Players are more familiar with each other from growing up playing amongst each other, but its probably a few that don't get along, or just not fukk with each other for whatever reason.
A rivalry doesn’t have to be fights or violence. Just have some intensity about the match up. Just have some want to when it comes to wanting to be the best. You need the storylines to keep the nba going.
Some of these guys have been playing on the same team together since 14 & some of these teams don't play in any meaningful games against each other to be called an rivalry and add that with players not staying with the team that drafted them

There’s no way you watch playoff basketball and have this opinion. In a season of 82 games you’re bound to have nights where players are going through the motions, but in playoffs you literally see a switch happen and players play hard all 48 minutes

Another dynamic to why there aren't many individual player rivalries is that many players are legacy babies of NBA players from the 70's to mid-90's. (Curry's, Bryant's, Anthony's, Barry's, Walton's, Brunson's, Hardaway's, Peyton's, etc.).Those boys were around the game from birth, played with other baller kids or is the God-child of a baller.

Rivalries were always about the teams....players realize now they are just as important as the team that can trade you in a blink of an eye. Its like gang members killing to protect a neighborhood they pay rent in.

The NFL is also kind of losing its rivalries. All the skills players in the nfl now played 7on7 with each other or work out together in the off season. We still get good in division rivals and even non division ones like the chiefs/bengals ,chiefs/bills, and 9ers and cowboys.
If those oldschool players were being fined $15K+ I guarantee none of that stuff would’ve been happening.. $25 isn’t the same as $25K

Just pull up clips of the Under 19 USA games. You'll see dang near every player picked in the lottery and a few more. Not to mention these prep schools, they all go to the same ones. Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes and Moses Moody played on the same highschool team , the Ball brothers and Onyeka Okongwu all played on Chino Hills. These guys are also hanging out together after these AAU tourneys. I think it was last summer league Kenny Lofton Jr gave Chet Holmgren the business, they interviewed Chet afterward and asked him about it and his face lit up. He was like "Aww that's my dog, I love that guy , we been playing against each other for years". These guys are lifelong friends.

This NBA generation is soft due to money loss of fighting which makes the game easier to the point that there's only offense and not enough defense. I myself in my prime can get plenty of mvp trophies and I don't even play in the NBA. The greats can probably get an average of 33 points in a season
