    More of this please!!! To me this is the most important part of prepping for a number of reasons. 1) Practicing this before a life changing event is great for when you need to grow your own food. 2) If there's not a life changing event then this saves on your food bill. 3) You can learn how to save and preserve any excess crops through pressure canning or if you're lucky enough, freeze drying. 4) Knowing how and when to plant crops is an invaluable skill to bring to the table if you have to go to a community that is not familiar with you. 5) Food will always be something you can barter with. I'm sure most of your viewers don't know that some crops will survive in the winter and having fresh vegetables in the winter will be a huge bargaining chip if you need to barter. The list can go on. We need more of this!

      Yup, and even if people only have a small concrete yard, you can grow potatoes in tubs (about the size of that one Nate's son is using to pound the earth).
      A square meter on concrete can hold nine such tubs, and each tub will grow many portatoes if you feed and water them. Just quarter full with compost, put in potato (shoots pointing up), another quarter fill, scatter some tater food, then fill up to the brim and water them).
      And that is just one square meter.

I’m very familiar with the keys, go there yearly. You can also have chickens for eggs and maybe a goat for milk? Check out the local laws for what’s allowed. Obviously chickens are as they run wild down there. Iguanas are also free game. Raised beds & grow bags.

      unless your planting F1 hybrid seeds you cant guarantee how they will turn out, (heritage varieties are ok) apple breeders planting new seeds have a near 99% failure rate for desert apples, only the odd one turns in to a good variety worth cloning.

    If you can do it, I would work on the soil first, but under your orchard it would be great to put a geo cooling slinky. Dig it down 8 feet or so, filter the soil and get all rocks out, put down your slinky, test, backfill till about 18" or frostline, and then run all your irrigation pvc and risers/bublers, then backfll top soil the last 18" for permaculture / gardening.

      If you plant a tree with a PVC pipe about 6 inches in diameter. With one end starting under the root system and extending about 4 ft out of the ground and cap it. This is used to feed your trees compost tea if they look malnourished or even when they have higher yields.....also make sure!!!! You learn proper pruning techniques ("before") you cut off anything. One wrong cut can rewin the whole tree and years worth of time and growth 😮‍💨

    Some already commented this. Nate if you only have this on the upper layer your food will get irradiated and it probably won't survive nuclear winter. You need the same plants also planted in an underground garden with growing LED's as backup to deal with the time nothing on the ground layer will produce ( or at least will not produce healthy). There you might also need some plumbing do water supply, because rain wont fall there. your mind to this, you will beable to get that done.

  • @ritad.franklin6372
    @ritad.franklin6372 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Such a great idea to plant your trees! Please be sure to plant them with 12 to 15 feet apart so they can branch out and up. Trees grow a lot better when they can branch out and up. If they are too close, this makes for very crowded trees. Trees are made to spread out and bear lots of fruit. Trim them for several years and prune them correctly for best fruits. Let the sprouts on top grow towards the heavens. Lop off the sprouts on the underside of the tree limb. Do this each Spring for best growth and health. Ask the person from the nursery what's the best way to prune each tree.
