I've been traveling with my Quaker for almost 15 years now. First 10 I was a travel nurse and flew a LOT and I quickly learned what Dave has talked about in the video, will say though, I have had MANY more and bigger issues with TSA than any of the airlines combined. On one occasion I thought I was going to end up arrested. 😬 Did you know that the TSA can NOT refuse a private screening request? Until that incident, neither did I. We travel with the very first cage Dave showed, I have added a perch, bowls and spots to hang toys. I have had little to no issues with Alaska Airlines and now that they have expanded to a lot more cities, if my trip is domestic, I fly them exclusively.
@@anaghadalvi9966 sorry, I have not traveled internationally with him. Would definitely look into the needed paperwork to bring him into the US. I was going to be driving from the lower 48, through Canada and into Alaska. I had to do paperwork for both Canada and reentry into the US and it had to be done roughly 2 months before the trip. I didnt have 2 months notice prior to the trip, so, he stayed with my parents☹
When you talked about Linus, your cockatoo, having pieces of luggage and clothing in the carrier, I laughed. It sounds like something from a Seinfeld episode.
I learned how many employees of the airlines training and knowledge is lacking many years ago! Also their power trip bs. Check specific airline in-cabin regulations! Most allow birds in carriers as carry-on in the cabin as Dave said....except COCKATOOS!!! Can you imagine an umbrella cockatoo on a straight flight from LA to New York!?!?

Another great video from You, thank you so much. I am going on my first airline travel with my African Grey, and I've been loosing sleep about my parrot getting stressed, me forgetting something crucial etc. So this video really helped. Small tip: when I researched airlines in Europe who accept "pets" in actuality, a lot of them meant ONLY cats and dogs. So double check what they mean
Hey there, Hope you're doing good. Can you please share your experience with the grey parrot? I'm also looking to bring my grey parrot from Pakistan to the US but the ministry isn't allowing to issue the certificate for God knows what reason. Would like to hear your experience and process details. Thanks! ✨✨
Yet another example of the lack of common sense in today’s world at large. I hate flying on airlines as a human, for other reasons. My little fella likes being in the car, so I’d prefer to go that route. Less stressful for both of us, even with the lack of common sense on the road. But thank you for the tips. I’m sure those who either have no choice or prefer flying will thank you for the in depth review. 😊👍🏼
I plan on taking my quaker parrot I bought in Taiwan with me when I go back to Switzerland, no road for that. I do want to know what I'm getting myself into.

Oh gosh so stressful! Thank you for all the tips and help! Hopefully I won't have to ship birds to another country because there's just so much here to think about!
Love you guys! This is super helpful but honestly I’m going to go camping with my pigeon so that we can free fly out in the Australia bush, problems are predators and recall. Thanks for specifying the cage sizes!

My comment from Your last video with monte and his weird flight dance. 😂 Yes, my cockatiel did that when I first got her. She would also do it if I took her in the shower and if I walked down the stairs with her. I fixed it In about a month. I would turn her to face me and walk forward give her a treat when I got to the other side of the room. I slowly started to turn her to face forward (still walking slow). Then a slowly start walking faster but not to the point where there would be wind. Then I sat down in front of a box fan and put it on the lowest setting. Giving her a treat and turning the fan to medium give her a treat then I stood up with the fan still on her. Once she was good with that I would walk across the room faster with a bit more wind. I would work with her on this about once a day skipping some days. Hope that helped! 💕
Some people use news paper make sure its black and white news paper 25:36 I like to put in the comics so they can read it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 No birds likes reading about food section everyone knows that
Thanks for this video. After I watched it I’ve decided to drive across 3 state with my bird instead of flying. I have to go visit a relative who just announced that she has terminal cancer, and I can’t leave my bird (who is a shoulder bird) while I go out of town to visit her. So I’m going on a road trip with my bird I guess! It will be an adventure. Sounds less horrible than trying to fly and putting him in cargo and potentially losing him. Thanks again
I have shipped several dogs and I must say, this video is spot on! You cover just about everything that can and often will occur. And the personel... Yeah. They are like that all around the world, it seems 🙈😅 So...Great topic! However, I do not ship without a person, preferably myself, on that very plane. I find it is just too risky. Why? Well, I got stuck with a 12 week old puppy at Heathrow during a bomb threat. And was not allowed out of the building for over 24 hours. Nor were we allowed onto any airplane, of course. If I had not been inside the building with the pup, she would have gone missing in that chaos. Undoubtedly. Not only without food and water, but totally alone for way too long. Because no one new was allowed to enter the building during the bomb search either. So, always prepare for worst case scenario. And carry food along, for both you and your pet, to make it for at least two more days, if you get stuck. Another good thing to do if you have a specific vet that you go to, is to ask if they would be ok with you putting their name and phone number on the cage. Because they have the full history of that animal. And if it gets sick, do not presume that the staff will be able to reach you at all times. So if needed, they can then call your vet instead. Or someone else that knows your pet very well, for that matter.
It's best to desensitize the bird to the carrier first so they will be less stressed. If you go by car, short drives before your big trip are great, and a favorite toy secured to the side of the carrier is great. (My budgie destroyed a whole toy on a 14 hour drive, and destriyed another one on the way back lol)
Thank you very much for sharing this with your years of experience. 💞 It was very helpful. I will save and reply, as necessary. In my particular situation, I have not traveled since becoming a macaw owner & trainer. However, I has generated concern that has rumbled in my head for awhile. But during COVID, I didn't reach out to learn about and play for different story line. This "heads up" gives me peace of mind that professionals are able to share tips and ideas for trouble shooting. Thank you again. I appreciate the great service you provide for bird lovers!
Would like to see something that can already be made for them to ship, so many things, eek Dave, I was getting stessed out watching this, I don't think they make a ready to fly(on planes) carrier, wow, Thanks very informative, been wondering bout this, doesn't the water spill ? ♥️♥️
Airlines are on such a power trip now, I definitely am glad you posted this before I flew with my bird. I’ll be prepared to just say no, I’m not flying at all unless I can take him with me inside as carry-on and no, I won’t check him in as cargo. Ever. I’d rather just miss my entire flight than to have my baby checked in as cargo by an uncaring crew of folks who are having a power trip and want to punish me, thanks
I was thinking! There are no like a front human baby carrier for birds? Like a front strap on the front birdcage? I do see this as an issue pulling down your table for eating. LOL! Like, say to the person next to you. Hey, hold this as I eat. LOL!
Thanks for the technical videos like this one and the one on GPS and telemetry Mount. Btw I didn’t miss the joke about using paper with cartoons so the birds have something the read ;)
This obviously wouldn't work with a macaw, but my budgies became experienced travellers. I had to pay 80 bucks fee for the carrier. I used the under seat model that he showed. Nowadays only the center seat reliably has enough space for the carrier, but in the mid noughties I chose the window seat. I screwed a sturdy natural wood perch into one of the side openings, perpendicular to the long side of the carrier. I put a sprig of spray millet and a small dish with a little water in the bottom. I prepared my babies by telling them we were going in a "car that fly like bird!" After the seat belt sign was turned off, I would put them on the tray table and let them look out. Even in bad, bumpy weather flying into Chicago and Santa Fe, the birds were suddenly comfortable once they felt us leave the ground. They would dart side to side, clinging to the perch, as I cooed, "We flyyyyy!" It actually helped me overcome my fear of flying to witness this. The flight attendant brought a snack... I would hear "crunch crunch crunch" from under the seat. The seatbelts sign went on for landing, and they would step up to the perch dutifully as I snapped my belt closed. For security I brought one if those little vet visit cages with a transparent bottom which I would run through the machine, then put the birds in, then the main carrier was run through. My usually unclipped birdies were clipped for the occasion. I also had the flight attendants warn passengers that there would be twittering on the flight, and no wild birds were going to crash the plane. I stopped travelling with them when more of my work became international. Bird Flu made it very complicated in terms of quarantine to fly internationally with birds. Good luck!
Hey, That was a joy to read but I would like to ask a few questions. First of all, are you able to give me a link to the specific or very related cage you got for your birds? Next, like he says in the video, do you have to take them out at the TSA checkpoint, if so how do you hold them? Be as specific as you can be please. Lastly does air travel hurt them? I plan on bringing two budgies on carry-on and I will be flying from Massachusetts to Brasil. How should I rotate the sleep schedule? Have they ever been able to sleep on the plane for your expierence with all the ambience and pilot comms? If you can answer this it would be very much appreciated and I might have more questions related to the cage.
How do I bring a Green cheek conure on a flight from South Carolina to Sacramento? My bird is still a baby and squawks mainly for attention and when she’s scared she repeatedly squawks loudly until I calm her down. I really don’t wanna put her in cargo and my parent might not last 3-4 days in a car. We also have an adult male bearded dragon, can we take them both as a carry on? We might fly Delta.
I was wondering... The person that dislike the video... What was their issue ⚠️? It was a very good video and I was wondering probably their country cannot fly birds
Doesn’t matter ultimately because TH-cam considers a downvote as an interaction in their algorithms, so even someone who downvotes a video is actually doing them a favor.
I was shipped a caique in June and they used a plastic mesh and he had chewed a big hole in it.😂 Because of covid it was a bit of a mess but it all worked out!
I've actually found during Covid they've been a lot more understanding - we had a student need to check their bird in earlier than 4 hours and they actually allowed it whereas in the past they've rarely ever bent the rules!
@@BirdTricks I should have been more clear it was just the mix up of shipping a pet or a bird sale. At the time they would only ship birds for people selling them it was right at the beginning of Covid and everyone was confused. It took 2 weeks to realise they would even send a bird for sale. It was otherwise fine!
I read they allow 2 of the same breed in one carrier if they are small to be counted as 1 pet only. I have 3 budgies I’m looking to fly through Delta so I hope I can have a medium carrier for 2 and a small one for the 3rd. 😢🥺 I’m moving across country and all car rentals are booked SUV size and uhaul is too costly. This is my last resort. I hope they allow 3. Says they allow two pets.
When we've traveled really far internationally, they've allowed us to use quite deep food and water bowls so that you can place ice in there. That way over the long travel time it melts so they hopefully always have water vs it spilling all over first thing. With food we've always given it on those long travels, and then also taped extra to the top of the carrier in case of an unexpected overnight. But again, it's always changing. Sometimes I've been able to include a natural toy inside for the bird, other times they won't allow it.
What about toys? Would you ever put maybe a smallish soft (so they don’t get whacked in the face with wood or something) preening or foraging type toy in there?
I’d throw an absolute fit if my macaw was lost in transit. Also I use to think the attach and twist bowls were cool but Zuko also learned how to remove them and learned that the oval part is what keeps them in there so he snaps the edges 😭
My macaw was shipped through Delta cargo just over a Month ago. At that time, they did not allow food or water bowls inside the carrier, so I'm confused about your content. The shipper used pine chips on the bottom, and placed food within. However, the Macaw was not allowed any water. Once she arrived, I had to cut the screen, zip ties and duct tape, just to provide water, as we had a 2 hour drive home.

I need to fly with mi quaker from Uruguay to Canada, wich airline do you recomend?
I am travelling from USA to India. Have you travelled internationally? was your pet in cargo or cabin?
@@anaghadalvi9966 sorry, I have not traveled internationally with him. Would definitely look into the needed paperwork to bring him into the US. I was going to be driving from the lower 48, through Canada and into Alaska. I had to do paperwork for both Canada and reentry into the US and it had to be done roughly 2 months before the trip. I didnt have 2 months notice prior to the trip, so, he stayed with my parents☹
@@carolinaolivera7835 I am sorry, just now seeing this. I have never traveled internationally with him.
@@marybethfuesting2894 So sorry that happened.
Was just wondering this the other day! Great info! Thank you!
When you talked about Linus, your cockatoo, having pieces of luggage and clothing in the carrier, I laughed. It sounds like something from a Seinfeld episode.
“I just put the comics in there so they have something to read” 😂 great dad joke Dave
Thank you this is very helpful.
I never knew this before!
I learned how many employees of the airlines training and knowledge is lacking many years ago! Also their power trip bs. It is absurd that I have to pay (last I flew w my 4lb dog) $125 ONEWAY for her to be up under the seat in front of me. Encountered some that were all knowing.....in what I have no clue. Tried to make up their own rules ect. I always have the rules in hand as well so there isn't an issue with the regulations. Haha no matter how early I am I still end up 99% of the time frustrated w them lol but as you I prefer delta
Yeah. As Dave mentioned, the trick is to print out the rules since their training isn’t always up to par, Ive found
Check specific airline in-cabin regulations! Most allow birds in carriers as carry-on in the cabin as Dave said....except COCKATOOS!!! Can you imagine an umbrella cockatoo on a straight flight from LA to New York!?!?
LOL!! I was thinking about that as Dave mentioned screaming children. My U2 would give everyone a run for their money....or everyone would hear "Hello...hello?....HEllooooo??....HELLO!!!!....Peek a boo!!!..." for hours 🤣🤣🤣
And that would still be quieter than my last flight next to kids! -Dave

Please everyone do not disguise your animal as an therapy animal if it's not. Cause this makes the lives of therapy animal holders so so much harder.
how?
@@Bussyhandler because then real therapy animals get shunned by business owners because they dont believe they truly are therapy animals

Thank you! This has put my mind at ease on so many ways. I will be shipping my little guy (Amazon) from Hawaii to MA and have been stressed about some of the parameters, particularly carriers and his safety as well as the safety of the ones handling him. Your tips are great!
watching this at the airport lol!! my flight delayed 3 hours so binge watching old vids ily guys Jamie and dave
So helpful! Nice video!!
Hey there,
Hope you're doing good. Can you please share your experience with the grey parrot? I'm also looking to bring my grey parrot from Pakistan to the US but the ministry isn't allowing to issue the certificate for God knows what reason. Would like to hear your experience and process details.
Thanks! ✨✨
Can you tell me more about your travel with an African grey parrot i need help please 🙏
Pet owners of all non-dog/cat species should really get together and protest for our rights to bring our babies. It's pure discrimination.
This sounds exhausting, I don't know how you two have remained calm in those situations. I always try to he prepared for any case scenario but wow is that extensive! Bless you two, I hope it's not even MORE difficult for you guys to perform post covid. 🤞
Oh gosh so stressful! Thank you for all the tips and help! Hopefully I won't have to ship birds to another country because there's just so much here to think about!
great video thanks for the info
Good video to take a flight expert🐦 in a flight
Thanks sooo much this helped me a lot. I dont know what could I do. I cant live without my parrot. Thanks soooo much.
Love you guys! This is super helpful but honestly I’m going to go camping with my pigeon so that we can free fly out in the Australia bush, problems are predators and recall. Thanks for specifying the cage sizes!
The professionalness on this video I like it but I also like the rambling :)
Thanks a lot. You are covering all the possibilities. Very useful.
The thing is im just preparing for the future here cause im planing to get a bird in the next years and im most likely gonna be in another country for my education and i know that i will have to move back to my home country with the bird ✌🏻🥲
My comment from Your last video with monte and his weird flight dance. 😂
Yes, my cockatiel did that when I first got her. 💕
Some people use news paper make sure its black and white news paper

I like to put in the comics so they can read it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No birds likes reading about food section everyone knows that
sometimes put in the crossword hoping my bird will learn how to do it and turn out to be a bird prodigy
very informative thanks
Thanks I really needed this...
SO HELPFUL!! Thank you!
I have shipped several dogs and I must say, this video is spot on! You cover just about everything that can and often will occur. And the personel... Yeah. They are like that all around the world, it seems 🙈😅
So...Great topic!
Hi I am from India can you plz help if any supplier for macaw parrot
Wow. Wow. I cant imagine!! Good video!
This was so helpful! I want to travel to Japan one day and I would have to take my Indian ringneck with me. Thank you for the tips!
I subscribed!
And I thought traveling with musical instruments was hard! :-)
Great info Thank You!
This video really helps! I have wondered how I would travel with my bird etc. But if a bird gets stressed, how one make it better for the bird etc.?
It's best to desensitize the bird to the carrier first so they will be less stressed. If you go by car, short drives before your big trip are great, and a favorite toy secured to the side of the carrier is great. (My budgie destroyed a whole toy on a 14 hour drive, and destriyed another one on the way back lol)
My lovebird is use to a carrier by car☺️ and his very relaxed with that and everything. But by air its a different story?
Thanks so much!!!
Thank you very much for sharing this with your years of experience. 💞
It was very helpful.
This is such a helpful video that people don't realize is
very good and information
Appreciate the info., ty very much. 👍🏼😁
Would like to see something that can already be made for them to ship, so many things, eek Dave, I was getting stessed out watching this, I don't think they make a ready to fly(on planes) carrier, wow, Thanks very informative, been wondering bout this, doesn't the water spill ? ♥️♥️
Jeez, I guess I’m never flying with my bird. 🤣 thank you so much for this video.
great video this is important so people won't re-home!
Thank you so much for making this. Very helpful but while watching the video i was just like airline rules are so stupid.
Hi. Do you know how to fly with a parrot in cabin from any country of Europe to Canada? Thanks
Make Updated Videos..please
Barbara Peesalot... I'm sure you were very serious with this question
Blueberry screaming
My budgie having a tantrume for no reason
One more thing when you first get a parrot how do you get a passport for them....?pls. answer or make a video on that topic..thanks
At the vet!
Good luck!
Hey,
That was a joy to read but I would like to ask a few questions.
Like of Brasil Birds 🐦🇧🇷🐦
Means I can take my pet bird already!!
Great video, thank you! I have two cockatiels, two parrotlets and a macaw. I think it’s safe to say we won’t be traveling with them.
5:50 Dave, you can hide plenty of your doves in your stage outfit for sure :D
Could you include links to the crates you mentioned?
How do I bring a Green cheek conure on a flight from South Carolina to Sacramento? My bird is still a baby and squawks mainly for attention and when she’s scared she repeatedly squawks loudly until I calm her down. I really don’t wanna put her in cargo and my parent might not last 3-4 days in a car. We also have an adult male bearded dragon, can we take them both as a carry on? We might fly Delta.
I was wondering... The person that dislike the video... What was their issue ⚠️? It was a very good video and I was wondering probably their country cannot fly birds
They probably worked for United ;) - Dave
Doesn’t matter ultimately because TH-cam considers a downvote as an interaction in their algorithms, so even someone who downvotes a video is actually doing them a favor.
Dave, you’re a funny dude
Traveling with parrots is my dream. 😭😭
I was shipped a caique in June and they used a plastic mesh and he had chewed a big hole in it.😂 Because of covid it was a bit of a mess but it all worked out!
Did he ingest any of the plastic?
@@juliusroman8616 no there was pieces of plastic everywhere.😂
I've actually found during Covid they've been a lot more understanding - we had a student need to check their bird in earlier than 4 hours and they actually allowed it whereas in the past they've rarely ever bent the rules!
@@BirdTricks I should have been more clear it was just the mix up of shipping a pet or a bird sale. At the time they would only ship birds for people selling them it was right at the beginning of Covid and everyone was confused. It took 2 weeks to realise they would even send a bird for sale. It was otherwise fine!
@@MyJAG12345 Ah yeah, gotta make it a commercial shipment most of the time.
I read they allow 2 of the same breed in one carrier if they are small to be counted as 1 pet only. I have 3 budgies I’m looking to fly through Delta so I hope I can have a medium carrier for 2 and a small one for the 3rd. 😢🥺
I’m moving across country and all car rentals are booked SUV size and uhaul is too costly. This is my last resort. I hope they allow 3. Says they allow two pets.
For how many hours can they travel through air if its an international flight? What about food should they be fed during travel?
When we've traveled really far internationally, they've allowed us to use quite deep food and water bowls so that you can place ice in there. That way over the long travel time it melts so they hopefully always have water vs it spilling all over first thing. With food we've always given it on those long travels, and then also taped extra to the top of the carrier in case of an unexpected overnight. But again, it's always changing. Sometimes I've been able to include a natural toy inside for the bird, other times they won't allow it.
6:52 I honestly find that highly believable lol some people are careless, too careless sometimes.
This is amazing going to Pakistan in dec to pick up my African grey thx 🙏
What about toys? Would you ever put maybe a smallish soft (so they don’t get whacked in the face with wood or something) preening or foraging type toy in there?
I’d throw an absolute fit if my macaw was lost in transit.
Also I use to think the attach and twist bowls were cool but Zuko also learned how to remove them and learned that the oval part is what keeps them in there so he snaps the edges 😭
My Indian ring neck loves your birds
Would commercial shipment be successful for any flights internationally?
I want to know that we can take our bird with us in the plane.please share the details and process it takes.

My macaw was shipped through Delta cargo just over a Month ago. At that time, they did not allow food or water bowls inside the carrier, so I'm confused about your content. The shipper used pine chips on the bottom, and placed food within. However, the Macaw was not allowed any water. Once she arrived, I had to cut the screen, zip ties and duct tape, just to provide water, as we had a 2 hour drive home.
can you make some videos on quaker parrots or how to train them when they are being stubborn (or what I am doing wrong that makes me think they are stubborn)
