My son is very sick and has had numerous surgeries in his life. He has spent a lot of time in the hospital and I can honestly say it’s scary but it’s also a safe place for us. The doctors and nurses have saved my sons life many times. I know being a doctor and nurse is extremely difficult and stressful. You are responsible for human lives. We are greatful for all the nurses and doctors.
I retired early as a PA and I can definitely relate to you! When I used to work at the hospitals, it burned me out badly to the point where I loathed the job and didn't want to get out of bed, but I had to anyway, bc I had a family to raise. My husband possessed a degree with a good wage, but that wasn't enough to raise our family and pay off his student loans. Whereas, I had the opportunity to have my loans forgiven. I ended up transitioning to work at a small clinic that was run by the state and it was a breeze. The job was stressful but I was actually a lot happier, both mentally and emotionally, and I wasn't physically sick often. Our job has a good pay off but the mental toll can get worse if we do not know how to prioritize our time or take care of our wellbeing. I suggest you to take time off and go for a long vacation and contemplate what you what in life. You're the only one who knows what's best for you, not the outsiders bc they aren't in your position. *Excuse my grammar
I give you a pat on the back for your accomplishment, sister. 👍😉 I can only imagine how stressful your job was at the hospital. It's good that you were able to retire early. Also, your grammar is WAAAAY better than most of these people in the comments. It's drives me nuts when I read a bad or really bad sentence or paragraph and almost everything is wrong, and it makes no sense!
That is why as a parent you let your children choose their path, not go into the path you want them to go to. At the end of the day, it’s your child happiness and future not yours. I truly hope our Hmong parents will start to understand that’s it’s your child future/happiness so let them go into a field they want to. As a parent myself, I tell my college children, go into a field that will make you happy, not me. Regardless of what it is, I’ll support you.
These kind of parents are the 1975 parents who cares about their fame and reputation, they don't understand how hard it is for their kids to go through school, all they understand is that they want their kids to be doctors so that it'll make them look good

The medical field is tough mentally. Do what is best for you not for your dad. He's not the one suffering mentally. You don't want to go crazy because you want to make your dad proud. Life is short.
That's right. Sounds like he's still young and got many years ahead of him. Not sure if he has children and a family, of so, that's even more of a reason to get out.

Thank you so much brother, for having the courage to share your experience with us, I appreciate all the effort and education you put yourself through for your father's wish. May the Lord blesses you and give you strength as you continue to save lives.
Your mental health is very important. Please change your profession. We are not meant for all professions and that's okay. Please do what makes YOU happy. You are the one suffering. Don't be afraid to disappoint your father.
Don’t want to lost an important person to the community and especially to our Hmong community. I encourage you to read this from the Bible....Psalms chapter 23 verses 1 to 6. You don’t need to be an Christian to be love and comfort by God. He is always with you.
Doc, don’t give up in your career. You are too hard on yourself. You can’t save every lives. You are not expected to save everyone. Spiritual beings are expected at hospitals. Keep going
Thank you for sharing your experience, mister. May you be able to find something that will bring you peace, good money, that you'll love and save your mental health.
What an amazing insight of your field. Shift your position to something that deals with lower stress. I understand that you want to make your dad proud, but at the end of the day, you are the one who is facing all the situations. I'm sure he will be proud of you no matter what. Best of luck to you, brother.

Very interesting topic and perspective! Don’t let anyone pressure you into doing something that kills your soul. Find a career in which even if you don’t get paid you’ll do it because it’s your passion. I was pre-Med my freshman year in college and said no. I’m in a work field that satisfies my soul.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with the public, so we can share with our sons and daughters. We have to let them know to pick the jobs they like and enjoy of working for many years to come. It seems like you are trying to fulfill your father’s dream only. You need to move on to do the job you enjoy. When you get older your symptoms are going to get worse.
As a almost 40 year old, I can honestly say as you get older it’s not about money in your career, it’s about a healthy work and life balance. Please take care of yourself it can cause a lot of health issues. Maybe become a family doctor or something less stressful. We appreciate all doctors.

Live for yourself. Not for others. Your dad isn't the one going through these issues. You are. If he wants a doctor, tell him to be one. Do what's best for you.
This is an interesting story. Brother, you went through a Phenomenal experience of your career; not everyone can explain your situation. I suggest follow your heart not just your mind. You are very spiritual...have you consider examining the spiritual aspect? If not, please reconsider. Not everyone is fit for the most desired career. Good luck!

It's time to change career brother. No job/career is worth you risking your livelyhood and sanity. There's other practices that you can still work in that keep you sane and still continue to pursue your passion. Leave now, those who are telling you to stay in such as your colleagues and your father, once your sanity is gone, they will be too busy to come look after you. Good luck!
There should be no shame dealing with anxiety. I am not a physician but I do feel all the things you do and see things. Hmong people in general are very spiritual people. You just have to learn how to deal with that part of you.
As a nurse, I understand the stress your job demands so much out of you. You already tried your best and only you know when it's time to let go. Your heart is in the right place but it costs your health greatly.
It’s a tough responsibility. Sometimes people think it’s easy but it’s not. We all should be thankful for all doctors. Koj yuav mus nkawm los kavtsij mus. It’s your health not your parents. You’re the one suffering not them.

If you don’t have a strong desire to be a Dr and it’s not YOUR passion or choice to go be a Dr and help save lives than you should never go into it. Being scared and frighten of blood or splitting a human body apart is not someone that should go be a DR. I can imagine it’s not easy being a doctor because you are in a position where you are now responsible for a persons life when they come to you for help. It’s not a task to be taken lightly and can be stressful and a heavy burden. It may have its rewards but it also comes with a price and only you can decide if it’s a price you are willing to pay and if it’s worth the reward. Thank you for sharing your perspective on this as some only see the glorified version and not all of what being a doctor entails. I hope you find peace and your calling whatever it may be because life is too short to live your life according to others, Best of luck to you!
Since this is affecting your mental health, it's best that you change your career. You can't be forcing yourself to do something that you have no motivation doing. Good luck to you and I hope that you do what you love and make you happy and that you're not just doing it for your dad. Bc your dad will never understand what you're going through.
I agree with you. I work with a lot of doctor. People think that doctor is a robot and no pain, no feeling, but actually doctor have more stress and depress than anyone else. 3 of my doc have heart bypassed due to a lot of stress. One of our lovely patients die my doctor and I hurt a lot.
Why meet your parents wants? Our Asian parents that’s all they wants for their children, but is you have to take depression’s med and also it’s not your passion to practice then NO need to do it.
You need to love yourself and choose what is best for your health and sanity. Change your career because it sounds like this isn't the right one for you.
To this brother, I think this is not the profession that you enjoyed but you did it because of your Dad. You wasted all your school year doing something you hate!! If you really love it you pour all your passion into learning to healed and compassion toward your patients. You made need to reevaluate your career. Growing up I've always loved helping people and Know that I want to work with elderly or people. I'm a nurse and I love all my patients I can't even wait to see all of them!! Do what you love not what people want you to be!! Be happy!
Brother you very brave to make it that far. Proud of you but if that job takes a toll on you, think twice and change direction because your life is more precious than the job.
Doc, I'm a nurse but outpatient setting and I cannot relate. I say don't give up. I think you just need to have a big hear...siab loj and look it as your have a psych ability that you able to see and communicate with the dead or those who is going to die.
Wow, interesting. I am not a doctor but love to listen to the story. I believe doctors are good people. If I have a chance, i like to be a pediatrician. Wish you well.
Wow, good story for others to have different views on being a Surgeon or doctor. Sounds like this is not the right career for you. Is best you find something else to do before you destroy your own self. For me, I knew I will not be able to see dead bodies and cut people's bodies for surgery etc, so I never consider studying that field. Best wishes to you brother.
Right! Agree. Honestly I wouldn't want a surgeon who is that afraid or have that much anxiety every time if needed to have surgery. People go to these people because they need the help and if you can't, maybe not the profession for you.
yes it's very true and the biggest problem is they have a high divorce rate among doctors because they're not with their significant others... i wanted my son to pursued his medical doctor degree too, but my son said, '' no dad, i don't want to end up like most of my colleagues that are doctors... he has 5 friend and 4 are divorced and the fifth is on bad term... only hmong people appraised and adamant to hold on to that husband for his title... we as parent don't force your kids to pursue your dream, but let him pursue his own dreams not yours.
This is the problem with our society...people only enter a certain career because of fame and money without realizing what they do to their mental. This is also the reason why soo many mental health issues. This also why people always mistreat patients/clients bc it's for money not the passion for the job.
Tus tub koj lub siab yau yog koj ceeb koj ntshai lawm koj yuav tau mus nrhiav cov neeg uas txawj xaisceeb es muab xais ob peb zaug yog cov ntxim mas zoo ov yog koj yuav noj tshuaj nyuaj siab ces yuav tau noj tag koj lub neej os es nrhiav kev pab nawb
Being a certain Doctor depends on the person's passion and mentality. Not everyone can go into it . That's why we have many different types of doctors.
It's so sad that we as children suppress our own health and well being because we want our parents to be happy. I know you were just trying to live your parents dreams but your father is selfish for not caring about your health and well being. Its you who suffer and do not enjoy your life. So what makes you happy and what you can handle.

You're spiritual gifted. Your 3rd eye is opened. That's why you're able to see spirits.
Umm as a person who feel others presents, I don’t think it’s a gift at all. I’m constantly scared
Tsis tau hnov cov Dav Tawm tham li hehe kuj txaus ntshai kawg thiab.
Koj ntshai npaum no koj mus kawm ua ab tsi na yus yog neeg siab muag yus ntsua you tu kheej
Thanks for sharing about doctor field n good story
Since this is affecting your mental health, it's best that you change your career. You can't be forcing yourself to do something that you have no motivation doing. Good luck to you and I hope that you do what you love and make you happy and that you're not just doing it for your dad. Bc your dad will never understand what you're going through.
I agree with you. I work with a lot of doctor. People think that doctor is a robot and no pain, no feeling, but actually doctor have more stress and depress than anyone else. 3 of my doc have heart bypassed due to a lot of stress. One of our lovely patients die my doctor and I hurt a lot.
You should follow your heart.
Why meet your parents wants? Our Asian parents that’s all they wants for their children, but is you have to take depression’s med and also it’s not your passion to practice then NO need to do it.
As a mother, I would never ask my children to seek a career to me make me happy. Life is indeed to short so they need to find what makes them happy.
Asian parents only want bragging rights. 🙄🙄
Hmong parents are all about image.
Tus brother do what makes you happy and gives you peace. Your father is selfish and I hope he will understand you someday. Best wishes to you
I was thinking medical malpractice is more scarier than ghosts.
You can become a teacher.
Wow. Thank you for sharing your story, brother.
Doc, I'm a nurse but outpatient setting and I cannot relate. I say don't give up. I think you just need to have a big hear...siab loj and look it as your have a psych ability that you able to see and communicate with the dead or those who is going to die.
I already have goosebumps!
Great story!! Thank you for sharing.
Mus thov neeg pab khaws ceeb thiab mas ♥

Wow, interesting. I am not a doctor but love to listen to the story. I believe doctors are good people. If I have a chance, i like to be a pediatrician. Wish you well.
Wow, good story for others to have different views on being a Surgeon or doctor. Sounds like this is not the right career for you. Is best you find something else to do before you destroy your own self. For me, I knew I will not be able to see dead bodies and cut people's bodies for surgery etc, so I never consider studying that field. Best wishes to you brother.
You must love your dad more than yourself and anything else, you can die for him but your dad is not your life,
Yog koj siab tsi loj ces kawm lwm yam ma
Don’t listen to your father. Make your own decision and choose different path
Cas koj txiv yuav ntshaw nyiaj ua luaj thiab
Maybe being a Surgeon is not for you. You should be a doctor because that’s who you want to be and not because it’s for your Father.
Right! Agree. Honestly I wouldn't want a surgeon who is that afraid or have that much anxiety every time if needed to have surgery. People go to these people because they need the help and if you can't, maybe not the profession for you.
Don't have to be a surgeon at a hospital. Just be a family physician working for a small clinic. Less stress for you there.
yes it's very true and the biggest problem is they have a high divorce rate among doctors because they're not with their significant others...
i wanted my son to pursued his medical doctor degree too, but my son said, '' no dad, i don't want to end up like most of my colleagues that are doctors... he has 5 friend and 4 are divorced and the fifth is on bad term...
only hmong people appraised and adamant to hold on to that husband for his title... we as parent don't force your kids to pursue your dream, but let him pursue his own dreams not yours.
You are full fledge surgeon. You can rest for a couple of years and transition into outpatient clinics. you don't have to work in a hospital.
Koj mus kawm muab tshuaj kuv xav tias yuav yog ib qhov zoo rau koj os tij
It's so sad that we as children suppress our own health and well being because we want our parents to be happy. I know you were just trying to live your parents dreams but your father is selfish for not caring about your health and well being. Its you who suffer and do not enjoy your life. So what makes you happy and what you can handle.
👍💪💪❤
