Thank you for finding a safer place for the turtle. I was reading that a snapping turtle can stay under water for 50-60 minutes at a time before they have to surface for air. Enjoy the day.
Had a golden retriever named chance when I was 12. 47 now, and we had a small pond on 13 acres. We were at the pond one day fishing when suddenly chance started screaming and trying to run, but kept falling on his face. Alligator snapping turtle bit straight through his leg, severing it instantly. When my dad found his paw, he tried to retrieve it out of the pond bank and as soon as he reached for it, he about lost his hand. But we basically did the same thing you did. Thank you for caring.
I'm definitely glad you decided to relocate it!! Also snapping turtles do not lay their eggs in the water, they come out of the water and lay them on dry land.
Make sure you check the pigs pond every now and again. Could be another turtle in there. Also you could put wire on the bottom of the pigs pen and it might help to keep others out.
Love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you and your family and the animals. The turtle must go that type can hurt you
When my Grandpa use to come across those alligator snappers, he'd catch them and put them in a tote of fresh water for awhile, then make soup out of them.
Better safe than sorry, vet treatments are also not cheap. Snapping turtles do have a strong bite and could cause injuries very easily Only issue at that pond maybe too rocky bottom, as they like a muddy base to dig into for safe living space. Hope if it moves out there is a creek nearby to relocate to or he may come right back to the pig pond. Another problem may be if it digs its tunnel into that pond dam wall, possibly draining the pond.
What did I hear you say? Next up Dutch eats Snapper Soup. J/k I know that channel changed. Don’t be surprised if he/she returns. Glad you got him out for the animals sake. 👍
❤that you safely moved that turtle to a much better pond for it and affording a safer wallow/pond for the pigs and other animals. Hope things go well at the Oaki Homestead Event this weekend and that everyone has a great time!!! God bless! 🐢👏👏
Way to go Sean so glad you moved him watch for more I. That pond hopefully not a female that has hatched eggs very proud you relocated it. Hopefully it will find a mud bed to hide in.
I learned respect for the big turtles in the river I grew up on in NE Arkansas. Hated it when they would get on the trot lines. I won't TMI you all on what would happen to them when we did frequently catch them. So relieved that you got him out of the pig's wallow. I was worried about him harming the animals or girls that might have gotten a nasty bite from him. They are known to carry salmonella and other bacteria. So wash that cart out!
Hi Sean, that was pretty cool, watching you locate the huge snapping g Turtle, and relocating him to a bigger pond. That was almost as tricky as wrangling Cattle.
Glad that you have found the turtle and you got it out of the poñd , That is good that he is in a good place for him to live and make a family 😁 Thank you for your help for him 😊 God bless the family 💝🙏🙏🙏
That snapping turtle was really angry at you, Sean. He/she will live a good life at the pond. Glad that you gave him a great area live. Thank you for sharing the turtle relocation with us. I hope you all enjoy the Okie Homestead 2024.❤
Not on purpose being sarcastic - but I am - good thing you have nothing else to do with the time to do this! It would have been best if you moved the turtle when you first found it. I am a big fan of turtles - but not when they live in a water environment that any of your animals can venture into. This big one deserves a great home where it can live for many more years. I will end with a big thank you and congratulations for doing this.
@@katherineleonowski7289there’s snapping turtles in almost all creeks. I played in creeks as a kid and came across many throughout the years, mostly small ones but 2 huge ones. Got to teach kids about dangers in playing in creeks and ponds and what to not touch. Simple!
I'm glad you got him, he'll be better off, and he won't be getting any ham hocks, or puppy paws, they can get really nasty, I know you're putting them in your other pond, people don't realize in creeks they can get far away, but in the little pond that piggies love to roll in, might be a whole different senerio. I lifted a 40 lb one off the road once, a truck flipped him over and both my daughter and I love turtles, I'm glad he was dazed for a bit after seeing how yours acted, God bless yas, wishing you all the blessed time at the oakie homestead hook up
Really glad you found and relocated the huge snapping turtle. Learned about your channel through Arms family homestead. I wish we could live there too! Keep up the interesting content.👍🏻😀
The turtle is a good size for making turtle soup, or kabobs on the grill and you can also fry it in small chunks. But I ain’t eating it as it takes forever to butcher. 😂😂 Lol,Really I am glad you moved it now if it will stay there or come back to the pigs pond. We all can hope it will stay where you put it,So keep on keeping on God Bless Love y’all 👵🏻👵🏻
Dutch this is awesome and a great new location we have watched you build as soon as you got there at your property. I cant wait to see your videos from Olie Homestead meet up. Thank You
Thanks for doing this Dutch. I'm amazed these turtles can hold their breath under water for so long. I just looked it up. Snappers can breathe through their butt for up to 100 days under water during their winter hibernation. I had no idea they could do that. In the summer they can breathe like humans and hold their breath for up to 6 hours. Again, amazing!
Hi Dutch, I think it’s a good idea to get that snapping turtle out of there. I do know someone from years ago that did loose a finger by one of them plus they carry germs. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Dutch you don’t speak very Good turtle language; but Great idea on relocating snapper to bigger pond in the woods. Bless your family and have a Wonderful time at the Okie homesteading expo.
It will more than likely come back if it was born within a mile or so. There more than likely is more. Sorry I would have eliminated it. Turtle soup is great . Tell the girls not to be picking up stray turtles until they know it’s not a snapper. Thanks Dutch !
Thank you for being a true farmer and a watchman over your animals. Thats the most important role a farmer can take. Do what you have to do to keep your animals and your family safe. Snapping turtles are no joke. I think he loves his new home. Have a great weekend at the Okie homestead. Homefully, some day I can also visit. Currently I'm in Kenya and I can't wait to get back to the US. I just hope I can afford it.
Hey Dutch, great job. Well done. I think it was a female, so don't be surprise if you find baby turtles in pig ponds. But I'm so happy you moved it out of there. GB, y'all stay safe & take care.😊
😅 Should a spray painted its back in case it came back then you would know it was his name turtle.. ! I have a funny feeling it's going to come back. !
Thank you for ur utube channel I'm addicted you family is precious and so are you I've learned so much again thank you so much I'm a new subscriber in keller tx
Just play it safe and relocate that turtle. Don't wait for something to happen. I watch Get Swamped on you tube and they show what snapping turtles can do. He may not have done anything yet. But if he gets hungry or angry he may just snap a leg off and they can.
So happy and relieved that you removed the turtle! Now everyone can relax, at least until the next unforeseen event. It’s always something we never expect. I guess that’s life.
I am so glad you relocated the turtle. Now everyone is happy.❤
I know you felt he wouldn’t harm your animals but he could. Better safe than sorry. He will love his new home.

Whew!!! Glad you relocated that turtle. Now the animals are safe again. Thanks Sean!!
Thanks for relocating the turtle
I know.. I can't believe he can put it back in there.
You better keep a look out. Turtles are territorial and he/she might return. They can travel a mile or so.😅
I'm glad you got that turtle when he was that size. You wouldn't want to have it bigger than it is ,& trying to get it moved.😮😊

Praise be to God you relocated the turtle. ❤🙏❤ I'm so thankful no one got bit. It's probably going like it's new location. Thanks.
Thank you Sean for relocating the turtle 🐢. It is a relief to know everyone is safe ...

🙏👍✌️🎏🤠 the turtle is trying to hibernate.
It's coming out of hibernation! It's Spring if you haven't noticed!!
That water is too clear for him. He enjoyed the murky water probably. He may find him/herself back to the murky water.☺️ Good job Dutch!! 🤗
I would call it turtlezilla. 😂 Or turtzilla. I'm glad you found it and relocated it.
Nice one Sean. It should now be called The Godzilla Pond!
😂🙏😂

I’m proud of you relocating the snapping turtle!
It was exciting & You’re very kind.❤🎉😮😢😊
About time you started thinking about your other animals safety.
Yes!
@jonnywagner9255, stop with the nonsense!!!
@lindamaskus5142 nonsense ok your right the animals aren't worth saving
Glad you decided to move the turtle. Hopefully it will stay down at the pond. GOD bless y'all.
Good evening from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your adventures and your farm

It's was great! We don't have turtles like that our way. Pretty big. That was a nice thing to do and I'm sure the turtle will be happy. 😊❤
That turtle will probably find it's way back to the other pond❤
Right on!!! Everyone will be safe and happy now. Hopefully, there's no eggs. God bless❤
Guess i shouldve just watched more videos lol am glad youre rehoming the turtle 😂❤
Good Evening Dutch & Family

Thanks Dutch. Hi to all
I'm still laughing with those stakes you look like a VAMPIRE HUNTER!!! LOL
Me too, he cracks me up!!
Dutch you being very smart to get rid of the snapper
Glad your finding that turtle and removing the nasty thing I had visions of Gunner trying to play with it and getting bite badly on his face.😢😢❤
He is pissed,"you woke me up again !"
Remember Brandi put 2 in that enclosure 😳.
Excellent job Dutch🎉.
JO JO IN VT 💞
Dutch, paint his shell so you can tell if you have more. It could walk back! Especially if there is eggs!
Painting a turtles shell can harm the turtle
Nonsense @@mel924
@@mel924 No it can't, there animal safe paint.

Good deal Sean I’m glad you relocated that thing hopefully stays there an don’t try to move back but if it does turtle soup is pretty good.
Soooo glad you found it and move it to another home😊💜🇱🇷

Turtle will be in heaven now. Got it's own pond! Glad you didn't anything snapped off! Good video!
