them for any significant metal on metal friction to have occurred. But lemme know more about what you mean, and I'll try and take note!
@@RobArnoldWorld So the chrome pieces you mentioned are stainless steel. The other parts in black paint I am pretty sure is a much softer metal. I wonder how the threads on the softer metal hold up to the much harder steel. Another person answered “time will tell”. I guess we will all eventually find out. I do love the look of the two tone color. I just hope they don’t wear too fast.
Are you still an esp artist also i like the evertune videos I'll watch it again next year when I set up my solar v with ghs 11-50 strings for drop c after seeing Morgan from kittie at louder than life i decided to get one but of course cant have just one
What do you think about their necks vs. esp or ltd necks? I have 6-7 esp, ltd, and Edwards guitars, but my girlfriend just got me a Mij 90's soloist in Tokyo last week. It's also satin, which I've never liked and do now, and omg, I can fly with that neck. I might downsize and pick up another Jacskon; I feel like I'm cheating on my esps.
Haha I'm cheating too! But it's all good. Right now I'm in love with this new soloist, and I'm playing it every day! Everything about it feels great! 🎸
Okay, I’ve watched a ton of your videos and use the same string gauge, except a 14 instead of 13. How/why did you land on your string gauge preference? Would love to know, cheers!
Yessir! Simple answer is that Chimaira's first string endorsement was from Dean Markley, and they sent us a bunch of their medium Blue Steel packs, which were 11-52's and contained all the exact gauges I still use to this day. But anyway, we fell in love with those Blue Steels in those gauges, and used them for years until our deal with Dean Markley came to an end. And now, no matter what brand I'm playing, I still prefer those gauges as they're what I'm used to, and most comfortable playing.
@@RobArnoldWorldawesome, thank you a bunch! I liked you before, but taking the time to respond to little old me makes you cooler than the cool side of the pillow. 🤘🏼
if u screw the backside screws IN you RAISE the tremolo up and forward ...if you release the springs in the back (screw out) ,you LOWER the tremolo ,back and down...right ..? and btw ,isnt it easier just to use a drop tuner instead and set it to C tuning rather than change it all . Then you can still use the guitar in all drop tunings and E standart ? thx :-)
No it's actually the opposite of what you described. Tightening the screws pulls the bridge downward in the back. And sure, using a drop tuner would certainly make things easier if you'd prefer to go that route!🎸
and also..Dont cut the eyes on the string end...run them thru the tuner holes at the headstock tuners instead, and cut the string length at the back into the tremolo, then you avoid the annoying sharp cut of strings at the head tuners when you have rolled them . :-) And if you slide in a backplate under the tremolo when adding new string, you dont have to weightforce with the hand to lift the tremolo :-)
I stopped using Floyds because I could not ever set them up properly. I tried a bunch of times, but it always seemed when I thought they were perfect, I'd wake up the next morning or a few days later and a string would be snapped.
YESSIR!!!. I'VE BEEN UP ALL NIGHT SCARED TO DEATH OF MY NEW SCHECTER.. IM GOING FROM E STANDARD TO DROP C. STRINGS ARE ON AND I'VE BEEN STRECHING JAMMING TO ROB ARNOLD!. 🎸🤘 ROCK ON 🎸🤘 KICK ASS-ASSIN NEW PATREON MEMBER - JoeTayMetal

@@doctoribanez naw they're stainless sir. You can get titanium tho, which I've actually done to my Floyd.
So a question I posted separately I’ll ask here. Does the Stainless steel mess up the treads on the softer metals on the other Floyd components?

Nothing wrong with that!
Just got a used Carvin DC400 with a Floyd trem for 1k a month or so (not sure which FR it has but it's good) and it's made me realize I'm willing to deal with FR trems again after only using fixed bridge guitars. Even made a JP60 with a floating trem into a fixed bridge with a wooden block
So these Jacksons, besides being sleek beasts with EMGs, really interest me. Will definitely order one sometime in the future
Gonna setup my Carvin the next time with your vid Rob, though keeping it in standard
Love the videos Rob as always man! keep up the good work, IMHO you deserve a lot more likes and love for all the work you put in to these videos man
I appreciate that bro!👊 And we'll get there... slowly but surely!💪
I started watching and the video had 77 likes (mine being the 77th) and now by the end of the video you're up and over 100 :) ASLO what you should do is get the DVD Digitized and have it as a perk for people joining your patreon page. Honestly I'm not even good at guitar but watching your videos I learn a lot of neat stuff
I just bought one of these in all black. What a dream guitar! 🤘🏼
Nice!
Rob is the man! If any of you play evertunes please check out his tutorials on them. Because of rob I don’t even take my guitars into the shop anymore. Thanks Rob! 🙌
Hey I appreciate that big time bro!👊
Thanks Rob! I’ve played hardtails all my life, but I got a Jackson Dinky with a FR 1000 last year and I love it. I’ve been dreading a string change, but this vid really makes it seem less intimidating. Those new soloists are looking pretty damn 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome dude! Happy to help, and thanks for tuning in!🎸
The red springs from fu-tone are a top tier 🫡
Man your video is very enjoyable
👊
That’s lovely. I love that military green. Jackson is my second favourite guitar company behind ESP/LTD
You’re the man Rob!
👊
the Olive is my second fav color thus far. I like the White first, the new Orange is nice as well. Just sucks the way Matte finish's wear to a shine.
Very cool. Been thinking of getting this Jackson with the EMGs.
Awesome dude! Congrats on the axe! I love my '87 Mirage too! 🎸
Hell ya man thanks for the reply! Long time fan!

Looking forward to the next vid my man
Awesome dude! Congrats on the new Dean! Thanks for tuning in and feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
Hi there do you have a video to solve a tuning problem when I press 12 fret the tuning is sharper, but when I moving a screw on a saddle to fix it ...the open string goes out of tune. Please help, maybe someone have that problem? Thanks
Yessir! Give this a try: th-cam.com/video/nDgIHibIE0M/w-d-xo.html
Awesome video dude. Learned a lot
Happy to hear it! 👊
Great video, love that you got into the nuts and bolts. thanks, enjoy your vids, and I'm same, i like the lockable whammy.
Cheers and thanks bro!🎸
Great information here! Thanks bro!🎸
I just got one of these bad boys in black with the Hipshot bridge..first ever soloist with a hard tail I’m hearing. Anyway, I’m not really a six string guy, but this has so many features that checked every box for me I had to do it. It’s a really really well-made guitar
Congrats! 🎸
Finally getting around to watching this! May end up trading in a few of my guitars that I don't really play to pick one of these up.
Let us know Jake!🎸
@RobArnoldWorld will do! And I'll take some pictures or something so you can show your son!
Oh yeah? You gonna go with Lambo Orange?@@Samuraijake93
@@RobArnoldWorld yeah! I'm gonna pick it up this coming weekend.
String Joy is all I play now (bass). They are next level.
I’m abt 50:50 Stringjoy & D’addario at this point, both incredible strings. Even Ernie Balls have gotten a lot better in the last decade or so
Hi Rob really like your informative shows .
Cool! Iron out?
@@RobArnoldWorld Well I cannot seem to get my high-e string to ring clear.
I switched to 8-38 and even got some set up tips from Paul Gilbert himself on how to make them work.
Paul said “High action, enough to grip the strings at the first frets. Might have to relax the truss”…
I’m starting to think it’s just the gauge of strings, but how come so many legends of the past and even today swear by them?
@@RobArnoldWorld That’s really fn cool to take some time out and explain that to me thanks brother!
You got it bro! Best of luck!🎸@@8KilgoreTrout4
Very cool, made me wanna change my strings on my new axe.
Any tutorial on how to use the whammy bar?
No specific whammy bar videos, but that's a great idea!
Awesome video, thanks!
I traded my FR. Half because of the work involved, and half because I couldn't get ot to feel right. The only other double locking trem I played could dump all the string tension, wanted that in mine, and never figured it out.
Awesome vid Rob! can I ask what's your action for drop C? how many mm's at the low and high strings on the 12th fret?
Thanks dude! I don't do any real measurements. I just eyeball it and feel it out, and I like a nice low action. 🎸
I just recently bought an ‘89 Charvel Fusion Deluxe and bought a brand new Schaller Floyd for it and ordered this exact whammy bar from Floyd Rose and swapped them out because I prefer the slip in style lol. All these parts are interchangeable so do whatever you like!
Hahaha hey, to each their own!🎸
I build guitars and every day is potentially alearning process! Always looking to sharpen up my skills. Keep rocking my much love from the 219
Hey thanks for tuning in man!🎸
Great video. What's the action on your high and low E strings?
Thanks bro! I don't have any physical measurements or anything, but I always like a nice low action across the board.
That was smooth 👌🏻
That's a bad ass look on that guitar od green and black. I was looking them up and they cost a little much for me but they are very nice
They need to make this in an 8 string with a fixed bridge 😍
I got a Japan made Jackson Soloist, it's a shredder and it though me how to properly setup a guitar. I recommend everyone having atleast one floyd rose in the tool chest.
Thanks for the video
Rob loved this video. Just wanna ask is there any chance of another EYL sometime soon please.
Thanks Darren! Yessir- there will be another EYL!
what a beautiful looking guitar! love the colour so much! If only i could afford a 2K guitar lol
i think 17:35 should be well tight as it loosen-up overtime, great video enjoyed watching
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind!

I appreciate you tuning in!🎸
I happen to love the color amd its satin thats a plus. Pea Soup green. Its a mean green axe machine....lol.
Pea soup green! Well said.
Great video, greetings from Spain.
Cheers to Spain!🤘
I dig the color. I have a crappy Harley benton that i took apart and kind of poorly painted like that lol
I find this video strangely relaxing 😅
Another great video 📹 🎸🤘🍺🫡

Love the black hardtail jackson,im kickin myself in the ass, almost got a cheap jackson before i got my ibanez rgra 6,the hell w the rude comments rob do what you want
Aye... Well I'm sure that Ibanez is still sweet.🎸 And as for rude and ignorant comments, I tend to brush them off. Haters are always gonna hate. 💪
@@RobArnoldWorld oh yeah, bought it in 2021 and still goin strong
i prefer the old screw on arms on the floyds too, i have a couple push ins, just not the same, i dont use the trems a lot
Yeah, man. I love watching this shit.
I sense you are like me Rob. I’m major OCD about keeping my guitars clean. I see some people whose guitars are very dirty and it drives me crazy. lol. To each his own I guess.
100%! 🎸
Jackson is putting out nice stuff! Have you tried the Charvel stuff? I just picked up a Charvel So Cal Pro Mod. Always liked the modded Strat look. Plus getting my hands on a LTD is impossible right now. First Floyd but i got your videos to help!
Never tried a Charvel! If one were to fall into my lap though, I'd certainly give it a go! 🎸 Thanks for tuning in!
maintenance with Floyds sucks but I keep buying them for some reason
Hey Rob, Do you usually leave your guitars out in a rack/stand, or do you put them away in a case each night?
As you can see behind me, I always have about 8 guitars out in rotation, depending on certain situations and projects I'm working on. But the rest of my collection remains cased up at all times!🎸
@@RobArnoldWorld Thanks for the reply! I always wondered how professionals kept their axes when not in use. Thanks for the excellent videos.
Hey thanks for tuning in!@@jamesstanding
Dude! Way yeeeeeeesss!! 👍
Do you know if the neck rises if you add more springs Rob ?
I would say it does not!
If you're not interested in doing whammy bar tricks and stuff, then I recommend going the fixed bridge route. It's FAR less maintenance! @@kenman91
so I wanted this, but I only had X-Series money.
So I bought the X-Series Soloist in the Green, and put all the American Series Hardware/iPickups in it. WIth the Exception of the Bridge, for that I swapped it for the Gotoh FR-style bridge.
all in it was $950.
How much is this thing?
Sounds like good deal and a cool project! This guitar is around $2600 new. sweetwater.sjv.io/JacksonSoloistSL2MG
20 wound is so good for drop C!
Huh, why such a thick G string for only a whole step down
Agreed!
You should throw a brass block in there as well. You won't be disappointed.
Hit up Taylor Roberts possibly about Stringjoy. Plays for Taproot and is working with them. Good dude.
Yep I agree man. They look great, and time will tell how they age!@@2974dc
What kind of drumstick display shelf rack thing is that?? I have been looking for a way to display some sticks of my own

Are you still an esp artist also i like the evertune videos I'll watch it again next year when I set up my solar v with ghs 11-50 strings for drop c after seeing Morgan from kittie at louder than life i decided to get one but of course cant have just one
Yes!
That guitar is so sick
Titanium Floyd hardware, I personally find the Floyd licensed made in Germany pro the most comfortable for chugging
@@Grizdom 👊
if u screw the backside screws IN you RAISE the tremolo up and forward ...if you release the springs in the back (screw out) ,you LOWER the tremolo ,back and down...right ..? and btw ,isnt it easier just to use a drop tuner instead and set it to C tuning rather than change it all . Then you can still use the guitar in all drop tunings and E standart ? thx :-)
No it's actually the opposite of what you described. Tightening the screws pulls the bridge downward in the back.
And sure, using a drop tuner would certainly make things easier if you'd prefer to go that route!🎸
@@RobArnoldWorld ok thx alot ;)
and also..Dont cut the eyes on the string end...run them thru the tuner holes at the headstock tuners instead, and cut the string length at the back into the tremolo, then you avoid the annoying sharp cut of strings at the head tuners when you have rolled them . :-) And if you slide in a backplate under the tremolo when adding new string, you dont have to weightforce with the hand to lift the tremolo :-)
Based on the cmts and likes you are not alone on guys/gals who like to watch videos this :)
I think you're right, and I'm grateful!🎸
I stopped using Floyds because I could not ever set them up properly. I tried a bunch of times, but it always seemed when I thought they were perfect, I'd wake up the next morning or a few days later and a string would be snapped.
