  • There was a tremendous amount of discussion across a couple of Facebook groups about a Singer 66 where the feed dog all of a sudden doesn't come up through the needle plate. I put an old "as found" Red Eye into the fixture and we have an anatomy lesson...

    Great analysis, a bit slow getting there but thank you for confirming the situation.

    Let's say your sewing machine is giving off a metal screech when in motion from the feeddog area;
    would it be down the feeddog position or just need more oil somewhere?
    It didn't initially make this sound until about ten minutes of use.

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, that's hard to say, but you can eliminate feed dog adjustments as being the culprit by removing the needle plate and seeing if the sound goes away. Odds are, it's a lubrication issue though, and not the feed dog rubbing against the plate.

      @esk8jaimes ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BobFowlerWorkshop on further inspection there's some scratching on the underside of the presser foot likely from the feed dogs.
      Question is, do I adjust the feed dog positioning, the presser foot bar position, or the presser foot bar tensioner bolt?

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@esk8jaimes Scratching on the bottom of the foot is usually because the machine was run with the foot down and no fabric under the foot. You can polish that out using fine grit foam cored nail files. It's not necessarily an indication of the need for presser height adjustment.

    I have a 626 the feeding back in forth is feels clunky

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience with the various Singer Touch & Sew models, I have found that they aren't what one would call "silky smooth". Most of them that I have handled/owned/used are rather clunky compared to the older straight stitch machines, or the higher end machines such as a 403. I'll probably take a lot of flak for this, but I haven't seen a T&S yet that I really liked. I'm not saying they are bad machines, they're just not my cup of tea.

    I’m working on a 99 and while I’m familiar with how to set the height, I can’t find any resources on how to adjust the forward and backward adjustment, it’s hitting at the back. Do you happen to have a video for that adjustment on a 99? Thank you.

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Rhonda, the information you need is all covered in my video "A Closer Look: Singer 66 Bottom End Adjustments - Sunday Morning Quickies, Ep. 79, April 23, 2023" which you can find here:
      th-cam.com/video/UxdtFigLMhc/w-d-xo.html
      Even though the video shows a 66, it is exactly the same adjustments for a 99. Hope this helps!

      @@BobFowlerWorkshop well, I’m at my machine and unfortunately the 99 is a little bit different from the 66 so I’m gonna just take a chance and loosen up what appears to be a set screw on the right hand side. Wish me luck 😬

    Can I remove a feed dog from model 66 machine?

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, but why? FMQ?

    • @jjoojjoobar
      @jjoojjoobar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BobFowlerWorkshop I guess FMQ stands for free motion quitiling. Not for quiting but I want to use a free motion foot. I think I learned which screw that I need to remove from this video, but can’t turn it at all. Any tips to get loosen the old screw that’s stuck?

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jjoojjoobar Yes, FMQ = Free Motion Quilting. As for the stuck screw... a little penetrating oil + time and it should come loose. NEVER force anything, and if you want to use some tapping to break it free, BE GENTLE!
