I like to give Dectomax as well as Cylence. If I had a goat or sheep with infestations on their legs, I would be inclined to apply the medication there. The Dectomax is an injectable medication that works systematically so the lice die when they suck the blood.
In regard to human consumption: According to the product label for Cylence, there is no specific withdrawal period specified for milk consumption after treatment. However, the label does indicate that the milk from treated animals should not be used for human consumption if it is found to be contaminated with Cylence residue above the established maximum residue limit (MRL). So, it’s vague at best. I personally would not advise application of Cylence to first trimester does. There isn’t a lot of supportive evidence for this but I try not to administer any chemicals to pregnant livestock during the first trimester unless absolutely necessary. Even “safe” medications such as antibiotics have some anecdotal evidence showing complications in regard to first trimester administration.
@@LinessaFarms I looked it up and Ultra Boss says no milk withdrawal. I'll likely go with that one. I have been using Python dust but it's a nightmare to not get plastered with it. I don't see lice often but taking precaution this year since its been a warm winter. Thanks for the info!
Do you delute your product first or use straight from the container ??all the CYLENCE says to add it to gallon of water. like one oz to a gal. what are you using that is different. I can't seem to find it. not even on amazon. Help.. it says use as a spray or soak or drence or pour... what do I look for that would be different ?? Like yours..Help, I really need a reply, much appreciated..
This is what we use. No, it is not diluted. We apply 5ml from the back of the head to the base of the tail for any juvenile sheep or goat and 10ml for adults. Lice is normally visible along the spine. Mange usually presents with hair loss and scratching around the eyes, ears, or the backs of the legs. You will often see dry scaly skin in these areas and they will sometimes chew the hair off the backs of the front legs if it is in that area.
So what if the goat chews or licks at the area? Is it safe? I just found out my 8 year old doe has lice really bad, most likely her whole life- And the rest of my herd has a mild case. I hqve kids and a pregnant doe and really dont want anything bad to happen to them.
So long as you apply the medication down the back, it is difficult for them to get at it. We have not seen many cases of this happening. The medication has a strong alcohol base as well that should prevent the desire. I have used Dectomax as well as Cylence on both kids and pregnant animals with no issues for many years. The consequences of not treating them would more than likely be worse than treatment. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email us. Our contact information is available on our website. If they have mange (which it sounds like) you will want to apply the Cylence to a rag and then wipe the effected areas. We usually have to follow up with a second shot of Dectomax as well. Mange is a tough one to kill.
Is there a reason someone shouldn treat their goats if they indeed have lice? My landlord said her goats have lice, but that she doesn’t treat for it bc it’s species specific😐. This seems really wrong to me. Please help!
Appreciate this content. It helps me to see what others are doing to care for their goats.

@@LinessaFarms do you use the same method on sheep? You may have done a video on it and I just didn't find yet.
Perfect timing yet again. Just found an infestation in our herd. Thanks for always being on the ball Tim!
Thanks, Kate! Best of luck to you!
@@LinessaFarms Do you also spray the stalls where the sheep and goats are housed when you’re treating them for lice?
Thx.
Thank you, Jeanette. 😬
Very good thank you

Does using the cylence differ if the goat has lice on its legs or under the arm pit for example and would you administer it differently?

The Cylence container recommends 1cc per 25 lbs. Is it safe to use the 5-10 ml per goat? We have Nigerian Dwarfs.
Yes. We use 5ml on the dwarves.
@@LinessaFarms 5 for baby Nigerians and 10 for adult Nigerian Dwarf goats?
If they are really small, I would probably use 5 for adults and 2.5 for babies.
Thank you what about pregnant goat moms or I have 4 day old baby kid .can I use this on them
I have ultra boss is dosage the same??
You should be able to use it in the same way. I am not familiar with the dosage. You will have to review the product information.
What about lactating or bred does?

How do you diagnose mange or mites? New Goat owner here just wanting to do the best.

What if my baby goats have bugs around their private parts, Would putting the medication on their spine still work for that?

How about ivermectin pour on? Can I use on kids? Do you know how much. Looks like 1cc for 20 pounds
You can use ivermectin pour on for goats (not sheep). I have not personally used this and do not have information for you about the dosage. Sorry.
Do you treat their bedding area?
You can treat the bedding area with diatomaceous earth and barn lime.
Could you please send me the spelling of that product for the lice
Cylence is the medication we use for lice and mange.
Can you put that on pregnant goats?
I personally would advise using ultraboss for pregnant ewes and does. If you choose to use Cylence, avoid doing so during the first trimester.
@LinessaFarms thankyou for taking the time to answer back! All your video's are appreciated!
What about Permethrin 10? Can I use that?
Yes.
Are those meds safe for pregnant ewes?
How often is the re dose of dectomax? I gave it 2 weeks ago to my buck and his mange seems to be the if not spreading up his legs
Did you treat him with any kind of topical medication such as cyclence as well?

Lice can kill a goat. Lice are species specific in almost all cases but I don’t see how that justifies not treating an animal that is sick.
I’ve been lucky but I keep chickens away from goats and never in chickens pen
Do they get lice from chickens?
They can really easy
So I just don’t take a chance anymore with them being in chicken pen
Free range is ok together
I was just reading goat lice is species specific to goats and sheep. Where did you see they can get them from chickens?
Silence?
Edit: I'm blind as a bat and watch this on my cell, so I am going by what I'm hearing. 😅
I’m half deaf so the two of us would make quite a pair. Yes. It’s called Cylence. You can get it online at most veterinary supply houses.
