Of all the videos we always make two versions (one in English and one in Spanish). Where we put both languages together is in the strings due to lack of time.
Despite English not being your native language you've managed to pull off the best NMM video I've seen to date. This is purely because the information you're getting across makes a lot of sense. You have a more relaxed and rule free style of painting that I really love, and doesn't take away from the end result at all (on the contrary your work is some of the best in the world). Amazing video man!
Thank you very much! Yes, every day I try to improve with English but there may be some difficulties precisely because it is not my native language. Even so, I always try to express to you my way of painting and how I conceive this process. I'm glad to know that these tutorials and have helped you to learn.
Hey Sergio! Thanks for sharing your workflow, techniques and approach with us! Hope your family is doing well in these crazy times of pandemic. Best wishes and keep up the incredibly inspiring work!
@@Sergiocalvominiatures Let us know if you would come do one in Rio de Janeiro! (I know our country's PR isn't at its best right now, but... maybe one day!)
Me: Damn it look amazing! Sergio: So, we just finish to sketch the mini, time to work! :,D Awesome video, awesome jovial dude, awesome painting !! Thank youuu :D
Thanks for the tutorial and sharing your beautiful work! The difficult part for me is knowing where to paint the light and dark areas and being consistent with the light source across the entire model.
Yeah, it's one of the hardest parts you've got to face. In many of my tutorials I explain how you have to place the light, and above all, the importance of volume in the miniature. :P
This is amazing! I love how you show every step, and explain. Helped me understand the concept. I follow you on Instagram and would never have thought this was how you paint :)
hello! thank you so much for the comment and for following me on Instagram! Yes, I do full tutorials through the Patreon page www.patreon.com/sergiocalvominiatures
I think I get the sketching of light. First you mixed the brown violet with the Japanese uniform X3, then you added the German yellow. I then saw you added just a little more of the brown violet to it in order to de saturate it. Then after the sketch you add a little more of the German yellow in order to add saturation then go over your sketch to brighten it. Hopefully I understood that right
Yes, usually at the end of the project (in this project for example there were five videos if I remember correctly) appears what is the result of the thumbnail (rotating on a base through the video itself). Now we have also changed the format and it appears both at the beginning and at the end of the project.
Sorry, I am new here... What is the "capibase" exactly? Is it the name of your overall style? Is it the name you give to the consistency of your paint?
It's a joke. A lot of people call me "Capi" for Captain America. And as I paint with base layers they have added the word "capi" to layer (which in Spanish is "Base") and hence the word "capibase".
You basically free handed 100% of all of those highlights. Like wow, I couldn't dream up a more difficult approach to this. Not necessarily anything wrong with your method, but I feel you needed to explain why you would choose some of those locations to highlight. It looked 100% random to me and that is literally the most difficult thing I can think of.
Hi Calvin! This isn't the first video we've dealt with NMM. You have more video where we started with simpler things and explained in a more detailed way how to do it step by step. For this figure I already said that it was going to be very complicated and that's why I started to explain simpler examples so that you could practice before. ;)
What are the Capi Bases you keep mentioning? I plan to join Patreon at the beginning of February. Sorry but I dont want to have to pay today and again in a couple days. Do you use mainly Vallejo paints?
I tried hard to follow this on my belakor model. I did a horrible job and can’t seem to do nmm. And I am not new to painting minis. I give up. I just cant get it to look correct. Super frustrating. It’s times like this where I feel like giving up painting minis entirely.
I always try to bring you free material to the channel but where you can really find tutorials practically every week is at ; www.patreon.com/sergiocalvominiatures
Hello! It's a play on words with my nickname (capi) and base (layer in Spanish). As basic videos you have Painting With Vanessa to start (many of them we put them publicly)
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. I would like to see how you used your airbrush to blend the colours but I cannot seem to find that video. Could you please provide the link to that one? Thank you again.
I'm trying really hard to believe in capivases, but I don't know what that means. I really appreciate you doing videos in English, but there are just some words that I cant understand, even hearing them multiple times in context. Can anyone tell me what a capivases is? I think the last part is actualy "bases" but I still have no idea. (Also it would help if you had more light on your subjects)
Hello! Capibases is the name my students gave to my painting. It is the word "Capi" for Captain America (they said I looked like him) and the word base (layer). It's a play on words, nothing more.
@@Sergiocalvominiatures This is really confusing for a tutorial video. I still don't understand what you are getting at? A Captain America base? Are you trying to say that you can paint with a thicker base coat, and this is your style? It also sounds like Capi-Vase (Spanish pronunciation of 'b') which makes it even more confusing. Imagine if I were making a tutorial in Spanish and used English slang like "Dog and Bone".
@@BarringtonDailey I tell you more simply; I use paint with a drop of water. They call this way of painting with very little water "capibases". ;) That's it. The long explanation: It's a play on words in Spanish not in English so I was trying to explain it in both languages... But, in all languages it will always be the same; a drop of water in the paint, you mix it and you paint. ^^
I love how you paint. I would love to join your patreon to learn more from you. I am thinking to only focus on hand brushing instead of airbrush. Do you focus more on hand brush or air brushing?
I always use both tools. I usually start with the brush for the base layers and when the miniature is at 80% I start with the airbrush and then I use the brush for the final touches.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to present this in English. Much appreciated! Your work is incredible.
