😲 The zoo sure has changed a LOT from the 1960's. (Original as best I can recall was made from scrap wood and wire fencing. 😊)

Back in the 70's, some dude took his motorcycle into the wadding fountain/pool with us kids still in there.

we lived catty corner from Parnell School for girls. north east corner Jenkins and Scott. when my parents sold the house my kids had to get rid of there guinne pigs the chool had sold the property to city of Whittier , they had just begun there zoo. so there pigs went to Parnell park , probably one of the first animals. thanks for the update.Donna.

Do you remember more? I grew up in unincorporated S. Whittier and have only very vague memories of the two parks mom would drive us to. One had a rocketship you could climb up and the other had a Storybook Zoo with a Hickory Dickory Dock clock with mice. I think there was also a donkey, but I was pretty young (and the young think nothing is ever going to change so they didn't take note of details.) 😟

This looks beautiful! Can't wait to see it completed. I don't live in Whittier anymore, but maybe we'll see it completed in a video. This is great! Used to live right near Parnell Park. (from Sandi Robinson/Paquet)

How soon??? It's light years ahead of what was a homeless encampment! Thanks for giving us hope.

Is there any recognition of all the little girls who grew up at Parnell School? Any mention of the horses, ducks, chickens, barn and local horseshows we Parnell Girls were a part of?
what about Miss Elizabeth Yoder, who had a vision for all the possibilities that all we girls had in our futures. Mr. Yoder believed in the intelligence, capabilities and potential within all girls. Don't forget Parnell School and all that meant to us.

No more indoor space for events? Otherwise this looks great.
