During the 2021-2022 school year I volunteered here for what my district calls “work-based learning.” It was actually quite fun, but most days were usually slow. One day we had 4 customers and that was it. It was still fun walking around all the equipment in the yard and watch them work on the new shed.
I have family members from Pottsville and St. Clair who worked for the Reaidng Lines. My mother's father was incharge of a section of track from Minersville through Frackville during the 1930's and my Grandfather was a brakeman on Reading GP-30's during the 1950's.
There has been something about trains that I just love and don't know why. This trip to the museum really was the best part of the experience. Seeing all the trains got me very excited and want to go and see it now. Thanks for sharing this my friend.
The piece of equipment that I find really interesting are the Reading "Blueliner" Electric Multiple Units especially in the SEPTA paint scheme. Some of the Blueliners were retired sometime in the 70s while others were rebuilt for SEPTA and were used until 1990. One special Blueliner in the collection is Blueliner #9110 which was the last car of the final train to ever depart from the Reading Terminal. Also mentioning that footage of the Blueliners in their SEPTA paint is kind of rare on YT.
Yeah so good that CSX was able to keep that locomotive in services for so long. Was built back in 1974 and only served a few years before becoming part of Conrail.
I was listening to that instructor, talking about the Journal Box, and the greased rag. So he was saying if the rag runs out of grease, the axle burns up. I wonder if they had to check that journal box several times, since it was in operation for long periods of time. It must have been packed with as much grease as possible, a lot of work.
I totally agree with you JP, train museums are my favorite. I always been fascinated by steam and diesel locomotives. I love looking them, seeing them up close. This is a fantastic video JP. 👍👍👍 I agree JP the price of diesel is unaffordable, and it's really sad.
The Reading Railroad Museum needs a new life under power and a new chapter for excursions like back on the days of the ex-BM&R railroad and the new engine house deserves to be restored and used for restoring engines in the future as well!
I very much enjoyed our visit to the museum! I'm so happy that they plan to restore and repaint everything there, and also happy that much of it is still in running condition. I'd of course love to see the RDCs in action. I enjoyed your style of presenting our trip. Our tour guide was great, but a lot of what he said didn't come through clearly and loud enough on my footage. I'll definitely visit there again to see how things progress.
You know I like a good museum JP. It has all my favorite things. This one especially. History RR stuff RR history and a/c. Just kidding about the last one. It can’t be that hot in Pennsylvania compared to Georgia. Even it is, that’s why there’s water.😁
Just North of the Reading Railroad Museum sits in the Town of Port Clinton Reading Rebuilt #2102 4-8-4 Class T1 Steam Locomotive now in service since 4/1/2022
In the model railroad in the museum the mix manifest train that first pass by my camera. The leading locomotive was actually a Fairbanks Morse baby trainmaster and the last locomotive was a GP7
CSX 4317 was built in 1974 as Reading 3412. In 1976 it was sent to the Delaware & Hudson rather than Conrail. Chessie System had backed the loan used to purchase them originally, and when the D&H went bankrupt in 1988, the entire group of engines went to Chessie descendant CSX. On CSX they seem to have primarily been used in local service in Florida. CSX donated this one to the RT&HS a couple of years ago. It's also one of a couple that were still in Reading paint when they went to CSX. The red engine you left out is also a former Reading locomotive, a C424; when Conrail retired it in 1981, it went through a GE program to rebuild it and was sold to the Green Bay & Western. The GP30 and C630 were restored in the late 1980s and were once operable. The U30C (6300) might be the only one left. The slug, former NS 9905, was built from a Fairbanks Morse H-24-66 "Trainmaster" originally Wabash 552. Most of these locomotives have been scrapped. General Electric made the electrical equipment for diesel locomotives and developed their own locomotive in the late 1950s. They made locomotives until fairly recently the company sold the locomotive business to Wabtec. The simulator was made with parts from a real locomotive.
Fantastic video brother!!!!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🚂🚂🚂 Loved it!!!!! Hope to visit here one day soon. The lay outs were awesome😎😎 The G scale was so awesome in such a small space 👍👍👍 Thank you for sharing this😊😊
Awesome place JP! Awesome video! That was really cool seeing the 1st GP30! They are my favorite engine! Great drone footage! Cool seeing the CSX up there, I see them here every day! Thanks for bringing us along!
Loved the intro/outro and the music too ...great shots .. was a lot of fun and I always learn something .. My favorite train was the top one because of the little red caboose ...beautiful layout . I really loved the 1950 era layout best , I think .. You looked right at home behind that desk LOL....Like the Horseshoe Curve tee shirt : } . Thank you for taking the time to share the fun .
Great video JP. I drive by so much but never get there. I’m going to have to change that. After visiting here you could stop at Cabela’s. The displays there are awesome. For lunch stop in at Hecky’s in downtown Hamburg. Just make sure you’re hungry if you order the big sub. It’s the size of two regular subs you get anywhere else.
What an enjoyable video! That is an amazing place! The layouts look so realistic and it sure has a lot of history to learn and lots to see! You were in your element for sure! Photos are excellent, love the one you shared earlier, they are all awesome! Thank you so much JP and have a great 4th of July weekend!
this museum is 4 and a half hours away from me . i'd love to do a trip there some day . what ever happened to the chassie cat ? august 13th my husband and i are going to the rochester & genesee valley railroad museum in rush ny . we will be raiding in the caboose . i can't wait .
It seems like a wonderful museum although I don't think I will make it there from Arizona. It references mostly Reading equipment but not all of it is.
I sorely wish you were down here when roadside America was in operation. I have a few videos of it, as well as other’s..but I think you coulda really made it “pop”. Hindsight, bro…
I have yet to be disappointed by any of your videos 😁👍❣ This one is awesome 👌 I love the small scale models of the trains...those and the replica towns and the murals are just beautiful 😍❤♥ I had a blast going through this with you ❤💛💙💓 I have to agree with you on the trains and amusement parks 😁😊👍👍 Two of my favorite things in life 😍 Thanks so much for sharing 😊😀 I very much enjoyed it 😊😀☺
Thanks for the train video JP, This is a great place shame I live in UK. Thanks for taking me there so much to learn about the history of your railroad and modern day!!😎🚃🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧🇺🇦
awesome thanks for the rr ride greatly appreciated info
I saw that C630 at Penobscot about 20 years ago. It had some work done at RMDI and was on it's way back to Reading then .

Something to add to my bucket list. Classic cars at Carlisle and Hershey along with Strasbourg.
I absolutely love that Mural of locomotives, that is amazing. So much detail, very nicely painted.
I agree, it's one of the better one's I've seen.
@@JPVideos81 I agree JP, I never seen one like that. Nice

Correct. I've chased 2102 back in April. Video is on my channel.
Awesome video thanks love the trains
Thanks Joan
Excellent video
At 38:49; Notice the clock on the wall. It's an official regulator clock with an upside down two as a seven.

Sad thing about the NS slug is that it uses to be a FM Trainmaster. Was either a Wabash or a Virginian.
The fact that it survives at all is a miracle.
The D-L does run a all alco fleet except for the gp9 #959
Thanks for the info
