  • I noticed a couple problems in the aquarium and decided to do the first deep cleaning, and take care of a few other tasks that I needed to get done.

    I love the look of it! Also, the eye of the Silver Dollar looks terrific...I am pretty surprised how FAST that healed!

    Very nice aquarium setup.

    What I've found to be most helpful in silencing my seamless sump is adding about a 2 inch long piece of pvc to the elbow coming out of the sock tub and having a layer of fine filter pads in the top bio tray along with a ball of filter floss cuts the splashing down to zero

    Great video and great tank!

    Great video. You explain things well. Being a visual learner I am interested in your decision setting up your drain in the stealthbox overflow. Did you go herbie or bean animal etc. I see the PVC cut to the top of the box. Have ordered a tank from custom Aquarium and seamless sump. Worrying about noise. Thanks for your time.

    Ted... Where did you get the wood? Is it natural? How about the background piece?

    • @TedsFishroom
      @TedsFishroom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The background piece is from Universal Rocks (they gave me a discount on it). The other wood is manzanita and other misc pieces that I have had around for a while.

    Cool, thanks for sharing one more time and sorry for prob another long comment.. Fish disease: what about salt, especially when moving into new tank cycling? Some discus importer suggest 1g/L at start, then water change dilute it. What do you think? Lately got surprise when adding wild discus (from Santarém) to F1 ones, the wilds where fine and that was the F1 who caught smthg bad.. Detritus on bottom: you really should give a try to the T tubing before overflow, and you can even put some 90 for tubing under the sand surfacing intake exactly right spot! Feeder: yes, this one is top, thank for extensions that's cool. I'm going to print my ones.. have you thought about 3d printing at custom aquariums? Heaters: you power then directly? No Inkbird or other double-check controller..? Would definitely recommend it at one point of the hobby, affordable and worth it in comparison to live stock expense. Filter: 1 sock per week? Way too much for some hobbyist and what about trip of few weeks, how will you deal with that? No seriously, feel free to checkout automatic roll paper filter, this is such an improvement on many aspects! Already sharing info there: www.diyaquariumfilters.com, custom aquariums could easily develop a new module with that! Overflow: you have to change the setting because you put another water level in sump.. pressure on return pump not the same, then flow increase.. suggesting the need for auto top-off.. there as well, feel free to check out how to automate this task as other ones here: www.miaquarium.com
    Well, thanks again for sharing nice project!

      I will probably try the T-connection as some point, but the current elbow is glued in place and I would have to replace the entire bulkhead to do it. I actually mentioned that when recording the video, but the audio did not record correctly. I use salt occasionally, but it would probably not have made a significant difference in this case. There is already more sodium and chloride ion in my water that what one would normally add as a therapeutic dose for a body slime issue. I used to import a LOT of fish. It is not uncommon for fish that have been raised in an aquarium to catch something from a wild fish carrier, because the immune system of a wild fish is more seasoned. It is like a child raised on a farm compared to a child who never spends time in nature. Custom Aquariums has roll filters on their radar, but to redesign a tub to fit one easily (or design a new tub) is time consuming and costly. There are DIY ways to install one on our sumps, and that is something I would like to do to as a project at some point.

    Ted, what happened my friend?? You got me hooked with the 265gal videos and then you disappeared!? 😔 We need to know how your tank is doing and how the fish are? Also how good is the Seamless Sump system holding up? Did the lights give you the shimmering effect you were looking for? I'm contemplating a 375gal (72Lx40Dx30H) Custom Lifetime Aquarium with a Seamless Sump Package. I'd like to know if you feel your investment was worth the effort and MONEY, there's nothing inexpensive about this companies products😉. Thanks.

      Hello Skipp… That set up is now at a store in Madison, WI. We sold our home in the Summer of 2021 and all the tanks came down. We now move around a few times each year as I pursue a different interest (art and photography), so I do not have any aquariums or vivariums at the moment. Yes, the cost of a CA system is justified, especially if you want a large aquarium with relatively little maintenance. The SS filters were designed for the aquarium leasing industry. The company that owns CA has another division that is the largest leasing/maintenance company in the USA, and the filters (and tanks) have been thoroughly tested in the field. That 250 maintained perfect water quality for many weeks without a water change. The company regularly sets up five and seven week maintenance schedules. I also had a 180 on a more basic SS filter that maintained a Malawi cichlid tank for six months with a friend stopping by once a month of check on the auto feeder and change the filter socks. Not fish losses and the water was perfect and clear when I returned home. The filter needed a deep clean, but was functioning perfectly. I would not hesitate to use the CA system, and if I am ever in a position to have another large tank I will get another.
