Always best to avoid a teardown. Too many people take these apart to clean them when there is no need and you risk disturbing factory setting and tolerances. They will look just as good and likely operate better the way you did it. Nice job! Looks like new!

I see domestic machines labeled as industrial often as well , the reason is , most people dont realize we used to make things of of quality materials not plastic crap and they dont realize vintage machines were made to take a beating and this is why they made them so well , now with that said , any cast iron or aluminum singer made pre 70s could be considered industrial compared against any domestic machine made today , i dont get why you would go buy a new plastic sewing machine for hundreds, when you could buy a vintage for way less and have a way better machine , i own 9 machines now , most are singers but also have a 1951 Necchi BU i rescued from going to scrap , payed 0 for it and its one of my fovorite machines . There is only one problem with vintage machines .....once you buy oneyou want them all ...lol

I picked up one just like it the other day , lady was asking $30 I handed her 2 20s in a cherry Queen Anne table had to rewire a few things but it's just like that it's a 1950 Canadian model and it sews like crazy ! .53 amp motor, my gold is 98%
I just sent her a video of it so I'm really fast and I don't know if she's too happy but I am.

For future reference, if you ever rehab another one, get some gojo Hand cleaner and a paint brush. Coat the whole thing and the dirt will melt right off. The just rub down and polish with carnuba and it will shine like new. Yours looks beautiful, just a tip to save you some effort next time.

Disassemble the tension wheel assembly. Inside the main shaft there should be a pin roughly 1/16" in diameter and less than an inch long. Without this pin the 2 discs will not open or close when you operate the foot.

Hi Mr. Johnson. That's nice work you did!!! I just had a Singer 66 with crinkle finish given to me. Mine needs all new wiring. I see yours doesn't have wires. Are you in the process of rewiring it? If so, it would be great to see a demonstration on that, or some tips. I live in Maryland as well. I love to fix things. I find repair shops to be very scarce, my opinion. I have found a really good one, Tedco Industries on Hollins Ferry Rd. (I think that's the spelling) I do a lot of sewing and upholstery, I get supplies there. They sell commercial machines and repair all. (I haven't had to do that, I do my own) thank you for your most helpful video. Maria

I run a new wire to my reo stat , it is is in series with the motor .. I run my light on a different circuit and some of them were like that anyway it took me about 20 minutes to rewire the whole thing and put another plug on it I even added an outlet under the table.

Is it me or it doesn’t look like the same machine from the one that it was used paint thinner which definitely disolved the shellac and the last one that now has decals that weren’t there before? Or did I miss something and and it was repainted and new decals were installed? If you repaint what did you use because it looks amazing

The tension adjuster you mention does not open up- you may have put the spring on backwards. Google it and look at images for someone describing how to assemble this component. Also the ticking- after making sure everything is tightened up, check the timing. I can't quite think exactly how it's done, as I haven't had to do it, but there are a few videos on TH-cam about that, and you don't have to have the exact model to learn the process. If you still need help, post a detailed video and how she sews would tell you/us so we can comment and try to help. Thanks!!

Can you please show how to wind the bobbin in a Singer 66?

You did a great job. I’d like to see the final product with the cabinet. I’m not sure what you are asking about the upper tension dial, but I assume you took it apart already and then checked to see if the tension numbers correspond to the normal tension ranges. If the tension of the upper thread is not loosening with the presser foot lifter being raised, the central pin in the tension might be stuck with goo or grim. By disassembling the tension control, the center rod could be checked and cleaned, allowing it to release the upper tension when the presser foot is lifted. I’m not an expert, at all. I’m learning just like you. Good luck with a wonderful gift for your wife.

if you haven't figured out yet, the tension spring itself may need replacing. but being that it is a year later you probably found out the reason and fixed this bad gorgeous momma.

      @donaldharvey8813 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My understanding is the tension disc only open up when you raise the presser foot lever.

It looks good after that short cleaning. Did the paint thinner end up damaging the paint? I think many people use the term "Industrial" to define a machine that can handle heavy weight thread and sew leather goods and multiple layers of denim, and not a machine that can sew 24/7.

    • @harryjohnson6879

The Pant Thinner did not damage the finish or the decals.
I agree with the rest of your comment.

if its anything like the old singer's I have it is an Industrial sewing machine to today's standards and they will run 24 hours a day if you oil then regularly and service or replace the motor, the 201 is a domestic singer but it was used in royal's royce's production lines sewing upholstery and that model is still in use through out Asia in sweat shops

I just watched this man do a tension spring replacement so maybe that's something that will help you. By now you've probably figured it out but, just passing it on. Thanks for showing how you do your great cleaning job. I have been a little timid to get into mine but, your video helped. Good video. Hope you got it going and your wife is enjoying it.
