I love how there is a Kermode video for any movie I ever think of. Thank you for being the spiritual successor of Ebert.

I could happily watch this film every day for the rest of my life and never grow bored of it!

I own the criterion Blu Ray, but I live in America so I can't see this in a theater :'(. I loved the great beauty, which is a great companion piece to la dolce Vita. But I wish more films like la dolce Vita were made today

I also own that Criterion copy but haven't seen it yet, it's been popping up in alot of essays and critiques lately & maybe this is another sign, lol. Been having a continuous "film fest" at home since the quarantine has affected us. Watching many movies each week. I'll try and put this one on ASAP.

The great beauty was interesting but paled in comparison to this classic.

There's a funny scene in "Divorce Italian Style" where an audience of Sicilian dirt farmers are watching a screening of "La Dolce Vita".

I think this film rather than 8 1/2 , as it pares away the faults of indulgence and fantasy and image association that Fellini is prone to indulge in if given reign.

although definitely ahead of its time, well shot and acted, among other things, Marcello's character has not aged well. comes off as a predator creeping on women, especially the young girl who you see at the end of the film

Literalists will have trouble with a lot of Fellini's work.

You say that about any era of film its a product if its time. I wouldnt be too harsh on it

Does this characterization offend you? His treatment of the young waitress is perhaps his most restrained treatment of a woman in the entire film.
