Great informative video! As a casual player who was addicted to this game as a child I LOVE that titans can traverse water now. I always played on island maps and titans were such a disappointment on those
The only thing i don't like so far is the new voice acting in the campaign. I hope they give us the choice to have old voice acting as an option along with the new.
Yeah, really feels like they kinda rushed the job on the VAs. Once we start hitting Troy they start getting better, as if they're learning their roles as they're voicing them. I like the idea of having actually Greek accents for the Greeks... but they needed some more time in the oven on these ones.
So many of these changes are amazing ideas id never have thought of. Im so impressed, this just seems to be better than the original in every way (and i love the original)
You have no idea (okay, u prolly do) how little in-depth explanations there are for this game, and with such a barebones info tab on the actual game it's so damn hard to keep track of things This and your second video are super useful for me getting back in after pver a decade. Massive thanks!
If done properly this can mean that your pharaoh can be at the front of your base to help fight myth units, while still empowering your granary at the back of your base between fights. Then when the fight gets too much, it can drop back, empower the granary directly and still empower your forward military buildings and towers.
Hey, thank you so much for this! 😃 It's crazy how much has changed - though mostly for the better i would say. Early game godpowers being more useful, myth units getting stronger after aging up, Greek heros no longer slowing down villager production... I knew some things would be different in Retold (like myth unit abilities being manually controlable) but i didn't know to what extend. Anubites being able to - manually controlled - jump over a wall or maybe even a cliff and then raid the enemy eco... It's wild. Damn i'm even more excited for release than i already was. This is a great video, hope to see more! 😄 Cheers.

i was 5 years old when this game first came out, and i used to watch my dad playing and later on play it myself. i consider my memories of this game as core memories. it's basically the pinnacle of my gaming passion. thanks for the informative video! we will be getting it :)

The changes I've discovered from watching other TH-camrs is that I don't like the new voices in the SP campaign 😂 Other than that, everything looks great! Thanks for covering the changes, which seems like really good changes, unlike the voices lol
Great showcase of all the changes discussed, I'm subscribing to watch your next video! If I may suggest a couple things, for this kind of overview, timestamps are definitely a good QoL feature, perhaps also on screen titles for each chapter or point being discussed.

Even tho I love that game ever since it came out at the time, and this version too, and that I love that there are so many little things to learn.. Damn it's way too many things to learn from THE INTERNET ! How are you suppose to lean all that in game? Oo By spamming every single unit in every single situation until you know everything? It's too much, man >< I'm all for the hard to master kind of games, ALL for it, but it should be at least a little obvious. For example, in Warcraft 3, some units have hidden passives which you cannot know until you look into the game code. I mean WTF
This game will absolutely appeal to new casual players. There are game modes and mods made especially for those players, and the campaigns are a tonne of fun!
my main dislike with orignal was the hotkeys. age 2 now has much better ones every building and unit is standard qwerty hotkeys and looking at this shes managed to get it same as age which is great!
Wowowow this video out of all other videos makes me want to give it another shot I played the stress test yesterday and I was upset because it felt Like a copy and paste of age of empires 3 definitive which was horrible
does the 3 Pharao trick still work? i used to work by making your first (and only) Pharao into a Son of Osiris this would then re-spawn a new Pharao you could then AFTERWARDS research the "2-Pharao-tech" this would give you a second Pharao, which combined with your Son of Osiris would effectively give you 3 Pharaos
Hey! This tech is called 'New Kingdom' and yes, this still works. You do not need to wait for your Pharaoh to re-spawn to research the tech in order to get two Pharaohs. Your Son of Osiris is no longer counted as a Pharaoh, so picking up the tech will always ensure you spawn 2 Pharaohs.

Very exhaustive video, thank you very much! One question: do Hades and Poseidon still have no access to Hera? I always found it extremely bothersome that of all the minor god symmetries, the greek mythic age were asymmetrical.
Correct, Hera is still only for Zeus - I guess because they are married :p The Norse mythical age is also asymmetrical, with only Loki having access to Hel.
Some of these changes were much needed. Some things they updated where much needed. I understand some don’t like it, and maybe think it lost some realism to it. But.. This is the closest we will get to AOM 2 this feels different enough to keep me going and playing with my friends to have a great time. Just like you, I am a long time player used to play competitively, but then adult life happened. How do you feel about all the changes? The water system I love, I kinda don’t understand why they changed one gods name.. it also does seem a bit cartoony but I can easily overlook that. Can’t wait for the official release.

I'm looking forward to the full release and to the new metas that will evolve

TITANS CAN WALK ON WATER, POG. Why Berserker instead of Ulfsark, though? In my humble opinion Ulfsark, as a name, had its own charm and Berserker is kinda generic, no?
Many of the changes to the gameplay, QoL and graphics have overall been a net positive. But the campaign, the voice acting in particular, leaves a LOT to be desired I genuinely can't tell if the new voices are placeholders, AI generated or if they are close to the final version because they sound.so.FLAT!!! The accents are totally fine, even appreciated, but the actors take these unnaturally long pauses between certain lines, lines that used to be read as intentionally sarcastic, joking, angry etc. are now being played completely straight and it just makes it all sound much more boring. Sure, the cheesiness is gone, but not only did that add to the charm, it was *memorable* From what I've heard thus far, Ajax and Agamemnon are the best. Because you can tell, like the original VAs, they are having a TON of fun playing these braggadocious/overconfident characters. Arkantos is "fine" The voice actor does a good enough job with what direction he's being given, but I feel like he might have been misscast alltogether. As he sounds almost too young to play an admiral on the cusp of retirement and he doesn't really give off the same confidence the original does. As tongue-and-cheek as it was sometimes. Athena almost sounds bored. She doesn't give off the same quiet wisdom as the original. She does do a soft, whispery voice similar to the original briefly which shows that she CAN emulate it but isn't being directed to. Said soft voice just gave the original that mysterious aura, as if Arkantos really was talking to a godly being and one who knows much more than what she is allowed to say. And Kamos, oh man, they did him dirty cause he sounds AWFUL! He genuinely sounds goofy, like a saturday morning cartoon villain; whereas the original sounded kind of intimidating and more akin to what you'd expect from a freaking Minotaur. This SERIOUSLY makes me worried about what they did to Amanra, Kemsyt, Gargarensis, Adult Kastor and ,of course, the hillarious General Malegious. Really hope they didn't change much of the campaign so that we can freely switch back to the old voices. And if there aren't any changes, that does make me wonder, why change the voices *at all?*
The building you can place everywhere is a village centre. Village centres are weaker and offer no attack unless units are garrisoned inside of it, think the regular town centre in AOE4 but without any attack whatsoever and you basically have your village centre (they also provide no pop as covered in the video). Meanwhile Town Centres provide population, have a baseline attack (that is additive the more people you have in there) and they train and research much faster. Town Centres can only be placed on settlements just like in the original. The only thing these two buildings share that aren’t different is their icon and building hotkey.
is it me or did they nerf lazor-croc damage to buildings? i remember using a bunch of them to take down buildings but their siege damage seems weak now. maybe i'm remembering wrong.
@@donderstorm1845 TBF, they were Myth units, so they were better than an equivalent amount of archers etc, they just weren't good by the standards of Myth units at killing buildings.
Sothing that you did not say and non of the videos i have seen uses is scouts now you dont need to spam the map whit him there exist a button that makes him scouth autmatick

WHAT DO YOU MEAN VILLAGE CENTER!?!?!? I have played the beta, I have watched multiple videos on the beta, this is THE FIRST ONE to mention village centers.
Egyptians are a bit too strong, and that's as an Egyptian main... but man, Set. Set is just way too strong and I really hope they address it after the beta. Shifting Sands is way too powerful to have a cooldown and cost as low as it is, and Set also being able to train units for 25% cheaper while also producing 2 for 1 via Osiris is just wild, and extremely imbalanced.
i don't like the voice acting and also i don't like the new god cards. I really wish them to just upgrade them visually, not remastering them... Like Bastet who looks like a real god, her new card looks like a domestic cat :V

You can also chain empower with ra monuments. Empowering one while other is in range also activates that one.

Egyptians are a bit too strong, and that's as an Egyptian main... but man, Set.
Set is just way too strong and I really hope they address it after the beta.
Shifting Sands is way too powerful to have a cooldown and cost as low as it is, and Set also being able to train units for 25% cheaper while also producing 2 for 1 via Osiris is just wild, and extremely imbalanced.

i don't like the voice acting and also i don't like the new god cards. I really wish them to just upgrade them visually, not remastering them... Like Bastet who looks like a real god, her new card looks like a domestic cat :V
There will be dlc to have old gods portraits which will be upscaled, or you will have immediately those upscaled portraits if you buy premium edition.
