Gonna be honest, the way Byleth behaved in 3 Houses was something constantly mentioned during White Clouds. It really wasn't soley because "They're the main character, so they must be a husk" They're called the "Ashen Demon" because of their behavior, which was mentioned in the Hanneman-Byleth C support. With how they're a half-humonculus without a functioning heart being raised as a mercenary by Jeralt, their father, who isn't too emotional himself, you see why they act that way. And as for the students, a bunch of them were honestly indifferent to Byleth, some even going as far as to say they felt unnerved by Byleth or straight up threatened them *looks at Huburt, Sylvain and Yuri* Like Dimitri straight up believed Byleth to have no humanity at one point and Claude would poke fun at Byleth's stone cold face and wonder if they even care. Edelgard straight up calls them detached in their A support.
And youre right, but theres something about actually confronting those personality traits OUTSIDE of being Byleth that makes them so much more interesting to me Like yea they do point it out in Three Houses but it feels less like personality traits and more like an excuse to keep your character quiet
@@Fibless I suppose I kind of disagree with you on that last bit there, but I do definitely think Byleth as a character probably would have come across better to many others more clearly if they were initially fully voiced instead of having to wait 3 years for the stuff about them that was somewhat textual to be put it in the forefront
Characterization of Byleth in the first game is just very inconsistent. They’re quiet and detached but also so caring and kind every character blasts out their trauma to them but also apparently can keep the class together by themselves and also cure Marianne’s depression and also… yeah just doesn’t work cohesively without a MC that talks.
I love how terrifying Byleth becomes the second they aren't the perspective character, and also I love the idea of Lorenz innocently patronizing the player about how they can't talk xD
Y'know I never really thought about the fact that Shez decides to fight the person that just killed the captain that nobody including him could beat It is perfectly in character though
Just beat my first route; Azure Gleam a couple weeks ago. And man it was awesome. Espically all the new bits of lore we got, as well as seeing characters that were only mentioned in 3Houses. Now that I'm doing my fe3h maddeming route, it's cool that I know what some of the character's relatives really look like. Also I'm not sure how far you're into the game, so I'm interested too see what you think of this Byleth by the end. Ps, The ashen wolves are peak fe design and I will BOLTING anyone who disagrees.
Engage looks SOOOO good, definitely want to talk about all the stuff that keeps coming out but I be too slow with making videos to keep up with that game XD

As much as I love them for how I perceive them, as a whole they are definitely a lot of empty space. Really wished they did dialog prompts that Shez got for Byleth in 3 Houses which would of at least made people be able to infer things about them as a character.
Bylad and Bylass is the best way I've seen someone differenciate the 2 of them, also fair enough, hot mercenary dude stays hot post-stepping on. I respect it Also yea they were a lot of empty space, couldve benefitted a lot from treating them the way they treat Shez in this game
I did not play it as im not a fan of the dynasty warrier style games. And i didnt have much faith in intelligence systems ability to story after fates and the three houses dlc. But im also more than happy to listen to someone else play through it.
Honestly fair, not everyones cup of tea especially since its so different from the normal gameplay But glad you stuck aroubd to watch anyway, much appreciated
