On "My Car Story" we're in Geneva IL at The Geneva Concours d’Elegance on 8-28-16.
We're looking at a 1959 MGA Twin Cam Convertible in Blue Paint.
The car's Owner is Gerry Geraci. Gerry’s had the car since 2014. Gerry shares “the car gets a lot of attention, and gets more attention than my Ferrari”. I found that comment interesting.

I had 59 MGA roadster several years ago. It was the standard model. Very pleasant car to drive on a warm sunny day. A few of the twin cams came out in the MGA Fixed Head Coupe.

HOLEE CRAP!!!!! Over the past week or so, I have been "reimmersing" myself in Twin Cam stuff as I just bought another one in very nice condition but a "stuck motor". :( Note I say I bought another one, because I USED TO OWN THIS TWIN CAM!!! Woah! I had bought it as a project car probably 30 years ago. It even had the european "nuts" as original from the build sheets. (Twin Cams had a different thread than normal, so completely unique)I noticed these are not on the car now. I kept it for several years, then sold it to the TC expert who restored it. It does look fantastic and so glad I found this, Thank You Lou!! Also, keep keeping it great Gerry!

My father had a 59 twin cam and raced it for a few years. Eventually, he pulled the twin cam and installed a 1500 std engine and sold it to my uncle in the mid 60's. He had it for years. I got it running again in 1979 - took my wife on our first date in that car and drove it on and off till I went to college. Lots of fun. My uncle sold it in the late 90's with the original engine that was in storage. I wish I had grabbed it.

What a shame MG did not put this twin cam engine and a five speed gearbox in all the MGB's.

The engine capacity is actually 1588 cc, not 1589 cc. The 1500 had a capacity of 1489 cc.

The problem is not only restore it but also maintain it so pristine, he must polish the car every night just before going to bed.

Exhaust note? You haven't begun to hear it until it hits the cams (at about 5500-6K) in 2nd or 3rd gear with your foot in it! Sounded like ripping freshly-starched sheets! But what a bitch to keep tuned! Had one in '63-'66, dropped it back to a pushrod after a year or two because I got tired of replacing starter motors, draining cooling system so's I could pull the top rad hose to get at the points, adjusting carbs at red lights because the barometer had changed a bit, blah blah ad naus. But I guess the ghost is still with me, 'cause now I fight with my much more civilized Toy Cressida - straight 6 with twin cams, but SO much more civilized!
Still, I enjoy Other People's Twin Cam A's a lot! Thanks, purists! 8-)

"Jerry, start it up. Jerry, rev it. Jerry, stand right here." That's just insulting and annoying. As a point of comparison, Jay Leno is courteous enough to ask for those things rather than ordering people around. I guess that's why after 7 years Lou is still only at 40k subs.

In the UK it was never really popular , too expensive , and it used a lot of oil . it was a design fault that was later rectified by enthusiast,s
TR2/3S were faster cheaper and more economical ,
