Man, I clicked like before it ever started. The entire "Breakfast in America" album is a freakin masterpiece. Smokey got it, the song is about being a kid then you get sent to school to be transformed. Rodgers Hodgson is a genius & his vocals are so dang good. Hope y'all do some more of them.

Yes, it is a masterpiece, and the entire album is awesome, but "Take The Long Way Home" holds a special place in my heart. I was in my early twenties when that album came out and now, at the age of 66, that song especially resonates with me. You simply can't go wrong with Supertramp, just like you can't go wrong with Cheap Trick.

Roger Hodgeson is one of two vocalists on Supertramp, and yes his voice is similar to Geddy Lee's, but IMHO a bit more refined. Supertramp is usually labeled as a progressive rock band, and they are from the UK.

My favorites out of all their great music is #1 The Logical Song, #2 The Long Way Home, & #3 Goodbye Stranger.
What I always took from this song was that it was about the loss of childhood innocence. When you are little, the world is new & magical. Everything is full of joy & wonder. But then you start to grow up, go to school where you learn from adults (& other kids) how to look at your world through different eyes. As you continue to mature, you become part of society & are expected to act, think, & say things a certain way. But deep down you are still an independent person with dreams, creative imagination, & opinions that might go "against the grain" of what you were taught and how others think. It's a song of trying to understand yourself & wanting to break free of conformity instead of being "just another brick in the wall" (as Pink Floyd said). The voices are amazing, but that saxophone is on FIRE! Music from the 70's & 80's & a little bit from the 90's is the only thing I listen to.

So many great songs. They are in the prog rock realm. Hugely popular in the late 70'/early 80's. The Breakfast in America album was big and a lot of their songs, like the Logical Song were constantly on the radio. They do have a diverse menu of songs and albums to explore. They were not only great musicians, but their lyrics always meant something. Maybe do Good-Bye Stranger , Take the Long Way Home or Give A Little Bit to name a few. Crime of the Century was their epic concept album and should be listened to from start to finish to get the most out of it. But individual songs like Rudy, Dreamer, School are cool solo too. They had a reputation of putting on great concerts and could play all their songs like studio versions. The Logical Song is about Rodger Hodgson's experience when his parents sent him to Boarding School.

Track 2 from their 6th album, '79s Breakfast in America. I could agree that Geddy Lee and Roger Hodgson are similar in pitch, timbre, register, what have you. I can't agree that the two voices are identical.
In a 2012 interview, Roger said "I think it was very relevant when I wrote it, and actually I think it's even more relevant today. It's very basically saying that what they teach us in schools is all very fine, but what about what they don't teach us in schools that creates so much confusion in our being. I mean, they don't really prepare us for life in terms of teaching us who we are on the inside. They teach us how to function on the outside and to be very intellectual, but they don't tell us how to act with our intuition or our heart or really give us a real plausible explanation of what life's about. There's a huge hole in the education. I remember leaving school at 19, I was totally confused. That song really came out of my confusion, which came down to a basic question: please tell me who I am. I felt very lost. I had to educate myself in that way, and that's why California was very good for me to kind of re-educate myself, if you like.
But it's interesting that that song, I hear it all the time, it's quoted in schools so much. I've been told it's the most-quoted song in school. That may be because it has so many words in it that people like to spell. But I think it also poses that question, and maybe stimulates something with students. I hope so."
Also gotta get to School, Bloody Well Right, and Goodbye Stranger

I think many people currently in their 40s were introduced this song in Simpsons episode I Married Marge where Homer is reminiscing his youth, first aired in December 1991. The song came out in March 1979.

Supertramp had their own unmistakable sound, a one of a kind band like Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Jethro Tull. Check out the album Crime Of The Century

Supertramp has been my favorite group since the late 1970s. In my opinion their best album is Crime of the Century, followed by Even in the Quietest Moments, and Breakfast in America. Please react to Goodbye Stranger, Rudy, and Fool's Overture.

One of those classic rock radio songs that I never knew the name of 😆
My car does indeed have a CD player, and it’s a 2019 so… not that old. I do have a cd in it, too- Stankonia 😊

'Live in Paris' is a true masterpiece imo. I was 9 in 1979 and a Supertramp-fanatic. It's the first band that I saw live: 1983 in Belgium, AND still with Roger Hodgson!

Sorry, I have never thought of Supertramp singer/keyboardist/guitarist Roger Hodgson and Geddy Lee sounding alike. Supertramp has always been my favourite band since I first heard their all-time classic album Crime of the Century (1974) when I was about 12 in 1975.
Listen to anything off their run of 5!! classic LPs in succession starting with Crime of the Century and followed by Crisis? What Crisis? (1975), Even In the Quietest Moments (1977), Breakfast In America (1979) and Famous Last Words (1982).
Next with Supertramp try Goodbye Stranger, School, Bloody Well Right, Dreamer, Give A Little Bit, Sister Moonshine and Take The Long Way Home.

Master Musicians 🔥❤️ (1979) started as a prog rock band and morphed into prog pop.
Rick Davies did have a high register like Geddy Lee. Check out “Bloody Well Right” on 1974 album (Crime of the Century) for a lower register song ❤️🔥🎸
He was sent away to boarding school ! (10yrs)
