I think on the pivot it might take away from the design. Just my 2 cents trying to visualize it. Unless you can have it milled into the pivot, not lasered on.
It’s not a good looking knife. It’s looks like someone who hasn’t really designed knives designed a knife. Which is what it is. Love his channel but this isn’t for me at all. As someone who’s owned thousands of knives and made about as many I would say Divo knives are by far the best looking of youtuber knife designers. I would say divo knives has an eye for the way a design should flow and also has design language unique to their vision. I get it though it’s reate oem and someone popular on social media made it so it will sell.
The ONLY thing i could not like about the knife is maybe it could be a deeper carey. I prefer deeper carey so thats my preference, but other than that i love all the design ideas, and with Reate, you know the fit will be amazing.
That ting is amazing! Really excited for this knife, the hollow ground sheep foot blade is perfection. My only Reate made knife is my Yeager v3 which takes multiple shakes and is really gritty on the close even after months of break in which I hate. Fingers crossed this one comes out smoother.
Pretty cool knife, the buckshot (or coral as he’s calling it) pattern is a nice touch. Side by side I think it would be a tough choice for me between this and your Tall Boy TBH 🤷♀️ I must disagree with the blade steel choice not being stainless. I think S90v would been a better choice for most consumers than K390 as far as premium steels go. The price point seems good. Thanks, Kev

That thing sounds amazing and looks like it has all the little details and features that most knife enthusiasts want for EDC. I just can't get over the aesthetic of it, though. IMO, it looks like someone took the blade from a random Kansept and stuck it on the frame from some random Kubey 😬
Ha, that's a funny way to describe it. Yeah, I dunno, it's lacking cohesion. The handle and blade don't really feel like they were made for each other. The handle doesn't look like anything at all, and I'm not sold on that particular texture. Definitely utilitarian, but not exciting and missing those nice design touches you get out of other high end Reate knives like Berg or SBD.

@@EugeneSmedlund The price tag has a lot to do with the manufacturer used. Reate is an absolute top tier premium Chinese manufacturer. You're not just paying for materials with them, you're paying for the execution, the consistency, and some of the manufacturing and hand finishing that other Chinese OEMs don't even offer. Any titanium + premium steel knife from them is gonna start around $300 or so, even if the Kubey or Kansept or Miguron equivalent would come in at half that. If you buy based on materials and are less concerned with finishing work, action, tolerances, grinds, etc., then Reate is not gonna feel worth it, and that's totally fine.
1:46 so you’re wrong. that is similar to a compound grind on the cutting edge but it’s along the spine instead. the average knife tries to maintain the thickness all the way to the tip of the blade for added strength or they do a distil taper so that it’s thin near the tip and thicker near the handle. well with a distil taper it’s difficult to keep the same thickness behind the cutting edge. with a robust tip you sacrifice a level of slicing ability so this design 1:40 is a nice compromise.
@@LeftyEDC well first off you said you’re “not the biggest fan of knives that have this sort of inward swoops and stuff, but usually they are clip points”… and i took that to mean that you don’t like a shaped spine or clip points…. because that’s what you said. and i’m here to correct you because you LOVE “swoops and stuff”. like a clip point allows you to have an upswept tip which is still pointy. they are cool! a harpoon tip can be better than any fuller because if it’s done right it makes a larger hole for the rest of the blade to follow through so the entire blade has less drag for stabbing. plus having swoops and stuff can give you a better purchase in hand and possibly more comfort and leverage. i think the spine of a blade is one of the most overlooked design opportunities…. something else i noticed you’re wrong about 21:50 you LOVE larger blades.

I like to buy knives made by knife guys like you Kev I've got almost all your knives and I still EDC them everyday same with KC I'm waiting on the microjet the smaller version of the Jetstream I wasn't that stoked on the Jetstream but I still bought it, so I think the microjet with be perfect size. When American knife guys make knives I consider their designs American made and the Chinese OEM just basically clones your idea and design into fruition there for it's an American made design that's the closest to saying American made knife it all starts with an Idea. @One-edc it's not that they just don't care about 10% of people or more accurately 9.3% to 18.1% then people like myself making up more margin right handed but very ambidextrous that keeps other things in right pocket lol.
