Fred was a great guy! We used to go out of our way to watch him. He definitely brought alot of people into our sport! I was 13 at the time this showed aired
That was great. I love these old programs. They showed hunting as it really is. Now a days I feel like sometimes it's just too much Hollywood type productions.
We hear you...he was a Thursday night staple in our house up here in Ontario. He's never really gone if you find a way to remember him..like these moments in time.
I have a turkey call signed by your father. me and my father always enjoyed his show we would watch when i was growing up in houghton lake michigan. very cool video
Thanks for posting this Zach! Our family never missed an episode, your dad was a great host! You were only two years ahead of me, my first opener was in 1985, first 6 point buck was in 1986 near Irons, MI! Those were the days!
It does bring mixed emotions, some are sad, some are angry, some are good, some are other. Fortunately the Good far outweighs the bad and that allows me to be able to post these and move on. :)
Used to hunt up in this area when I was younger, we'd go up to an old family friend's cabin. Some beautiful area up there........I just visited our old friend in February, he gave me all the guns he still had. He figures he's done hunting.......Sad seeing people from your youth getting near the end of their life.
i believe 42 hunters per square mile. about this time someone reported in one of the national sports magazines that gladwin-houghton lake was the place to go. i hunted in gladwin for years and when i got to my parking spot i counted 19 vehicles. i didn't hunt and drove to the U.P. for the next 10 years just to get away from people. first days back then sounded like ww2 all around you.
I hunted Houghton Lake for a couple years in the 80's. I told my father the same thing. I could bot believe the number of hunters near me I could see come sun up.
Zack by any chance do you remember where what part of Houghton Lake you were in and what state land you were on do you remember the roads you were on thanks Jamie
Now it's one Hunter per square mile so sad cuz it's so much fun up there like I said I heard a total of 5 shots on opening day one was me and one was my buddy

Yes I am still in the area, just outside Bath. I am guessing you hunt about Rose Lake Area.
This was the day I was born. My dad wasn't using his "right" head on valentines day. hahaha

42 per square mile?..screw that
It is an experience for sure.
Houghton Lake is not Lake Michigan it would be Lake Huron get your Lakes right
