Agreed. I'm not a librarian, I was a store manager for Barnes & Noble for many years. We found it necessary to add a genre equality (for lack of a better term) aspect to the corporate mandated new hire training. I also happen to be a classically trained musician, so I'd seen more than enough genre shaming growing up and in college & orchestras. I wasn't about to let such petty behavior manifest under my watch. Happy Holidays!
The timing of this video! Coincidentally, I'll be assembling my new Wayfair bookcase this week. Got a lot stored on my Kindle, but I'm still a Level 2.7 bibliophile. ❤📚
I love the designs you came up with. I used to be obsessed with books. Now I’m an occasional reader. I have an e reader. You can get books for free if you join Kindle Unlimited for less than $10 a month. And there’s a few other ways to get free books. That’s why I bought the e reader. It’s a lot cheaper. And I live in a small house that has no storage. If I can get our office cleaned out of all the junk my husband collects. I could go with one of your designs. I still have books, just not as many as I did. We couldn’t bring them all when we moved. And it made me sad. But I still have a few. And I’m keeping them.
I get nervous around people who don’t have books. (& yes, I have a Kindle & iPad for portable reading, also because I had to give away several thousand books when we left North America. They cost *so much* to 🚢 ship, & putting books into storage is just lunacy) When I am in a place that has no books, it feels like a long-stay furnished hotel, aka Staybridge Suites. & yeh, I lived for several years between TO & ATL, so I spent some time in US Staybridge Suites: books, I have sooo many books 📚
*Enjoying this Series* . Kudos Kiva, you've done a great job! I love the way you incorporated a bit of rustic/organic woodtones in each design style. I have been trying to influence a friend (avid reader) to do something similar to your third suggestion in her "fire place" room.
But the kindle app has a page turning feature! 😂 I have had to get rid of many books when I moved states and countries over the years, so I pivoted to the kindle app. Now that we own a house, I’m collecting art, fashion and decor coffee table books and loving it. I display them everywhere.
I would even go as far as saying that reading Twilight (or John Grisham, or whatever supposedly not-so-sophisticated book) is still a more enriching activity than watching TV or playing video games. Even pop lit contributes to your vocabulary.
I love this video - and series!!! I am in the book obsessed category, but love all the ideas.
This librarian approves the anti- genre shaming message. Books ARE for everyone.

Also, no shame in adults having young adult books. No books should ever be shamed.

Thank you so much! I tried to cater to all design styles in this series :). Keep me updated on your friend! I'm sure that would look lovely.
I hope there will be a 2nd season because this series is so entertaining and helpful!

I'm number 3 for sure. I definitely lead a book club. HLEP. Neeeeeed those black bookcases! NOT TURNING PAGES, lol!
I love books
Books are gifts that keep on giving!
Books in the bed is so funny for me. When I was younger and single, half of my bed was covered in books. Thought I was the only one. 😮😊
😅 You were not! I had at least 5 books in my bed at all times from childhood through my 30s.

i'm always worried the floating shelves will fall as books are hella heavy
But Kiva, I can read my kindle without my glasses at night 😢 Love the ideas tho, thank you!!!
And change the font size. Perfect for my aging eyes.
I am living in 30 sqm apartment, I am between book worm and obsessed - so my living room is basically a library with sofa and coffee table ;)
I’m into the full academy library to maximize bookshelf space. Of course guest only see part of my collection in the living room.
Thank you for your inspiration
