    Absolutely fantastic and informative. I had the opportunity to fit the roof lantern today. Delivery arrived at 3pm and fitted this by 7pm. My first attempt and never done this before. I noticed three things that you haven't mentioned in your video. The internal trim covers for covering the screws from the inside . Should have mentioned at what stage they need to be done.
    The corner brackets holes may not align. Mine where about 2mm out of position.
    The lower and upper middle capends in a 6 panels glass should have been been highlighted clearly. I made a mistake by pushing the black plastic screws before the end cap! Couldn't take them off and had to use ct1 to fit the upper end cap.
    Another minor problem is the cover trims fitted from the inside. No instructions on that and they don't fit firmly.
    Glass seals may have small loose glass stuck and need to be cleaned or they may damage the frame or glass integrity.
    The product is packaged very well apart from the glass panels. It would have been good if they protected the edges more for transportation. I have noticed some very minor damages to edges. The glass has sharp corners and you would expect some sort or caps or protection.
    Overall, I can't thank you enough for making this video .
    I have chosen korniche product due to watching your video
    Kind regards
    Adel

    Just be careful Roger, when you said 10nm is a lot, it isn't really. Most impact drivers would exceed that with ease.
    I do agree with you about silicone, eventually it will let you down. I still use Plumbers Mate!
    If I have to use silicone in an area I can't easily go back to, I use CT1.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a drip. The overhang on the glass is also enough to keep that joint dry. You could add lead and welt it up on the inside but modern sealants are very good

    😮Hi Roger, I watched your video clip on the Korniche roof lantern light, and decided that this was the one for me. Then I watched your new video clip on Part “L” of the building regs. As the Korniche roof lantern is only single glazed will this still satisfy the new Part”L” of the building regs. I have contacted the company but have received no answer.

    His Roger - love your videos - did you do the kerb for the roof lantern ? And how does that comply with building regs for insulation and thermal bridging? What thickness is the kerb and insulation,
    I am going to put a warm roof on my garage - Building control requires a minimum of 120 mm pir insulation - but is that not required for a vertical kerb? Sorry for so many questions.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We needed to make a video and Robin is ripping all that roof off so he cut a hole in it and made up a kerb. Normally we would make it out of 4 x 2 and line out with another 25 mm of insulation as well as the 100mm infills. This was built for the day.

I need to re-roof my rear extension as the old fibre glass roof is a bit tired so thinking of incorporating a 3m x 2m version of this there - the only thing I'm worried about is the weight of the glass (from a handling perspective) but I'll figure it out :)

      Good Morning Les, The glass used in the Video is the Ambi Blue. ! As for a reccommendation... This would depend on your requirements for the level of heat reflection and light transmission you desire. You can find details on the glass used for Korniche Roof Lanterns below
      Activ Clear - Low-e Conservatory Glass - U-Value 1.2, Solar Heat Reflection 31%, Light Transmission 70%

    You have to put the thing together yourself? Shit, you'd pay more in labor(which you could potentially fail at) to put the thing together than you would having a prefabricated one delivered and craned onto the roof. How many parts/fasteners are there in that thing? 25? 50? 100?

    • @Astromyxin
      @Astromyxin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, it should have probably a larger skirt flange at the bottom then, no?

    • @martindalewindows4801
      @martindalewindows4801 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And how much would you say a crane would cost vs one hours labour? 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @Astromyxin
      @Astromyxin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@martindalewindows4801 Depends on what kind of knuckle boom truck or crane you need, really. Depends on how high the building is, how heavy the item is, and where the delivery truck is able to park safely. Our local roofing supply house typically charges $50 american to deliver any number of pallets of roofing materials to a job, and if they can get in the driveway, they can get full pallets of shingles to the top of a three story townhouse no problem. My guess is that this thing would take an experienced man several hours(2-6 hrs depending on whether they've done one of those before) to put this contraption together, and even in that event you still run the risk of user error(which will cost _you_ , not them) and it's possible that it could leak if you make a slight error or errors and then you'd be on the hook to repair it. It's better they build the things in the factory to their specs and provide a warranty that covers repair or replacement in the event of a failure in the product itself that doesn't result from faulty installation. Plus if that thing is already built when it gets to the job, you can have the curb completely flashed and ready for it and just set the thing down on top of the curb, screw it down, and boom, done. Why would I want to worry about putting 1400 pieces together, each seam and joint a possible leak?

    • @Astromyxin
      @Astromyxin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's likely that most of the time, people will be buying one of these at the same time as replacing their roof, and if that's the case there's probably already a boom truck coming to lift the shingle onto the roof, so in that event, you've already paid for the crane, might as well use the thing.
