  • Today’s video shines a light on three beloved, local restaurants here in Whittier, California. These three restaurants are family owned and operated and have been in business for 170 years combined. Whittier locals love these three places and I thought it would be fun to visit and learn a bit more about these three legendary restaurants.

Jenny’s is a special place to me. I used to go there with my grandfather when I was a kid. We used to park in the back and just walk in the back door, through the kitchen. Jenny would always welcome us by name and grab a biscuit off the baking sheet and hand it to me. Great memories. I still make a point to have breakfast there when I can make it over there. Chile Verde Omelette is my go to.

I moved my family to Central Virginia back in 93' and one of the things i miss the absolute most is the charbroiled burger. I had my very first one as a young lad at Norms on Whittier and Ocean View. I live vicariously through your videos brother. One day when I come back, I want to spend the day with you, breakfast, lunch and dinner. My treat. :-) I do want to add that one of the biggest reason I enjoy your videos is that they aren't just about the food, you include the history of these places as well as the surrounding area. Thank you for that! Be well brother and hopefully we can share a meal together soon.

I am so glad you went into the history of the Greenleaf Cafe and how Ramiro went from dishwasher to waiter to restaurant owner. He would wait on my grandparents back in the day when it was the Deli Express. He was always so nice and warm to my to my grandparents. I am glad he's still running a successful business. Jack's was always a good spot as well. The women who used to ring you up would always give me candy.

Born at Presbyterian hospital in ‘59 but left Whittier in ‘72. My fondest memories are going to Farmer Del’s restaurant ( somewhere near Washington & Lambert-I think ) on my father’s payday. Remember the check for five of us was $6-7.00.

Happy to see you spotlight Jenny's Cafe. I used to eat breakfast there almost every morning, back when Jenny was there every day. She was a sweetheart. Kinda drifted away over the years as life changed my habits, but it is great to know a quality small shop can keep it going for 50 years. I'm going to make it a point to get over there real soon. Thanks.

I am glad that you finally tried Jenny's wet green chile burrito. I had messaged you about trying it after your green burritos episode, after you had mentioned that you loved them with when served with chips! I also love their menudo and chilequiles. Jose has been a great friend for a good number of years. I have eaten there from almost the beginning, having lunch while working at Sears across the street from 1973 to 1990, before it was demolished some years afterward. Great place!

*Jenny's* *Country* *Kitchen* was one of my favourite 'haunts' in the early 90's . The atmosphere was delightful -- it reminded me of the classic coffee shop ; more smoke than a poolhall ! Dynamite ! Excellent breakfast , outstanding coffee , and quite affordable .
It's too bad that only one - of - three *Jack's* remains . I frequented the one nearest my home ; the one on Whittier Blvd. between Gretna and Palm .
