    Man, I know there was a couple of extra luxuries in this system such as the custom rack for the marine pure blocks but the result is the sexiest sump on TH-cam. The sump is a display onto itself. Mesmerizing

    Honestly this is one of the best well thought out filtration systems. What I really like is everything is all contained underneath the tank. Everything looks to be accessible. The custom additions are great. Very nice.

    Your sump is gorgeous, love love the red white and blue. You’re saying you have low nutrients but you also said you have gfo running through one of the reactors. Maybe I’m mistaken about your use of gfo. I took my gfo out so I can have a little p04. Thanks for this and all your videos

    Really nice set up brother, from the 125 to this is nice! Not that the 125 was not. Wouldn't it be a good idea if you had your cal reactor dripping into your fuge? The algae loves excess co2.

    Mind sharing what type of plumbing you use to connect the Black ball valves to the pcp, there is obviously a reducing busing. The black stuff is like lawn irrigation pieces. Is it just threaded into the reducer (pipe thread) thanks

    How do you figure out how to hook everything up, I'm so confused, I don't even know which way the water is flowing. I'm new to the hobby and I'm slowly learning but your system scares me. But I love your knowledge of this hobby, keep up the good work and keep them videos coming.

  • @dubbys
    @dubbys 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. Thank you.
    Have you ever thought about not running filter socks?
    I've seen huge improvements on skim and refugium growth after removing them. They just seem like a double condom, imho. You have the biological more than covered with rock, pure, skimmer, fuge... let it work. If you're not pulling and replacing everyday, I don't see a benefit.

    • @FishOfHex

  • @bgoldb21
    @bgoldb21 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Really enjoyed the sump walkthrough. I truly appreciate the planning that went into your sump build. Great work. Your reactors looked empty. Is that because your nutrients are already very low? Interested to see your triton test results related to the marinepure blocks.

  • @mwfrost62
    @mwfrost62 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great video Travis, thank you for that. I'm interested in your take on UV Sterilizers, I see you run one, it seems like it`s almost 50/50 on people that swear by them and people that say they are a waste. Do you use it to target algae or water borne pathogens?

    Do you have any advice on replacing my clients Reef tanks such as the Red Sea Reefer 250, 350 all the way up to the 750 series? We are looking for a drop in replacement that can accommodate the stock plumbing.

    Doing my research on a sump. Spoke with GEO. Is this sump really quiet?

  • @mattpaul6805
    @mattpaul6805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quick question mate, First superb looking custom sump, man Geo did a really nice job! Anyways, I see that you are running 3.15inch drains but you have 2 Cepex 1.5'' ball valves on each drain, why did you go with two instead of just 1 1.5 Spears Gate valve to control your main drain... Looks like you have Ball Valves on your secondary as well any reason for that and the reason why I asked is I am getting ready to hard plumb my Synergy 20'' External Overflow box that has 3.15'' drains but I was only going to use one Spears Gate Valve for more precise control sort of speak.

    Put ur heaters next to the return pump and keep the thermometer in its place

    • @tellmelies90
      @tellmelies90 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To keep the whole tank at the same temperature not the sump only

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't impact the reading as the water is already past the probe before its heated and returned to the tank.... its not back flowing to the temp prob haha

  • @DGamer166
    @DGamer166 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay so I'm new to saltwater and have what I think might be a very stupid question. The skimmer, everything I've read says that water is sucked in through the upper portion of the bubble chamber then skimmed through (if you're using a counter current method) then sent back out through the bottom. On yours though, I don't really see anything that could be making it go in through the top. And even if it does you said that same chamber of the sump flows into the next. So would it not be dumping skimmed water right back into an area of unskimmed water, having it flow into the area, into the display, then back again to repeat that? Or is that the point? It's frustrating that the only part of the skimmer I don't understand is quite possibly the simplest.

    Also, why run gfo if you grow chaeto? Proper chaeto growth will lower nitrate (very little), and also phosphate. Grab a kessel.
