Ryan Dimiquibo, it is a litany that I found in the Pieta prayer booklet, which I also recommend. Here it is:
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,
From the desire of being loved,
From the desire of being extolled,
From the desire of being honored,
From the desire of being praised,
From the desire of being preferred,
From the desire of being consulted,
From the desire of being approved,
      Deliver me, Jesus
From the fear of being humiliated,
From the fear of being despised,
From the fear of suffering rebukes,
From the fear of being calumniated,
From the fear of being forgotten,
From the fear of being ridiculed,
From the fear of being wronged,
From the fear of being suspected,
      Deliver me, Jesus
That others may be loved more than I,
That others may be esteemed more than I,
That in the opinion of the world, others may increase, and I may decrease,
That others may be chosen and I set aside,
That others may be praised and I unnoticed,
That others may be preferred to me in everything,
That others become holier than I, provided they I may become we holy as I should,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

I’ve prayed it a few times. Maybe that’s what I need to do. I struggle with this. Actually, I’ve listened to BIAY and I don’t remember Jesus addressing this. But it may be something I need to ponder on. I’ve been doing that a lot with things he’s said about other stuff. Jesus gives good advice honestly…I’ve implemented some of it already, and I’ve seen a difference in my life just with the few things I’ve reflected on.

You're probably just trying to help by sharing your comment, but at 5:30 "no, I'm just trying to help" "like, yeah, but, I didn't ask for your help, so you're criticizing something". Don't keep your opinion to yourself! Share it with others in a respectful way in order to help them. Otherwise, how will we learn if there is no room for debate or to receive criticism?

This is so applicable for today. There was a friend who was talking about politics. At some point he asked, "Who do you support and back in the upcoming election?" I said, "nothing good comes from people discussing politics, especially if we do not agree. You were just talking about a celebrity you don't like anymore because of who they support politically." That is a whole different talk...celebrities who feel they can make an influence on public politically because of their celebrity. I will leave you with this... My two cents on opinions. I have learned that opinions are referred to as value statements in Logic.
An opinion only has subjective value if the people in the debate or conversation value the same thing.
Most people want to share their opinions only to validate that another person agrees with their opinions.
Opinions cannot be used as a basis for a logical argument.
God has inspired me recently to not have an opinion on anything.
I see an opinion as a way of gossiping. And I feel that it is a sin.
    Thank you.

Finally, someone who expresses what I wondered about for years. I thought I was the only one who thought things like “... but maybe this is a bit more complex than you think” or “what do you mean, why should I have an opinion about something I know nothing about?”

One of the things I used to teach my students when I was facilitating leadership training was that opinions are not fact therefore they can't be right or wrong, only different. Some may be better informed than others, but at the end of the day it is still just a person's opinion. The challenge is respecting that. And the Father is right. Sometimes an opinion is best left to yourself. I picked up a saying from watching a documentary on Colonel Hal Moore, the commander immortalized in the movie We Were Soldiers. "Never let a perfectly good opportunity to keep your mouth shut pass you by." Give your self 10 seconds, weigh the consequences, then speak up. I struggle with that so I know the value of that practice quite well.

These lessons need to be learned by all that use social media, especially those platforms like twitter and facebook. There is too much opinion sharing just to get vengeance or to take someone down under the guise of virtuous intent. Sharing an opinion of someone or something can also be called gossip which can get out of hand negatively so quickly and harm is done which cannot be undone.

I enjoyed this topic very much! I just experienced an uncomfortable situation where a Deacon at my church gave me his opinion. He told me, "Your Clinical Depression is Evil and if you don't get rid of it you will take it to Purgatory." Clinical Depression and Situational Depression are different. My Clinical Depression is a mental disorder caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. This is 9 out of 10 times a need for a doctor to review one's medications so that they can be changed or adjusted. Clinical depression is not something I choose. It happens unexpectly and is out of my control. Situational depression is caused by an event: Divorce, Death of a Loved one, Loss of a job, Loss of a relationship, etc. You know what the depression is about and it's usually temporary. Clinical depression can hit you at any time and you do not know why you are crying everyday or how long it will last until you seek help from a psychiatrist.
When I left the Deacon's office, I was hurt and confused. I felt "Judged" and I felt like he was calling me a "Sinner" because I had Clinical Depression. His opinion of Clinical Depression was inaccurate. I don't think he is the right Spiritual Director for me, however I'm having problems with how to lovingly address him inorder to have peaceful closure. Please...I am reaching out to all who understand my situation and ideas on how one would have closure. Thanks to All! Big Thank You to Father Mike for all of you incredible videos. If I don't want to be related to something I don't, I won't. They can't make me and if they decide to get away from me because of it, so be it. Is in the same line of this video... I find it’s nearly impossible to share an opinion (especially anything faith based) on TH-cam in a video that resonates positively with every viewer. Loved this! It would be nice if Church Militant and Fr. James Martin would see this; it's important to speak the truth as well as how to say it without undermining the truth. And it is wise to have the humility to admit that a'lot of times we don't have enough details on a particular topic to have an opinion.
Awesome video, thank's Fr. Mike! God bless!😁

Michael Voris from Church Militant is awesome. Yes, he's passionate and vocal ... and *thank God for that!!* Generally speaking, what he says and exposes needs to be -- and in that "in your face" kind of way, because there are *_way_* too many "Catholics" that are either asleep or are simply heretical and they don't even have a clue that they are that way. They need a massive shake-up to wake them up and get their attention, and Michael Voris is the man to do it. The real Church Militant (i.e., us: Christ's Church alive in this physical realm, not the organization that Michael Voris heads) needs more people like him. He heard God's call and has answered ... positively. Usually, the people who get offended by what he says or the way he says it are precisely the ones who need to hear it ... just sayin'. 🕆📿😉

    • @robonymous4620
      @robonymous4620 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@David Russell Wrong. Church Militant, specifically because it consists of lay people, exposes and discusses the things priests have a hard time opening up about in public.
I've seen priests (good priests) try exposing and discussing the same stuff as Church Militant does, even in a much more watered down fashion, and they still continuously get ordered by their bishops to cease and decist. And, out of obedience, so far they all have.
The clergy are not going to fix a thing, because many of them are either in bed with Satan, are good but are sidelined by their superiors, are too afraid to lose their lives for Christ's sake (due to the satanic mafia of wolves in sheep's clothing who will arrange for their murder if they don't obey), or are waiting for an external force (like the laity, for example 😉) to do what needs to be done.
No, the clergy can guide us insofar as is possible, but the heavy lifting is going to have to be done by the laity, which includes Church Militant in no small part, and you and I.
You need to wake up -- and quickly. "My opinion." 😉

So, the four steps defined are:
    1. Evaluate why you’re expressing this thought.
    2. What is your opinion? Is it something true, like a principal, or is it just a preference?
    3. Who are you (in relation)?
    4. How are you expressing yourself?
Now, what I would like to ask: how is this different from an objective analysis with relative advice/recommendation? An analysis can have different points of view, but that relative differentiation does not turn it into an opinion, unless I have misunderstood the concept of an opinion? Isn't the concept of an opinion meant to be a subjective thought (a preference, not a principle or something like that)?
If an opinion is not inherently subjective as a concept, then what do you call a subjective thought? Noting that subjectivity can include lack of full information. So as far as I understand, what has been defined here is the process for an objective analysis with recommendation/advice based on multiple objective factors (including experience and points of view), not the process for or concept of an opinion.

I went to an agricultural school and we learned just so much about climate that I realized it's such an extremely complicated topic that I know just enough to know that I know almost nothing about it. As a conservative, it really annoys me when my fellow conservatives talk about it as if it was something simple and obvious. The same goes for liberals who know just as little but get into extreme panic mode.

I think Fr. Mike implied that if something is happening that merits intervention, then by all means say something! And he used Christ’s words to illustrate how to go about that (e.g. go to the person -> bring friends -> go to the Church). But he also pointed out that topics of mere opinion (e.g. how a priest holds his hands) need not be addressed. Discernment here is key.
