Jordan also took on tough competition too even though it was the era of the center. Jordan faced off against Clyde Drexler, Penny Hardaway, Magic Johnson, Mitch Richmond (Jordan called him the toughest player to guard), Reggie Miller, Joe Dumars.

    Smitty has always been an exceptional player. I don’t know that the Hawks ever really had the roster that would compliment his game. Steve could handle the ball yet he was not athletic. Great shooter but still not an exceptional athlete. I think Steve would of been better at the Power Forward position. I know he was only 6’7 / 6’8 but this would of allowed him to stretch the floor. There was not one power forward in the game that could guard him. I’ve watched Steve play at Pershing High School, and Michigan State. I truly believe that he was a great player just not in the right position OR did not have the roster to support his talents.

    I'm a Jordan fan, even got his Fleer Rookie cards but Jordan was a bit of a Prima Donna himself. Jordan has done more than that to a player that was trying to get their shot off. It's a matter of intimidating the ref and that's all. New refs got their hearts taken by top league players. The players knew who they could bully and they did. Jordan knew that ref didn't have the stones to give him a tech so he got up on him, back then you could give a ref some grief and get away with it. Now the NBA has given the refs power and they use

    • @andgar923
      @andgar923 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      a slight tap while in the air can most def affect a shot. All it really takes is a slight touch for your balance to get affected, and that wasn't a slight touch. Like you mentioned, it was a 'push' while MJ was in mid air.

    • @adrianh8569
      @adrianh8569 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, I agree but MJ has had more contact or worse fouls in the past than this one and still made it.. I guess other fouls or pushes, he's seen it coming and this one was more of a surprise from behind..

    • @meg-k-waldren
      @meg-k-waldren 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It does impact your shot drastically when you don't anticipate getting hit. Normally, when the defender is in your front vision or side vision, you're anticipating possible contact and therefore put added umpf into the your shooting motion. But in a case like that there, MJ was maybe 14 ft out and therefore thinking take a soft touch shot so as to not overshoot to begin with. Add the push you don't see from behind to a shot you're already aiming front rim on to make the basket, and that'll definitely throw your shot off.

    • @meg-k-waldren
      @meg-k-waldren 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      True but all-star players, especially MJ's caliber can still get by on that when they anticipate the contact. What really impacts the shot here is that fact that it was sneaky from behind whereby MJ couldn't anticipate it. Very difficult to make a shot when you get hit without anticipating the contact. Smith was sneaky. Gotta give em kudos.
