7:59 is my favorite part. 😂 You are really a breathe of fresh air to the TH-cam filmmaking community. You actually show how to use the lights in such an easy and understandable manner. It’s been awesome watching your channel grow over the last year! Thanks for all the hard work you put in! Much love from Nashville, Tennessee!
Would love to see you using some of the Zhiyun line of products and share your thoughts. I'm blown away by the size of these and led mat lights being readily available. The portability with power is truly impressive in this Era.
I think many folks have to realize when using these smaller and powerful lights is that you NEED to diffuse it. I think most beginner folks will think they will get amazing lighting from these from the get go. I like that you showed a simple and cheap solution like using a bounce to get the soft effect or else you would need a giant soft box with depth. Not enough people are talking about this when it comes to lighting.
Dang you're right man. Ive been doing this for a while so I forget the perspective of a newer shooter a lot. I'll try to remember to talk about that next time!
Not to be a nerd - but the shot at 2:20 is GORGEOUS!!! Like - that is my JAM!!! It's the sort of insert I would expect from a Chris Nolan film or something. (The gritty bathroom shot is also very well done.) Thanks for what you do, Cam! God bless!
@@cammackey I've been directing for 30 years and it's hard to stay creative all the time. Tech specs can be an inspiration as well, because you can control tech, unlike so many other aspects of a career. Your output is amazing, really looking forward to seeing more narrative and docu work.
That Bowen mount adapter kicks ass! I just pre-ordered the X60RGB Pro kit through B&H. I do wish you'd start putting up B&H affiliate links so I can ensure you get a kickback, Cam.
Cool video thanks ! If the Zhiyun molus x60 RGB battery dies , can it keep working at full brightness , by plugging in a simple 10000 mA USB-C powerbank that is not PD ? Also can you attach it to steel surfaces magnetically ?
Hi Cam, I liked the video a lot, as always. The only thing I would wish for is that you put the camera settings in the shot when demonstrating the light. Because I kind of struggle with getting a perception of how bright the light really is. E.g. if the bathroom scene was shot at ISO 1000, f2.8, it's easier to get a feeling for the brightness, rather than just seeing the frame.
Solid fair point brutha. For some of the shots I did say the settings but cut it out cause I felt it wasnt important.. but I guess it was haha. For the bathroom scene I believe I was at ISO800 T2.8 1/50th shutter on the FX3
Hey thanks, do you find there is a little play/wobble between the battery and the light when attached? there is with mine, just wondering if its normal. Also would you go for the X60 or X60RGB? Its a tough choice, is the RGB version as bright?
How do you get your grain to show up in your videos? When I add grain, TH-cam compression turns it into pixelated artifacting. Make a video on export settings for youtube! please and thank you :)
Okay, so how did you get the look for the shot at 3:02? Obviously those were in-camera settings. Or, was that a grade that you put on after? Helppppp meeee!?! lol thank you for this video. I think I might snag this little, powerful light. I have the molus x100 and I love it!
So I did use my luts! But I didnt do anything crazy to the grade, My white balance was set to 4200K which helps get more of the blue look in camera.. plus the light I used overhead, was pushed toward the blue look, then the warm light from the other light.. thats it. It all comes down to lighting. Color grading can only do so much.
That’s chromatic aberration from the lenses. It’s funny, everyone b****es about lenses having chromatic aberration.. but then they stack on cheap filters and halation anyways haha.
Awesome video as always Cam! Two questions, quite important ones. I'm keen to get one as I do a lot of corporate work. 1. Is the light noisy? And if so is it a lot for talking pieces? 2. I love using domes, does it put a lot of strain on the mount or locking mechanism? I know some smaller lights locking mechanism don't hold well for domes. Would love to know. Keep up the great work as always Cam. Your videos always inspire me to do better.
1. In a warm room at full power, the fans do quick on. If it’s super close to talent then you’d might hear it but I think standard noise cancellation in post would kill it. But honestly for stuff like that.. you’re better off with a proper bigger light. Cause say if the interview goes on longer than an hour.. you’re going to need mroe battery. So better to get a proper plug in light. If it’s short interviews tho, you’ll be fine. But again 60w vs 300/500w.. different tools. 2. The bowens adapter gets mounted to the stand, not the light. So the light stand is holding on to the lighting modifier more than the light. It’s like mounting a telephoto lens to the tripod and having the camera hand freely. Much safer.
Looks like a good addition to my setup though ;) Thanks. What lens type did you use in the first 15 sec? Really like the look. Must be anamorphic, right?
Hi Cam, great video. i've two major questions, first I would like to know your sincerely opinion in wich light would you buy between this and the SMALLRIG RC60B, second do you think this kind of lights are good for photography on a go? I always preferred continuous light instead of speed light, I understand speelights or flashes ar powerful and best to override natural light. Many thanks, all the best
This light. Its smaller. And RGB. And you can buy multiple batteries for it and swap them as you need. And these won’t key talent outdoors. Indoors they can. You’ll need a more powerful LED for something like that. Like a 600W LED through an umbrella will barely keep up with the sun
Completely different light. The M20C is a panel light while the X60 is a single source, meaning it can be modified and shaped better. Lot more power also.
I don't know man, I like the Neewer lights. The Neewer has an app that let's you use your camera on your phone, which you point at your light source, like the blue neon lite, and it automatically matches the color. It's insane.
@cammackey I saw that but does it allow you to use your camera to match a light source? The Neewer app can use your phones camera to match the color of other light sources, so you can match all your lights.
This is exactly why I was waiting a couple weeks to drop $1500 on some more lights because I heard something new was coming from them. This is exactly what I was hoping for. By chance do you know if the batteries on the x100 can be swapped with the x60? Thanks for the video. 👊
the x100 is basically useless when you just need a low power setting, 1% to 1% power is actually the same output. Did shoot low light outdoor even 1% is way too bright with a7s3. (photo and video).
If you need something less bright, theres other tools for that. But whats cool is you can utilize an umbrella or something to diffuse it more and itll cut down on the exposure even more
Your videos are great but can we please stop calling ADs reviews in these super tacky disclaimers like "obviously this is sponsored". Why would that be obvious when you are pretending it's a review?
A flashlight is also cheaper. Lol you do realize those are totally two different types of lights right.. that Yongnuo just looks like a rebranded smallrig light. Which is great, great lights. But this Zhiyun light is smaller than my iPhone…..
Hey, could you make an actual short film and use these lights or other lights as a bts product review? I know you mentioned that you want to tell a story with the lighting, so why not make a legit short story with an actual script and actors that the lighting supports? Just food for thought from a film student.
