This song has helped me stay clean so many times. Blue october will forever be in my heart. Many of their songs has truly helped me. 11 years off street drugs. Grateful for eveything...
Nancy Roy Addiction is a terrible affliction and brings nothing but pain and ruin to yourself and those most dear. I lost everything of value in my life because of it. Possessions can be replaced in time but to mend the severed bonds with those we hold most dear is the most difficult part of the process. My struggle continues but I take heart in the success of others who were able to break free from the shackles that once bound them. Thank you for sharing and I wish you joy and success in all that you do. Stay strong!
My Husband & I just got married Tuesday June 18th and this was the song had our first dance to. Ironically we danced on a balcony while everyone watched from below. It was beautiful :) I wish Blue October would see this & know how beautiful their music is.
Oh the memories this song holds! The first date my hubby and I had we heard this song. Now here we are FIFTEEN years later. With 3 beautiful babies and more love for one another than I ever thought possible!
It is a shame that their most "popular" songs are not even their BEST songs. I have a new found appreciation for this group and cannot wait to see them live this fall!!
I find it interesting that everyone finds so much happiness in this song. While there is lots of emotion in it, a powerful song, I hear loss of a loved one, standing on the balcony deep in thought and the wind blows as if a kiss and he is off in memories and fantasizes about being with her again someday. Holding onto her memory so very tight.
He actually stated in a book this song was written about what he believes a perfect relationship would be like. I love your interpretation though. The very reason I love music is because it can mean something different to everyone.
He told us at a concert before he sang this that he wrote it for his youngest daughter. Though there aren't really any specifics so it can be interpreted many different ways.
I think it could also be about a break up. that last night you spend together, aware that this is the end. you love one another but it's never gonna work out. theres no other way, you can't believe it, this person is like no one you've ever known. you don't wanna let go...painfully beautiful. I find it funny too when people play this at weddings. I'm like you're missing the point, guys! 💙
I heard someone play this tonight in a live stream for the first time and had to look up the original. The comments here are so wonderful. It made the song played tonight extra special! Thank you for sharing it and thank you for sharing the comments. :)
Justin is one of the best song writers of our generation, and really any generation. So talented and yet not as well known as he should be. Always amazing stuff from him stuff that maybe not everyone understands
I was just introduced to this song a few months ago, b y a friend. I have been entranced by it since then. I usually listen to hard rock, heavy metal, speed metal, and or punk rock, but this song is amazing.
Yeah, they are one of the few bands that really bring it live. They look every audience member in the eye that they can. You can tell they really appreciate that we're there at all!
This was a song between my ex and I. And I mean someone who both hung the moon and extinguished the sun. I come back to this song every so often to remind myself of those memories, the good ones atleast, and also to remember the bad ones to see where I’ve come from mentally and as a person. It’s been years and it’s still my song to go to when I need a good healthy cry.
This song reminds me of a girl I dated Years ago the song perfectly describes how I felt for her although we didn’t make it as a couple we still keep in touch I couldn’t imagine my life without her in it it’s been over 25 years we have grown old together I guess there’s people you can’t and shouldn’t forget sometimes
This is my husband and my wedding song. He has tattooed on his side the verse "so we talked about mom's and dad's about family pasts just getting to know where we came from" ...and I have the next part "our hearts were on display for all to see, I can't believe this is happening to me"
that is awesome! my mom has his autograph on her arm and got it tattooed and ''picking up pieces'' and then my step dad and my mom a getting a tattoo of a verse from the song debris! also she has 'kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that i had made' across her feet (hard to discribe unless seen) and right now we are in car driving 10 hours to go meet justin and the band!! Congrats about the wedding! Have a great day!
Foiled was one of my favourite Albums as a kid. At one point I noticed it was gone. Years later I found it in my Uncle's truck, I wanted to be mad but I wasn't, I got to share this Album with someone else and he had clearly carried it with him for years. 10+ years later, my Uncle died today. This was the only music I could come back to. Rip Aaron, I'll love you and miss you forever buddy.
The first time I heard this song was when I was coming down from a 2 week meth binge. I just remembered balling like a baby. I've been clean ever since.
I love the beauty of art, it touches everyone in a different way. That's the beauty of it to me:) With Justin's songs you can definitely interpret them in so many ways. Love them all!
I needed this reminder today....what it really feels like and why I have done without the frivolous and be open for the real!!! No rush love.... I am working on loving life enough that when we come together neither of us will fall on old social conditioning forms of love...but real, deep soul shifting and mind shattering passion and forever afters!
I named my son after Justin. His first me is Justin too. This band was big factor in me and his father connecting and tho relationship went sour. I am blessed with my son and this song will always remind me of him..
My interpretation of this song... To me, this is certainly a story of someone getting to know a lady and realizing that he is falling deeply in love with her. His arms are open wide to her love and he knew it from the start. They don't want to fall asleep for fear they would miss this moment together. He wants to tell her that he is "So yours for the taking" and he's tearing up trying to figure out how to say it. Then she kisses him as if to say, "you don't have to say it. I know how you feel and I feel the same way". They are basically both flying away together in love. But it's just beginning, and he knows that there will be times when they are apart. He feels that eventually they will be together but until then, "I'll keep you in my dreams" I felt this way when I met my wife. And like many others, we danced to this song at our wedding.
I heard this song for the first time in like a year and a half and at a certain point, I simply couldn't breathe. Choked me up so hard. It HURT! Then tears just poured out of my eyes
I am amazed at the complexity and yet the simpleness of this song. It is happy and melancholic, and real and dream like. This song is WAY under appreciated. and this from a guy who grew up listening to Slayer, and Merciful Fate, and Sepeltura, and the like.
Such a beautiful song. I had heard it but never really listened to it until now. Great lyrics. Could mean so many different things to different people... that to me is what music is about, love it.
Justin explained the origins of this song. He was in Texas and was talking with a girl (his future wife) in Nebraska and they decided to meet up. He took a train from Texas to Kansas City and she took a bus from Nebraska to Kansas City and they meet at the Westin Crown Center in room 1852 and he walked in the room and smelled some marijuana and the Smiths and a few other songs were playing and they fell in love.
My fiance has been gone, locked up and than now sent to some home. I don't know when I'll be able to see him again :(. This has been my song to him since the beginning. And I was singing to it just remembering the past and in the middle of the first chorus, I couldn't hold it back any longer and I started balling. It's nice to let it out, and Blue October is amazing.
I was told last week to listen to this song by my ex. he said it reminded him of us and how we would lie like that and talk of our future together...then 27 years of life happened.....and whats the saddest part is we still love each other but arent together.....maybe one day....i never stop having faith!!
I'll be covering this song in sign lagage soon per request! so beautiful I'm excited! if you're interested I have done other blue covers in sign language and they are on my channel!
this song makes me cry every time I here it. I was listening to this song when I asked out my first love. It brings back bad memories but I cant help but love it.
That's funny that you said that. My fiance and I are getting married in May and we absolutely live Blue October and this song. We seriously considered this being out first dance song but after a lot of going back and forth we decided that this song was just too intimate for us to feel comfortable with everyone watching us while we danced to it. We felt like that moment would be too public for such a personal song. I hope you'll be braver than us (:
Everyone has their first love. It's the first time you let yourself be vulnerable enough to share yourself with another person, and, usually, it's the first time you feel the kind of pain only heartbreak can bring. But for those weeks or months, it's the most beautiful thing. You never love as easily or as completely as you do the first time. We should treasure that memory, painful though it might be for some of us, lest in our cynicism we forget how to love that way.
This song really meant a lot to me years ago when I was in a long distance relationship with the love of my life.. and we'd get those few moments every year or so when we could be together again.. until I finally took the step and moved to be with him.. We were in an LDR for 2 years before I moved.. and we've been together for 8 years now and still going strong; we even have a son now. ❤ this song made me think about him when we were apart.. and how much I loved him and couldn't wait to be in his arms again. Even now, being with him still, having a kid with him, seeing him everyday.. I still don't want to ever let him go. I still dream of him when I close my eyes and I still miss him when he's gone for even the shortest amount of time.
this song was shown to me by my mom and if i feel sad at all i cry when singing along. this song is powerful; to me, in a good way. i need this song from time to time
The guy I've dreamt about for a long time said this song reminds me of him. And I can only thank the heavens for this chance at a life I've always wanted. Cheesy and corny for sure, but I can't help but smile.
This was a beautiful song. I remember hearing this song back then when this was newer. I was just depressed and hopeless but still content and in control in my messed up way. Yeah eeeeeesh thanks, work, life, family etc. I love this song though it's really good.
"And now I find I'm yelling 'make it go away!' Just make a smile come back and shine just like it used to be!" -Blue October's 'Hate Me' these lyrics make me cry almost every time. Needless to say, I feel every ounce of your pain. Hope things look up for you, friend. God bless.
TH-cam randomly played this song while I was doing something else on another window , and I loved it so I looked to see who was singing it, and I will be damned if it wasn't another fanfreakingtastic one by Blue October...Do they have any crappy songs at all? Srsly, I just started listening to them and dear lord they are so good!
My son was born with complications and he was on the third floor in stockton ca and san fran came picked him up and he was on the 15 floor in san fran but to him it would be 18 floors remarkable song and a amazing band!
This song has a completely different meaning for me. It reminds me of a lot of people. But It mostly makes me think of my mom. Her and I are really close. And im not sure why it reminds me of her but it does. Especially the 2nd verse. My mom and I share a strong connection through music.
There's a track after this song, that's after close to two minutes of static and noise, that everyone says is a "hidden track". If you haven't heard it... you should wait for it and listen to it. One of the deepest/heart-felt songs on this cd.
+Bailey Stuckey actually it has no name. if you listen to it on a digital CD player, the exact time it starts is a number tattooed on Justin. swore to never tell what the significance is. can only say its beautiful and haunting just like he is. amazing man!
Im not crying, youre crying😢 this song just brings me to my knees, literally i hear it stop and drop down and just bawl my eyes out. ❤thank you Justin i need this song mire than oxygen at this moment October 1st 2023 will be the new discovery of the song i will always held dear and close to my heart forever Blue October Love 💙💙💙
This song has helped me stay clean so many times. Blue october will forever be in my heart. Many of their songs has truly helped me. 11 years off street drugs. Grateful for eveything...

2020 got me
this song is so deep. i love Blue October. his voice is like a voice of an angel that can feel pain and love.
His definition of surrender gets me every time:
I raise my hands as if to show you I was yours, that i was so yours for the taking...
Yes!! Omg!! That’s what makes it so special to me.
hmm
It is a shame that their most "popular" songs are not even their BEST songs. I have a new found appreciation for this group and cannot wait to see them live this fall!!
There’s something divine about this song that can’t be explained in words. It’s so captivating...
2020 and this song still moves me so much

Now that is poetry.

its also about suicide

My interpretation of this song...
To me, this is certainly a story of someone getting to know a lady and realizing that he is falling deeply in love with her. His arms are open wide to her love and he knew it from the start. I felt this way when I met my wife. And like many others, we danced to this song at our wedding.
I heard this song for the first time in like a year and a half and at a certain point, I simply couldn't breathe. Choked me up so hard. It HURT! Then tears just poured out of my eyes
my mom loves this song shes going to use it for her wedding❤❤
This song has always spoken to me 🧡
I am amazed at the complexity and yet the simpleness of this song.
A lot of memories right here. . takes me WAY back...🙌🙏
This song is so special to me and someone I will always love dearly.
That's the sweetest thing I've heard all my life :3
There's no way he could say no to a lovely guy like you who loves him.
Good luck! :)
Hi Rushelle,

Oh Mel, this is for you... what a beautiful song

There's a track after this song, that's after close to two minutes of static and noise, that everyone says is a "hidden track". If you haven't heard it... you should wait for it and listen to it. One of the deepest/heart-felt songs on this cd.
It's "its just me"
+Bailey Stuckey actually it has no name. if you listen to it on a digital CD player, the exact time it starts is a number tattooed on Justin. swore to never tell what the significance is. can only say its beautiful and haunting just like he is. amazing man!
Woe I never knew that! That's beautiful.
THAT's the song I'm looking for! Too bad I didn't keep my CDs.
