  • The Queen of the Skies in all her glory. There's a few shots, especially later in this video, the average avgeek certainly won't see particularly often. When was the last time you leaned a camera out the upper deck of a 747? or got to see an up-close of the tail strobe? I'm very lucky to have these experiences and hopefully through this video you can live some of the magic of the moment with me!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The old Northwest Airlines Boeing 747s used to fly out of Chicago O'Hare International Airport in the 1990s... perhaps one of these birds is the one that I vividly remember watching pushback out of the gate from ORD to Tokyo and Manila.
    N669US (cn 24224/803) Originally a Northwest Airlines bird, this aircraft, like most of the current Delta 744 fleet has worn three different liveries: old Northwest, nwa Silver and red and finally Delta blue and white.
    Delta Air Lines Boeing 747-400 747-451 N673US / 6313 (cn 30268/1226)
    Named the "City of Tokyo" when it flew with Northwest Airlines.
    These two have been common visitors over the years at...
    Tokyo Narita International Airport RJAA / NRT, Shanghai Pudong International Airport ZSPD / PVG, Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport EHAM / AMS, New York JFK Kennedy International Airport KJFK / JFK , Osaka Kansai International Airport KIX / RJBB, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport LLBG / TLV, Los Angeles International Airport KLAX / LAX, Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport RPLL / MNL, Paris Charles de Gaulle Roissy International Airport LFPG / CDG, Taoyuan Taipei Taiwan International Airport RCTP / TPE, Beijing Capital International Airport ZBAA / PEK, Nagoya Chubu Centrair International RJGG / NGO, Tokyo Haneda International Airport RJTT / HND, Honolulu International Airport PHNL / HNL, Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport KMSP / MSP, etc.

    An aircraft in maintenance truly is a great sight! I get to see a320's, 737's, 757's, 767's and a300's in a maintenance hangar but I bet a 747 is something else! Good Job! :-)

    Jay this is so cool. The most beautiful plane ever! I read your description first and thought what in the hell is a tail strobe, Well dummy me it's a strobe in the tail! Very interesting cause I had never seen one before. Oh I so want to fly in one.The engines and flaps on that beautiful wing. Damn I am so jealous. Cockpit looks so complicated and mind numbing at the same time . The before take-off list on the steering was to me the best part . Do this than this than that. Wonderful my friend just wonderful. Hope new job is going well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all of your fellow fans!

    Wow! :-) The 747, a fixture of Global Skies for more than 45 years which has been able to link cities across multiple continents enabling high passenger yields at affordable prices. Today sales for 747s and A380s have sharply declined and the sales of 777s, 787s and A350s have risen. The Era of the Jumbo is ending and the Era of the 777s, 787s and A350s is beginning. Yet the 747 will always Inspire fans worldwide and for those lucky to have flown on them the memories will always be treasured. What a great video Jay! :-)

    • @OHAREAVIATION
      @OHAREAVIATION  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Syed Hoque Sad to see the Jumbo Jet era wind to a close.... enjoying it while i can. I think the future of commercial long-range aviation is bright though with many exciting new variants and routes. Looking forward to it.

    • @scoobycarr5558
      @scoobycarr5558 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Boeing has brought out the new Dreamliner 787-10 plus the new 777X that are supposed to be more efficient and able to achieve 10,000 miles nonstop. France's Airbus is about to counter with a new version of the A350 that can go at least 12,000 miles nonstop. For these longer flights, however, most airlines such as Air France, Singapore, Cathay Pacific and Qantas prefer to add a stopover to their flight plans. Qantas right now has added a stopover for their long range flights from London to Australia. Cathay Pacific has added a stopover from Hong Kong for its long range flights mainly terminating in London.

    N669US is my favorite of all the Delta 747’s. It’s the one I flew on from Detroit to Seoul and back on its last scheduled flight. Even got to visit the cockpit! Both flight reports are on TH-cam. Also flew on N664US in 2009 when it was Delta on the inside but still Northwest livery.

    • @OHAREAVIATION
      @OHAREAVIATION  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Platinum Takeoff Pretty sweet! I spent 23 of 24 hours on 669 going to from Tokyo just to fly on a Delta 747 before they retired it, I even got to autograph it with a magic marker before they sent it to the desert. Pictures are on instagram and my video is here on TH-cam.

    • @canadianplanespotter
      @canadianplanespotter 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly yes, most airlines are. Air France will fly it's last 747 in January, Delta is slowly getting rid of them...and a bunch of other companies have already stopped using them. Thankfully British Airways plans to preserve its jumbo jet fleet, and Lufthansa and KLM also operate a large number. Safe to say the "Queen of the Skies" won't last much longer :( because other planes like the 777 and Airbus a330 can do exactly what the 747 can, but for a cheaper cost

      Yes, most of the ones Delta has are from the early 1990s. Northwest was the 747-400 launch customer in 1989, and Delta aquired Northwest in 2008

    Jay, Your description of the 747 is apt when you called it "The Queen of the Skies". IMO, there is nothing like staring at a Boeing 747 close up on any other type of aircraft, just as you provided in this vid. And that includes those monstrosity Airbus A-380's. For those who are into computer flight simulation PMDG's version of the 747's, (both 400s and 8i's) are unrivaled on any other type of sim aircraft.
    Thanks for sharing this awesome vid, Jay! The one clueless person who voted this vid a "thumbs down" must work for Airbus, lol! I'd also like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2016, Jay. Thank you for all that you do for aviation fans with your awesome YT channel, sir!

    Loved your video of the 747 and especially the inside shots of the hangar as I am building a 1:400 scale model of the hangar. I collect 1:400 scale models and have around 100 of them. Any additional video of the insides of that 2 bay 747 hangar at MSP would be most appreciated. I have the plans for the hangar, showing the dimensions but want to add lights to the interior so that it can look all the more realistic inside as well. Thank you again!

    RIP 747...so sad most airlines are retiring them and very few passenger airlines have bought the new one

    • @OHAREAVIATION
      @OHAREAVIATION  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PremierAutoMan86 have to agree..... sad to see the 747 nearing retirement across the board. The twin-engine variants are loved for their fuel efficiency and most airlines will take a new twin-engine over a new four-engine for that reason. Enjoying them while I can.

      +italianpizzadude 20 they usually don't actually... they do come here for maintenance from time to time or for charters. Occasionally they depart on a plane-swap. It depends though.

    • @OHAREAVIATION
      @OHAREAVIATION  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +G Thanks for watching! I tried my best to get a little bit of that one departure but I agree, wasn't the best shot of it with a limited view of the takeoff available due to two jet bridges blocking the view and some guy talking in the background. Sorry, i can't do everything and be everywhere. You do realize this is an amateur film as well. It just looks better perhaps because I know how to get a few shots and market my videos. To get a really good takeoff shot i would've had to of been on the other side of the airport at the viewing area which you can't get to in less than 10 minutes. By the time the aircraft pulls back from the gate and I get over there he will already be gone. There were only 2 Delta 747 takeoffs that day and I thought this one was going to depart first and I'd get the second one later. Turns out this one ended up getting delayed and the other one took off before we all thought it was going to.
      Sometimes you don't get lucky and make the best of it. At least I was able to take a tour of the 747 in the hanger to try and salvage the video. Even that didn't turn out the greatest trying to stay out of maintenance's way while filming.
      Yep, these videos generally take a lot more to put together than what meets the eye. Glad you enjoyed what i managed to make. Happy holidays and happy 2016!
