  • GoPro supply these hemispherical protective lenses to shield the glass lenses of the GoPro Max in harsh conditions.
In this video I explore issues of lens flare and stitching artefacts that you may want to be aware of when considering whether or not to use the GoPro Max protective lenses for your projects.
I apologise for the low audio volume, particularly for the animation. I shall endeavour to improve on this next time!

I agree. I think that they could be useful for some limited purposes with, as you say, extra caution!

I just shot some video with my MAX and had the unpleasant surprise of seeing the poor stitching from using the covers.🙁

Yes, I don't use mine anymore. So far the camera has escaped damage when fixed to one of the tie down points under the wing and sideways on to the airflow. As I say in the video, I think that these covers will only be useful to protect the lenses for 360° photos, photos in 'Hero' mode or for video when the camera is stationary and where the risk of flare is absent.

@@pretavol the camera actually belongs to my employer. A colleague damaged a lens when he took the camera out. We had the $100 replacement policy, and had a new one dispatched. That’s when I discovered the protective shields in our original package and felt dumb for not using them. I feel even worse now that I know how impractical they are. The lesson, I suppose is to fully research everything before you attach it to your camera. Happy Landings.
