Oh Oswestry used to be lovely. In the school holidays we would go to Oswestry on market day with our Grandma. The noise on the bus with all the housewives chattering was deafening. In those days there were still army camps so they weren’t all locals on the bus. We always had to go to the cattle market , still in the town then , to marvel at the auctioneers selling sheep and cattle in both English and Welsh, though it seemed to be mostly Welsh.
Then , a must was the pork butcher to get the very best pork pie. Of course we went round the market itself . By the time we got the bus back to Queens Head we were exhausted. Oswestry is much changed though still lovely.

Thanks, all is good here, hope things are well with you too!
It really is an amazing little corner of the world out here in Shropshire/Wales, I am glad that I opened my eyes to how great "the outdoors" was all those years ago!

Took me back to 1967 when I was working as an Apprentice Chef at The Bush Hotel Wokingham Berks (not there any more sadly ) :-(
I used to ride the 12 miles between Maidenhead & Wokingham Four times a day, Six days a week .... ( I was a bit fitter then ;-)

Haha, brilliant! It is amazing how much harder I find cycling up these hills compared to when I was on my boat and cycling was my main form of transport! I still walk all the time, but just changing to cycling seems to finish me off these days!!

Stunning area, I live just over the border in Powys and I always say the same about the hills, it's like nowhere else on Earth. Fantastic part of the world!

I'm looking at this part of the world to move to. was really interested in Shrewsbury, but I assume house prices are better in Oswestry or Whitechurch etc.. What's it like for transport into Shrewsbury etc.. and what are the downsides. if any? All your vids are great by the way.

Loved the vid, Dan. Loved these narrow roads around Great Britain. Particularly enjoyed the A4085 between Waunfawr and Porthmadog in Wales in 2014. Later spent 1/4 day in the car exploring the little roads around Llanrug where we were staying. Bliss.

I'm looking at places to live in a few years time and getting away from South Manchester. Oswestry and Shrewsbury are big contenders, although we are thinking about Scotland(depending on the dreaded weather!) I do worry a little about the accessibility of Oswestry, as I'd like to think I could jump on a train and get somewhere easy enough. For someone who wants to cycle, grow vegetables and have a lovely little town to walk around it does look appealing though. I have always enjoyed York, but property can be way too expensive around there.

Glad you liked it! Thank you very much for the Birthday Card! I am so sorry it took me so long to get it! I received it on time but then two of my cards were accidentally (clumsily by me) knocked behind a chest of drawers!!!
      It is very much appreciated!!!

Wish North Oxfordshire was a bit more hilly. It's mostly just flatlands

    • @SortOfInteresting

That is one of the good things with where Oswestry is located... flat on one side and hills on the other!

Yes, I love that is something I love about "this side of town", you can literally walk for hours sometimes without seeing another person! Especially when you start following paths through the fields etc!
