I saw the Wings Tour when this album came out. Incredible! There were still hoards of women screaming Paul's name like they did at the time of the Beatles. Bluebird is such a magical song. ✌
No, no, he's not "covering George Martin's Live & Let Die theme" - McCartney himself *wrote* the track as the title music for the film, arranged and recorded it with Wings, just as you hear it here, and got GM to *add* Bond-style orchestration. GM did a good job as always, but if you listen to the band version without orchestration it's all there already , complete in every structural detail. It's Paul's brilliant arrangement - with some added orchestral pzazz.
Great reactions to The Beatles. It's almost endless going through all of the songs from those four men from Liverpool. They aren't everybody's jam but you cannot deny how great their contribution to the entire world of music was. Most of their songs were great and you can listen to them over and over and never get tired of their sound.
Paul McCartney and Wings were phenomenal. I was always an ELP FREAK, but this band took talent to that upper level. Their pacing and change ups mid song kept all their songs interesting and awesome. Venus and Mars was great too. Red Rose Speedway was too good.
You do have a unique reaction style that I find to be truly special and wonderful. Your love of Paul really speaks to me. I was born in 1964 in Berkeley, California and my dad, who was and still is a living legend in the law was an early fan of The Beatles. Legend has it that I just reacted to them before I could walk or talk. I've been nuts for them and their post Beatles work ever since. It gives me such joy to see a youngster like you discover and truly love their stuff. Thank you for that. It means a lot to me.
I’m glad my video can bring some sort of comfort and good feeling to you. I try my best to stand out. It doesn’t always work but at least I try! Thank you for the kind words my friend
The guy whose head is right next to Paul's head on the album cover is guy called Kenny Lynch who toured with The Beatles in early 1963. They were all on the tour bus together with John and Paul writing a song at the back. Kenny said he was going back there to help them - give them a few tips. A few minutes later he came back to the front huffing and puffing, "They're useless. They haven't got a effing clue how to write a song!" They were writing From Me To You 😂
Also there in the photo are Clement Freud (the grandson of Sigmund Freud), a British poltician who was probably best known for his dog food commercials, world champion boxer John Conteh, chat show host Michael Parkinson and film stars James Coburn and Christopher Lee.
"Is that Denny?" - yes, Denny Laine, who co-founded two Rock Bands, the Moody Blues and Wings, and passed away last December at 79. He had hits in both bands, giving up The Moodies for the chance to play with a Beatle. RIP.
Hey Lee! New Years Eve 1984. When the clock hit midnight every rock radio station played Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five!! I'll never forget it. How cool is that? Radio history and The Goat Sir Paul McCartney!!!!🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹👍😎
Loved these! But if I'm not mistaken Paul did NOT "cover" George Martin's song. Paul (with assistance from Linda to some degree) wrote this song, and George Martin produced and arranged the orchestration. If I am right, I forgive you. :-) LOL. As for your journey with The Beatles, the sun breaking through at that moment was not lost on me - I thought it was a damn good sign of where you needed to go. And as I recall, you were at about 5K subscribers at the time, maybe less. Here we are, 8 months later, and you're over 30K! That is awesome. Yours is about the only reaction channel I watch on a regular basis, and certainly the only one I subscribed to on Patreon, and that is because I feel your true-to-yourself approach and can see the work you put in before and during the reaction.
In my early teens (mid 70's) my sister turned me on to the Beatles. Just afterwards Band on the Run came out and that was it for me. Hook, line and sinker. 1985 was my favorite song not only on this album but of all Paul solo songs. When we saw him at Wrigley Field in I think it was 2011 he played it. I had seen him 4 times before and he never played it so it was the ultimate when he did that.
1985 was the last song of the album on side 2. They added a tag of Band on the Run to conclude the album. Live and Let was released before the Band on the Run album, summer 1973, the theme from that year's James Bond Movie of the same title. after Linda died of cancer in 1998, when Paul went on tour they used to set up her old keyboard and everything, and light a candle that burned during the entire performance. Spring of 1973 My Love went to #1, actually saved Paul's career, [it was floundering] along with a TV special and the Live and Let Die Bond theme. You can hear Linda's vocals on all of these, a major ingredient to the sound of Wings. Denny Laine was an original founding Member of the Moody Blues, sang lead on their hit "Go Now."
Man it's right in the middle of it but I had to hard stop at your comment, I love music. Dude music defines my whole existence and it has for decades. But what a great heartfelt moment seriously.
Band on the Run was on heavy rotation in my cassette deck when I was in High School in the mid-70s. We used to cruise for hours listening to stuff like this, The Who, Edgar Winter and David Bowie.
I think so many fans just wanted Paul to stay a Beatle . Part of the reason he wasn’t always received well in the infancy of his solo career. He did what he wanted to and that’s commendable . You’re doing a great job. Thank you !
There are 3 Wings LP’s I ALWAYS listen to in their entirety : “Band On The Run” (1974), “Venus and Mars” (1975)… and my personal favorite “London Town” (1978) . Phenomenal job ! 🎸✌️✌️✌️
LEE, I LOVE how you do your reaction channel, and it IS different and REFRESHING compared to ALL the others. You are doing a BANG UP JOB!! You are never boring and love what you have to say. By the way, you can SEE them perform "BLUEBIRD" in the "ROCKSHOW" video of their 1976 "WINGS OVER AMERICA" concert tour. I attended that concert tour in May of 1976 in Detroit. I was married with one child who was 3 and just found out I was expecting our 2nd child just before we went to the concert. I was 29 years old at the time. FIRST time I saw him live in concert since I saw him in the Beatles in Cleveland on AUG. 14, 1966. First time he toured in the U.S. since the Beatles in '66. 10 year period.

My favorite of these songs is "1985", which, at the time "BOTR" was released in 1973, sounded "futuristic"! This tune is super catchy and propulsive through and through. I don't believe that "1985" came out as a single, but it should have been, because it would have been a "smash"! Sorry for the retro language, but it feels right for this music.
...it was such a happy time for Paul, after he's worked a bit through the trauma of the Beatles' split, having found in Linda the love of his life, and start growing his family, ...and he is certainly back to form here, and as magical as a composer, musician and performer as ever, probably even better... those were jolly times, also for his fans - the Wings' period was another golden age of McCartney Magic - besides of the awesome 'Band on the Run', I'd also strongly recommend its successor 'Venus and Mars' , of which material much is also on 'Wings over America (live)'... here some suggestions for that studio album: - 'Venus and Mars' (intro) into 'Rockshow' - 'Spirits of ancient Egypt' - 'Medicine Jar' - 'Listen to what the man said' ...but you can't get wrong on that album either - its all great stuff!! 💖
This live version of Live and Let Die was from 1993, 20 years after the song was released. Paul sang it on the Wings Over America tour, Rockshow video (1976), the One Hand Clapping video (1974), the same TV show that My Love was taken from (1973) and there is a studio version too (1973, recorded 1972). The film producers asked Paul to write the theme song for Live and Let Die. George Martin was asked to do the soundtrack after they heard Paul's song. The song was released before Band on the Run and went to number 1 on Cashbox. It hit number 2 on Billboard. The highest charting Bond song up to that time. My Love was on the album before Band on the Run. It went to number 1 on Billboard as did the album.
Lee, I love your reactions. They always feel heartfelt, especially the Beatle related episodes. I love how candidly you approach your conclusions. I enjoy your company and watching your Beatles' journey. Rest up, take care of yourself because we need more people like you! ✌️♥️ little brother 😊
Paul McCartney was contacted to write a song for the James Bond movie--after it was fully recorded it was sent to the producers of the movie who thought it was just a demo and asked who they were going to get to sing it! LOL It was the first James Bond title song to be nominated for an Oscar (but lost out to Barbra Streisand's The Way We Were).
I'm so much older than you, but I'm so glad that you said that you slowed down and looked at the stars. This is something I have done since I was a little kid and I still do it to this day and it really does feel like it helps. It's so cool that you pointed that kind of thing out.
1985! When this came out in the 70s, I was finally at a point in my piano lessons and just my experience playing music and stuff or I could play this. And I was obsessed with it. It's such a beautiful minor key almost Bach Fugue like kind of thing but of course it pulls in all the blues and everything else.
I love how you are getting into the Beatles. I enjoy watching your reaction. You should check out a couple of songs in which George Harrison plays a guitar solo on Belinda Carlisle - Leave a light on and Alvin Lee - the Bluest Blue. Love your channel keep it up
FYI: For those interested in the cover photo, the gang of escaping prisoners are: L to R across middle and front: Michael Parkinson (TV host), Kenny Lynch (singer, songwriter), Paul McCartney, Clement Freud (grandson of Sigmund). Linda, and Denny Laine, L to R three standing in rear: James Coburn (actor), Christopher Lee (actor). John Conteh (boxer) Note: Parkinson agreed do the shoot if Paul would appear on his show. it took 25 years, but Paul appeared on an entire Michael Parkinson show on 3 Dec. 1999.
Paul's voice!! Love Bluebird! I've always loved Paul's solo work. I think people had a hard time accepting all of them singularly. They wanted them to get back in the Beatles box.
As you continue to feature McCartney, the song "Call Me Back Again" from the "Rockshow" video, is a little known, great vocal performance. Bluesy, soulful, and gritty. Worth a listen! Also, the song "My Love" was a number one song.
So is, also from the "ROCKSHOW" video, "BEWARE MY LOVE" and "SOILY" along with "CALL ME BACK AGAIN" I HOPE he will react to all three of the VIDEO performances from "ROCKSHOW"
1985 PAUL is on piano. There are a few TH-cam vids that show him “playing and singing on the piano”. I love this version of Paul singing almost. He has a million voices, but this is the “natural” Paul voice.
Mind-boggling talent. If I listed all the '70s post-Beatles songs I'd most like to listen to at any given time, Paul would likely equal John and George combined, and you can add the few good ones by Ringo, too. Put them all together and you have a killer playlist.
Great video - a lot of wisdom being delivered by a relatively new Beatles/McCartney fan. Love hearing that you love music... and looking forward to more of your reactions. By the way - I finally subscribed to your channel (5 minutes ago) but have watched at least a few dozen of your uploads already. Just wanna say, keep up the positive energy 🎵🎶
they got robbed in nigeria, linda screamed at the robbers, "leave him alone, he doesn't have anything he's a musician" ha! McCartney brings out the love in us all❣
Such memories. That mullet! lol. I would love to see you react to the late 70s official tour film Rockshow, which was the Wings Over America Tour. Still my favourite show ever, and there are songs there you never hear on any album. Oh, and your reactions always give me a big smile. McCartney or not!
The best part of 1985 (the final track) was the ending where he brings in the acoustic guitar part and chorus from the opening track (Band on the Run) thus circling you, the listener, back to the beginning to play it all over again. AND WE DID!
Ok, I joined your channel because of the Beatles music and their solo careers. Beware though, they will creep into your DNA and years from now they will still be there.
I was blessed to see Sir Paul in concert last October, here in Australia! What a show, best concert ever! He did 1985 and Live and let die, including fireworks! 1985 my favourite by far. You need to react to Juniors Farm, Eat at home and Let me roll it, please?
Nineteen Hundred Eighty-Five is the closing track on Band on The Run, of which the title track is the stunning opener, hence the slight return at the end, as Jimi might say.
Fantastic song, skillfully written and beautifully arranged, with Paul's amazing voice, and the premier of the "Paul & Linda" harmonies, really!! Absolute GEM of a song...........one that a jealous Lennon trashed in "How Do You Sleep".
Prior to its release we all knew PM had a new album coming but didn't know the date. Tulsa FM radio KMOD was the first to give me a hint when out the blue it played Bluebird. They had an early copy. So that was my first listen to any of this album .(not counting Helen Wheels which was an earlier single the record companies tacked onto side two. It wasn't supposed to be on Band on the Run, but there was room, and it was somewhat of a hit and EMI America was nervous as Paul's last album wasn't critically well received)
Same thing happened with the White Album in '68. We knew it was coming but not when, Then one late night in Little Rock, I heard "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" and our ears perked up. Then had to wait a couple weeks to buy the LP. Those were the days---anticipation.
The band quit the day before and morning of them flying to Nigeria to record! The EMI studio was basically a shack, so they had to build it upon arrival. Their DEMOS were stolen by the thieves so they had to record the songs from memory. Paul had a bronchial spasm (from smoking) halfway through recording. And there was a Malaria outbreak in the area. Literally hell for Paul but BOTR is his best-selling album! (Btw, Lennon fan boy critics trashed Paul’s first few albums, nothing to do with fans. ‘McCartney’ and ‘RAM’ are 🤌🏽, as you know.) Hope you get your mojo back! Thanks for McCartney Mondays 😎
Saw Paul live on the Out there tour, he did this solo on a grand Piano , and I swear the stadium trembled when he pounded those keys...never heard anything like that barn burner banging ass song! ❤
Having listened to music all my life and play and write myself. I have gone through Jazz, Reggae, Blues, House, Rock and heavy metal and punk and New romantic and more. And having got into the Beatles when I was 26... of course I knew who they were but I only knew a few of their songs..and then one day I listened and omg, I have never looked back Theh amaze and thrill to this day and I honestly believe that overall, McCartney is the best artist in music the end. The writing, playing, construction, melody... he is just a conjurer of music. Of course he does not ha e the COOL image of other artists and this has been his only downfall, but for the people who know, it's about the music and McCartney wipes everyone away
I liked Macca's post Beatles work but not as much as the previous fab stuff! However I particularly liked the track nineteen eighty five Lee though I'm not sure why ? ! Over the years he always made good tracks - I found him consistent , a true talent and great voice flexibility too! 🌈💈🤡
I can remember dancing to this song in the Rock Clubs in the 70s. We worked all day and Danced All Night in the 70s! The Never Ending Party was always waiting, in Every town in America!
Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five (the closer for BOTR) has to be one of my favorite Macca tracks ever. The sheer creativity of it still blows me away. In the same vein, "Morse Moose and the Grey Goose" (the closer for "London Town") is also crazy good. It's about a "ghost ship" claiming it's latest victim.
The Live Live&Let Die" was with his band in the early 90's. The "My Love" video features the guitarist and drummer who departed just before Band on the Run. They had been with him for like two albums. When Paul McC' went into the Rock Hall, as a solo artist, it was really as the rotation of WINGS and further touring bands. Denny Laine, who recorded, and co-wrote with Paul for like 12 years didn't get in the Hall then. He was originally with The Moody Blues, and was included with them, a few years before he died.
If possible, you should watch the first live version of Live and Let Die. The person who was over the pyrotechnics didn't calculate correctly, and it knocked Paul off his piano bench.
Dont Let It Bring You Down from the very impressive album London Town ìs another one of the many superbly brilliant paul mccartney songs. Your videos are great❤ thanks.
I like to say that John says what he means and Paul means what he says.
McCartney just seems to have an endless stream of original melodies in his head. What a gift! Just one timeless tune after another.
I saw the Wings Tour when this album came out. Incredible! There were still hoards of women screaming Paul's name like they did at the time of the Beatles.
Bluebird is such a magical song. ✌
Paul said that one of his biggest compliments came from Keith Moon who heard this album and asked him who the great drummer on it was.

same, these two are the best, they are explosive
I'm 70 now, this has been one of my two favorite albums since it came out 50 years ago.
How can anyone deny the talent of Paul McCartney. The Beatles, Wings, solo. GOAT. Love your channel Lee and especially your Beatles videos.
My love is a great song! Denny's bass playing was just beautifully played on the song as well as the lead guitar break.
When me and my older brother saw Wings in Boston in 76, he did Live and Let Die and brought the house down!!!
You’ve gotta watch the live 1985 version from the One Hand Clapping sessions! McCartney’s vocals and performance are so great as always.

Nineteen hundred and eighty five is one of Paul's best solo tracks. Thank you for covering so many of the Fab Four's material. You are a true fan now.

You should check out a couple of songs in which George Harrison plays a guitar solo on
Belinda Carlisle - Leave a light on and
Alvin Lee - the Bluest Blue.
Love your channel keep it up
What a great way to slide into the last week of summer. Love Sir Paul, never enough. Blessings all.
Coburn appeared in 70 action films including "Our Man Flint" and "The Magnificent Seven," Lee was in a multitude of B-Horror Films.
Lee was best known as Dracula in a string of movies for Hammer Studios in the 1960s and '70s. R.I.P. Mr. Lee.@@genegarrett3372
The Beatles... In and Out of the band are the SOUNDTRACK of my LIFE!
Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five" - one of my favourites
Bluebird is a great example of Paul’s facility for melody.
@@patticrichton1135 Agree totally!
1985 PAUL is on piano. There are a few TH-cam vids that show him “playing and singing on the piano”.
I love this version of Paul singing almost. He has a million voices, but this is the “natural” Paul voice.
I really like Let Me Roll It from Band On The Run, especially the live version from Wing Over America/Rockshow
Absolutely hate that song. It goes on about 3 minutes too long and rips off John as well.
One of his best albums
Mind-boggling talent. If I listed all the '70s post-Beatles songs I'd most like to listen to at any given time, Paul would likely equal John and George combined, and you can add the few good ones by Ringo, too. Put them all together and you have a killer playlist.
This whole album is just fantastic. It won several awards.
I feel lucky to have a copy.
Paul McCartney- the many of many voices. 1985 is one of my favorites and a perfect ending to a great album.
I was introduced to cannabis Well this song was playing in the spring it's 1974 something I'll never forget
Thank you, Gail, for this wonderful exposition!
they got robbed in nigeria, linda screamed at the robbers, "leave him alone, he doesn't have anything he's a musician" ha! McCartney brings out the love in us all❣
One of my favorite albums. Paul is such a treasure.
The original of Live and Let Die is by Paul Mc Cartney -he wrote it !
I love music, Paul McCartney, y'all, and you too bro.
The Wings albums are great. Some of McCartney's best albums. Red Rose Speedway is a masterpiece and it came 2 years before Band on the Run.
1985 Always been one of my favorite PM songs. Those clever catchy melodies just kept coming in his time.
Paul was pretty progressive. Another great song from this album, is "Goodnight, Tonight". They looked so beautiful.
Holy epic mullets. That last vid, Paul looks like he couldn't choose between long hair or short hair, so he went with both 🤣
It became his signature look.
Actors James Coburn & Christopher Lee are also with the band in the album cover photo
Yes, Lee played Count Dracula and Count Dooku. I count two counts 😄
@@alrivers2297 2, 2 counts! Ah ah ah.
Such memories. That mullet! lol. I would love to see you react to the late 70s official tour film Rockshow, which was the Wings Over America Tour. Still my favourite show ever, and there are songs there you never hear on any album. Oh, and your reactions always give me a big smile. McCartney or not!
Great idea! RIP Linda, Denny and Jimmy 💔
End to end Band on the Run is one of the best albums!! 💜 Great reaction!
This was so good ... love Paul
Great set list. Listen to his single Another Day
Fantastic song, skillfully written and beautifully arranged, with Paul's amazing voice, and the premier of the "Paul & Linda" harmonies, really!! Absolute GEM of a song...........one that a jealous Lennon trashed in "How Do You Sleep".
Paul is a musical genius.
You've gotta watch "Chaos and Creation at Abbey Road".
I lean towards Lennon and I would never trash Paul, George or Ringo. I love them all
Saw Paul live on the Out there tour, he did this solo on a grand Piano , and I swear the stadium trembled when he pounded those keys...never heard anything like that barn burner banging ass song! ❤
Paul sporting the mullet on My Love 😂
Lol I had the same mullet
Having listened to music all my life and play and write myself.
I have gone through Jazz, Reggae, Blues, House, Rock and heavy metal and punk and New romantic and more.
And having got into the Beatles when I was 26... of course I knew who they were but I only knew a few of their songs..and then one day I listened and omg, I have never looked back
Theh amaze and thrill to this day and I honestly believe that overall, McCartney is the best artist in music the end.
Paul wrote "Live And Let Die". George Martin did the score for the movie.
I LOVE MUSIC TOO ! 😊 Love to ya Lee. Peace ✌
Music- great way to start and keep Luv flowing, IMO!
My favorite Macca track I’ve heard… but it keeps changing every week! lol
👍Absolutely, these two closing tracks have the same kind of vibe!
Back in the 1970s, people derided Wings for not being The Beatles, but -as you’re discovering-they we’re fecking awesome!
You mean fecked!
Yes, there is a cover of Live and Let Die. It's by Guns 'N' Roses.
I got to watch this live in 2010 with all of those pyrotechnics! It was great with over 3 hours of music!
If possible, you should watch the first live version of Live and Let Die. The person who was over the pyrotechnics didn't calculate correctly, and it knocked Paul off his piano bench.
Very relaxing with a cup of tea
Great stuff❤❤❤❤
Dont Let It Bring You Down from the very impressive album London Town ìs another one of the many superbly brilliant paul mccartney songs. Your videos are great❤ thanks.
