    I'm a 61 year old granny, and I so enjoy watching your videos. Back in the day, I used to love to camp and ride atv's. Thank you so much for bringing to me the wildlife and camping fun to my computer screen. I do stay at home as I am disabled, but feel like I'm out in the wilderness again. Who knows, with the way the world is now, I may need to use these skills I have learned from you. Much love over the miles dear.

      I find them relaxing to watch although I don’t camp and my idea of camping is a nice hotel 😂 I especially like extreme ones, deep snow, -30c but I hate the noise and feeling of walking on snow, so it’s kind of a cringe, relax relationship 😂
      I make and teach jewellery making too 😁👋🏻

    Back in the day I was the horse wrangler at a summer camp. One of the other counselors and I had a "one match fire" competition going. We were fairly evenly matched. The rules were simple. No artificial kindling, it had to be from the ground or trees. Half the kids were on his team and the other half on mine. One day he managed to start a fire from one that had just been put out and he found a coal. The next day it rained during the trail ride. The kids were delighted and when we stopped to cook lunch they all scattered into the forest to gather as much dry wood as they could. And we did it! We lit a fire with one match and wet wood IN THE RAIN! That was deemed more difficult than lighting it from a coal so we won LOL

      I remember in my younger days in the 60s when I quit the Boy Scouts and started camping on my own. The whole family pitched in and bought me camping gear for Christmas. And I headed into the forest all by myself. It was one of the greatest adventures of my life. And the serenity was unreal. So I never really learned how to make a fire by rubbing sticks together. I did learn to appreciate a good tent. And a sterno stove. And camping in the heavy rain was divine.

    Prayers for the Carolinas for the re-emergence of Ian. Nasty nasty storm. Fortunately most of my friends are in The Villages in Central FL where we recently lived. That area was pretty good unlike the SW Coast around Sanibel and Ft. Meyers and Naples. Ugh. Terrible. I know you all are prepared. Thanks for these fine videos of your adventures and your product reviews!

    Carolina BBQ with Alabama BBQ sauce. Good combo.

  • @jamesfarmer3775
    @jamesfarmer3775 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We always call it Alabama white sauce. We stayed with friends in Muscle Shoals, went to a huge buffet, and there was white sauce there. Our buddy told us "Oh yeah, that's Alabama white sauce. You guys really have to try some." Ok. He said they usually use it on BBQ/grilled chicken. They use it like regular BBQ sauce, but really wait until close to done before basting, so it doesn't scorch. Or, like you did with the pulled pork, add it on the plate. It was surprisingly good, esp. on the grilled chicken. Another one we had trouble wrapping our heads around until we tried it was "chocolate gravy." Over biscuits, just like you would sausage gravy, only a chocolate sauce. Very different, and nearly put us in a sugar coma.... 🤪

    • @baassbooster
      @baassbooster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We also have that type of BBQ sauce here in Slovenia, EU. We prepare it at home mostly. It is made out of Thomy mayonnaise, litlle bit of vinegar made out of Grapes, Mustard,Wurtz sauce, a bit of sugar,Freshly grinded garlic and plenty of Black or White pepper and some parsley.

    Not knocking what you did. You started a fire. You got warmth. You had a delicious meal. Mission completed! I guess there are a thousand different ways to start a fire. I've never been to the Carolinas. Believe me, it's on the bucket list. I'm from Arizona. I'm not much of a desert camper. I hit the mountains like you. I guess if I have wet dry wood,( yeah, I know), I'd start batoning, like you, but one of the more promising dryer sections, I would have kept batoning into kindling. I can't explain it, but something about a freshly split surface catches a flame easily. As I said earlier in my rambling, not knocking what you did. Just a different approach. Keep ,making videos and I'll keep watching Sir.

    Kudos to the subscriber that sent you the Silky Gomboy which I recognized right away because I have a similar one. Mine is the same 240 medium teeth, however mine has plastic handles & the blade is straight instead of curved & 9.5" long. It cuts easier than any saw I've ever used & only on the pull stroke, not the push & pull strokes.
    I had to check your "Description" to learn what/how to get those fire starters.
    As a Boy Scout, we learned to make what we called "Fuzz" sticks for fire starter when wood was otherwise wet. There is always dry wood around in the wettest of conditions, you just have to know how to get to it, you did an excellent job harvesting the dry wood.
    Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.

    I'm stationed in Japan and of course Silky is used widely here. One of the locals that works with us on base explained that the cases are clear so the police and park rangers can see what it is. They want to make sure it's not some massive knife. Of course I was curious when I bought one, I figured it was some weird Japanese marketing thing. The blade rules are pretty strict here. Nothing larger than 3 inches can be carried on you, if you do have something larger, it has to be for a legit reason, like camping or work. Oh and lesson learned, I never dump a sauce on anything without tasting it first hahaha. I made that mistake once because of the packaging and it smelled nice. Turned out to be some kind of sour sauce. I was stuck eating that foulness or go hungry.

    I watched a young lady from Korea and she set up a tent in the rain. She thought it was small, but she got a cot, a table, a cooking place and still had room for at least one more bed. I thought it was funny she thought it was small. Another shelter she put up was with her vehicle and it was huge and covered most of the van with a big outdoor area and windows of an acrylic material.

    The new iPhone GPS tech is a cool start, however the iPhone is NOT robust enough to tackle the outdoors.
    I’ve had iPhones shut down when snowshoeing because it’s too cold.
    I’ve had iPhones shut down when I’m trekking in the hot desert.
    iPhones shatter far to easily when dropped.
    I use a Garmin 66i with inReach, and it is a very robust tool that withstands the elements as well as clumsy people that drop things in the cold. 😬
    I’ll stick with the 66i until they make a smart phone that can withstand the abuse of a rockslide in a hurricane.
