  • Yes Plant Lovers, the JOY in suddenly noticing flower buds on my Dendrobium victoria-reginae 'Blue Bouquet'!!!! I know this video is a year old, but watching your TH-cam had me searching for this plant. I found one and paid a ransom for a mature plant with several canes. Hopefully, my new acquisition will produce blooms as beautiful as the blooms on your Dendrobium victoriae-reginae.

    I've had two of these now, and both of mine flower from leafy canes, as well. There are okay with fairly bright light, but as you say, direct light only in the early morning/very late evening. I have gotten as many as four on a cane so far, but I haven't had them very long.

    I am still hesitant in getting one since I live in the lowland tropics where temps never go below 24 Celsius at night, i.e. very hot! Very nice to see yours very happy Mat!
    And for anyone who is curious, here are other blueish (or very blue) orchid, and unfortunately for me they are all cool or cold growers! They are dendrobium leucocyanum, dendrobium parvulum “violet blue”, and the cleisocentron genus. Happy growing!

    I have to say, my Den. victoria-reginae is doing the exact same thing! I moved it to a spot with a big more higher lights and it's now got flower buds on an older cane that still has its leaves! When I got it several months ago, it was obviously getting quite a bit of sun because the lower parts of the canes had a reddish tinge. I wonder if getting more light is the trigger as if it's thinking oh the deciduous trees have lost their leaves so it's now winter and time to bloom!

      I'm not sure but mine has another round of buds on a cane with leaves....so perhaps we should re-write the book!

    This would be why its the only one that bloomed every year in my moms freezing basement from ac in the summer. Mines a kuniko X it bloomed all summer last year
    The first few years i had mine it kept all its leaves then the 4th or 5th year the leaves fell off the old canes then thats when all the canes with no leaves bloomed all summer

    You are very entertaining and informative, a nice combination. I killed my Victoria-Reginae. I'm thinking it didn't like the heat. I'm a slave to orchids in the Southeastern United States. I do grow cool lovers, but they stay inside.

    • @helloplantlovers
      @helloplantlovers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that's a shame! But I must say mine doe get the heat too....our summers often get above 30oC - 86oF and warmer! On warm days I spray the hose about morning and evening to keep things humid and cool.
