I love the Mega Drive but I must admit that the improvement between the NES and the SNES is more impressive than the improvement between the Master System and the Mega Drive
Oh yeah absolutely. I think in large part it's because Nintendo released the Famicom the same day that Sega released the SG-1000. Sega had the Master System in between whereas the NES went straight to the SNES.
Sega went on to Genesis pretty early in the Master systems lifetime. I think that move made Nintendo have to step up their game and other console developers and also sped up the console wars with more powerful graphics and sound processors. But, master system clearly had better specs than NES and coulda went longer but Sega wanted to release Genesis fast
The SMS was like the missing link between the NES and PC Engine. It looked fantastic for its time and had this sold better in North America I bet they would have held off on the Genesis a bit longer.
Why does Mortal Kombat on SEGA Master System get worse with each entry? It's still impressive that MK was released on SMS. I thought RoboCop 3 was only released on NES.
8bit vs 16bit? its madness to compare to even compare them, but when we do, we see that some games likedessert strikes, battledtoads, hook, hulk, james pond, jungle book, krysty's fun house, lemings, micro machines, robocop, sensible soccer, shadow of the beast, super kick off, super off road, terminator 2, world cup usa, zool look nice on the master system, and can hold their own, they even look like same gen consoles games.
I love seeing the difference between generations and this one in particular is pretty wild since the SMS was a beast of a console for its time. The fact there's so many games that you mentioned that can hold their own against the SNES (and Genesis for that matter) is a testament to how good the system was.
@@Corsa15DT Zool really does look like a 16 bit game. Though it's not in this video, if you get a chance check out Road Rash. It doesn't play as well as the Genesis port but it looks so good.
@@RetroComparisons driving simulations are a nightmare on any 8/16 but systems, even the mighty Amiga sux at almost all the driving simulators. I'm gonna name Outrun as an excellent port for the Master System
Even if you dont care about graphics, the SNES has more fun games and better games overall than most of SEGA's library. But strangely that superiority would only survive for two consoles. The next 6 nintento consoles would somehow be inferior to the competition and nintendo would never again be the king. So weird. But as an 80's kid and a 90's teen, we had a fuckload of fun. SNES had more fun games mainly because the SMS was discontinued by that time. It was a low performing (not performance) system. Games from its era was janky.
During the peak of the console war between the SNES & Genesis both companies were putting out incredible games at a fast rate. What a fun time to be a gamer.
@@user-ik6mp1hj6n Thats two. You came up with two, and could not come up with any more and said "etc". Mario is better than Sonic, and the Sega line never had an equivalent to Zelda or Metroid or Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior.
