Thanks Blayne. I’m going to make some more videos this week. One about the flag leaf and walking through how to tell when a banana is about to fruit. The second is just some good 4k video of the flower. Up close, slow moving, all the detail, etc.. I haven’t seen any videos out there that are high quality video just showing the flower and fruit
@@blaynesplantvlog7117 keep posting the daily shorts. I like watching the progress. And look for that flower moving up the trunk. I’m excited to follow along
a banana flower is such a great experience glad you and blayne will be able to see one! hopefully true fruit gets to ripen before the freezes come and go
Hello Farmer, this is such an exciting video!! Beautiful banana trees and red flag. I hope you got a chance to taste the bananas bc I know this is a lot to hard work. I love how this tree looks!!
I bought a few double mahoi’s from a Florida nursery last year (tissue culture) and they have put off at least 6 pups each this past summer. Have you had the same experience with these things multiplying faster than other varieties? My lady finger and blue Java’s put off pups, but not at all like these mahoi’s
Congrats! REALLY beautiful plants and flower! 😃 If you cut the flower, you won’t have the fulle experience… Maybe there some way to avoid the plant getting cold or reflecting sun on the next weeks… I don’t have any clue in how to give more heat, so they can fruit rapidly. Also, if in only one week it gree so much, it will probably keep going fast. Let’s hope for the best! 😃🤞
Thanks Jorge!!! I agree, I think I will focus on enjoying the experience for this flower and let it grow in beauty. Then next year, really focus on having one fruit as early as possible to try for edible fruit
Can’t wait for yours. You will have a better chance at them ripening than me. Do you think I should cut some off? Or leave them all on there. It’s like 150+
Also it’s crazy because this was not the tree I thought even had a chance haha. It was so far behind. I think this shows that my “dwarf” namwah isn’t actually a dwarf. Probably got sold the wrong variety
@@georgiafarmingwithfluevog don’t .. it won’t change anything.. 1 or 150 they all have the same time to swell up… I can’t wait to see yours do the double thingy!

Awesome!! Man I was hoping for a surprise mid month update :) did you grow this one from tissue culture last year? About how old is the plant? Exciting stuff - can’t wait to see those bananas ripen :)
The double mahoi that just fruited is first generation tissue culture that I bought from wellspring gardens online last summer around May. I bought it at around 6" tall so I bet the plant is about 2.5-3 years old most likely. Probably will not have time to ripen by winter though. But the pups are growing so fast now that next summer it will fruit early in the summer by July
Just checked. This was filmed saturday afternoon and the 5th hand was almost finished opening. Now the 6th hand is almost completely open and it looks like there are at least 2, maybe 3 more to go. All so far have over 20 bananas. So I already count 120+. Rate seems around 1 hand per 36-48 hours. Its definitely slowing down considering it did 5 hands in 4 days including a flag leaf!
@@georgiafarmingwithfluevog soon it will switch to all male flowers and those will fall off.. but that’s insane! 6 hands of bananas! I will do a short this afternoon and we will hopefully see the bulge and stuff

If they don't ripen before winter, just use them as Green Bananas for cooking. They're delicious fried in oil as chips. Use them as a Potato replacement because they're just starch at this point.
