Game one shows why all the top PT decklists cut Thassa's Oracle, so you can instead win via complicated endurance loops with Sylvan Safekeeper and Otawara, Soaring City.
@@benjaminsouthworth5698 After you draw your deck, sacrifice all your lands with sylvan safekeeper (except maybe for yavimaya) and cast or evoke an endurance so that your graveyard becomes your library. Then, since almost your entire library is lands, you can repeat this to get an absurd amount of insects and mana. This truly goes infinite once your entire library is filled with exclusively lands and you bestow a springheart nantuko onto you endurance so that you can make copies of endurance whenever you want. Then, you have infinite mana, and can draw your deck as many times as you want, so each time you draw your deck, you use boseju or otowara on one of the opponents permanents. The result of this is that you bounce all of their creatures, destroy all their non-creature non-basic land permanents, and leave them only with the basic lands from boseju. Since you also get to do this loop at instant speed with bristly bill or outriders en kor, there is almost no scenario in which you don't win
@benjaminsouthworth5698 basically u stack it so endurance dies first so u are putting ottawara, other lands and itself back into your deck so your infinite Nadu triggers giving u infinite ottawara and boseju triggers so your opponent basically no lands left and everything else is bounced back to the hand. Mtggoldfish did a video of Nadu vs hogaak that did a good job showing it and explaining it if u find my explanation confusing.
@@benjaminsouthworth5698it’s extremely weird. You can functionally create infinite mana by sacrificing your lands to sylvan safekeeper and then shuffling them back in with endurance (bestowed with Nantuko to make copies of it), then you can do a complicated setup with Horizon Canopy/Waterlogged Grove *drawing* the Boseiju and Otawara to bounce/destroy all your opponents’ permanents (some of the Top 8 decks also played Wall of Roots to draw), and endurance yourself again to make sure you still have cards in library to not deck yourself. This is not worth trying to do on Magic Online, you will lose to the clock if your opponent makes you play it out without Thassa’s Oracle. But in paper it’s technically better to not play thoracle.
Congrats to the 20k. You both really deserve it, I truly like the style of the games and videos with all the explanations midgame. At least for me it created more interest in the formats again. Also it was a pleasure to meet you personally in Amsterdam Mengu :)
Since I didn't see it, no, Sheoldred does not trugger from the T3feri -3, as she is out of play before the draw occurs. Very clean play from both sides, I always enjoy this content, regardless of format!
Yep if it was worded in the opposite order like "draw a card, return a permanent" you would take damage. But it happens in the order you read it so it's bounced then draw a card.
Been loving the paper magic videos especially the modern videos! Im new to Modern and I've been binge watching the murktide sunday veedeos :D Would love to see you play murktide in paper!
I love this channel! If you guys want to do more pro tour best decks I would love that! The idea of a gauntlet would be cool too! Seeing hogak vs Eldrazi vs splinter twin
@kornkobb420 Necrodominance's replacement effect still applies when it's being destroyed. It's just like blowing up a Rest in Peace, it goes into exile.
Great video! I was laughing when you ran out of insect tokens 😂 The editing showing cards in hand is really awesome! But instead of the "404" graphic when the hand is unknown/large it might be better just to hide the graphic. It might be less distracting that way. Though I guess then it would look like there's no cards in hand 😅 maybe there's no good solution..
OP is fun tho... And I play Dimir Death shadow not very OP at all but still very fun.. Trying out mockingbird in the deck has been pretty good. But I do like the wildnees of Nadu and necro too lol. MTG is just a fun game. Modern 4eva.
I love mh sets because of the brewing potential, but a bunch of people seem to hate them. maybe you guys can do a mh-less modern video to give these people a starting point to play mh-less modern? Plus, it sounds like a fun brewing video!
It's because MH throws in a bunch of obviously broken cards that just need to be put into a shell. It's cool to have brewers cards, but Nadu isn't one. Nadu is a binary card, either its broken or its not worth playing.
In game 1, tommi main phased boseiju on necro and Andrea drew the second necro in his draw step- he shouldve waited until andreas turn, as necro makes him skip his draw step
Modern was once my favourite format back in 2012/2013. But man, WotC's continueos push for selling more and more packs really makes me glad that i mostly play limited/cube these days.
Game one could've bisejou in opponent main phase so they skip their draw step (Andrea drew necro a turn earlier because of this) I don't know if it would've changed the outcome but something for people to keep in mind.
Not trying to criticize tommi but it's like lightning bolt tarmogoyf moments that once you see and realize you don't make it again
@abusus75 there's always pioneer or pre-modern... or Standard. Or Vintage. Vintage technically has MH cards but it also just has way more powerful stuff.
its the way the creator of modern wanted it to go, and i personally like it. But if you don't, what's stopping you from playing old school modern or even just modern without mh3 sets? I'm sure this sentiment is popular enough you could get a decent amount of people to play it with you
Tells you to swap grave and exile Immediately starts pitching cards to the graveyard for Soul Spike multiple times. Switching grave and exile is a good idea in theory, doesn't seem to reduce confusion in practice...
Non deterministic combo wincons are always banworthy even if they aren't that dominant, they're just way too miserable to play against. Nadu just happens to be broken too.
4:40 - you can boseiju the necrodominance here prior to draw step, but you will give mengu another mana with the boseiju fetch (you can't do it during draw step because, well, that step is skipped, and the last possible time before you would get to the end step is the postcombat main phase, which means mengu still gets to use the mana) I agree I think boseiju but letting them skip the draw step is probably best
Mengu I will always watch your videos because they’re incredible but modern - and formats using mh3 cards in general - are just so unexciting to watch at this point. Can we see more pauper or premodern or vintage? Even pioneer is more enjoyable.
everyone is sleeping on the actual best deck in modern, who wants to play with Tucan Sam whos been on a drug Binge???? Step away from the bird and join me in playing some Izzet Prowess, the eternal best deck of modern, deck never stops getting better lol that's the joy of being in the best 2 colors in MTG. Silliness aside its actually very well positioned right now and and it has some really good hate cards for the meta decks, and a fast clock to get under the slower eldrazi n tron stuff
This right here just shows one of the core reasons why Nadu needs to be banned. With a clearly HUGE speedup, the combo still took almost 5 minutes to pull off. This easily would have been 10+ minutes in real time. There's no reason any deck should have a 10+ minute turn.
modern now a days is insane. having to cheat card advantage like that in starting turn 3 is too early. in old days they banned cards because magic is supposed to be turn 3 format and if you can win consistently in turn 3 that card will get banned. but even if these cards wont get you auto win in turn 3, it feels like it once its on the battlefield.
I never pictured myself cheering for the scam deck. But here we are. Great video!
