I think mine was an 80 turbo. It could not move out of its own way. My girlfriend at the time drove it. I had the 72 formula and 79 formula with 4sp. This car had a nice ride. I did not mess with this engine. I build there others. They had so much crap on this motor. Great video.
Thanks for the Great videos on my favourite cars.. Interesting….. not to do anything related to trouble shooting the boost light. But I think a leaf blower produces more boost than the tiny non intercooler turbo system lol. Best bet drop a Pontiac 350 or 400 and reinstall the turbo exhaust manifolds. Redo the exhaust plumbing, throw on a aftermarket TBI with a real turbo and intercooler. Now we’re talking power. Those 301 cylinder heads are a huge weak point.😊
I think the shaker hood is way cooler ! I never really liked the turbo hood because the way the turbo was set up in these cars , it wasn’t very efficient and if the car was fuel injected and had a modern set up with the turbo the car should have made way more power. My uncle had a 80’s trans am with the 4.9 non turbo and the shaker hood and it made only 140 hp with reg L37 or 155 hp with the W72 L37 TQ was the same 240 flbs on both 4.9 engine set ups. It’s crazy that you can get a Honda Civic that makes 224 hp on a dyno and with a tune will make 294 hp and that’s a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine .
Great info! Gorgeous car! Looks like the tach and clock are both busted. Being kinda wrapped up in one unit, is it the gauge internals that likely need repair or replacement? He'd be better off with your boost gauge in place of the clock, but maybe he wants to keep it all original.

Those engines are just ridiculously complicated. I would rip out that archaic system and install an led boost gage in its place.
