Just saw this video and noticed what I think are a cluster of lacewing eggs on the underside of the leaf closest to the spray of flowers. What do you think? Cool to see. Great videos! Love the content.
The fragrance for me smells like old fashioned freesias. I bought one today (18/08/2024) from the St Ives Orchid Fair. I have a fairly large specimen, and am going to buy more pots over the course of this week. Drilling will commence in a few weeks. It will be a repotting fiesta on my balcony in a few weeks.
You have me sold on this one. Now my hunt has started for a seller on the east coast of the USA. Thank you for such thorough description and explanation of how you grow your orchids. I think I can sell my wife on this one…beautiful and fragrant, got to be a winner. 😉
Just bought unchained melody and am fascinated by the difference shape of the bulbs between these plants, unchained are roundish, yours are tall elongated shrivelly shaped, so interesting 😊
Hi Mathew your orchids are beautiful I wish I can visit your orchids in the garden. Hope I can get one of the Australian orchid to Trinidad in the West Indies. That one.
Thanks for watching! There are lots of tropical Australian Dendrobium species that would LOVE your climate! And in fact the Australian Cymbidium species which grow in the tropics here. Who knows! You might be able to find one!
My, goodness! 😃That’s a fabulous looking bloom👏🏻. Lovely orange/ yellow lip 🥰it. YES! I was ( jealously ☺) 👀 at your terracotta pots , they’re beautiful. Lucky you 👍🏻,great find. There is a way to make holes in to terracotta with diamond drill bit ( YT channel) ,but I am not that adventurous 😉. Thank you for sharing your very informative advice. Always enjoy seeing your indoor & outdoor growing space 👏🏻. Have a great weekend 🤗🌸🌷.
Hi Matthew, I am interested to know how you manage the orchids inside in winter with Air Conditioning. Melbourne gets pretty darn cold and I can only imagine that you would have heating, so do you have to alter the watering for the plants that you bring indoors due to the low humidity? I bring my flowering Coelogyne orchids indoors so we can admire the beautiful blooms and fragrance. At the moment, I have each plant sitting in a tray of crushed / small pebbles that I put water into so that hopefully that will create some humidity. Thanks in advance - Helen - Sydney Australia
Hi there, I don't have crazy heating so I don't really change anything. Winter is always a 'water less' time whether things are inside or outside. My plants have to deal with the ambient humidity! I don't grow anything that needs very high humidity levels.
Hi there, not very well to be honest!! I'm constantly missing noticing the baby caterpillars until they've stripped a leaf! Caterpillars are my biggest issue - I use an oil based organic spray but often just pick them off - and throw them over the fence!
Hi there, from Dark Star: darkstarorchids.com.au/ They only ever have a few of anything as they sell mostly divisions so if there's nothing on the website give them a call - brilliant plants! Good luck finding one - it loves Melbourne!
I can grow the Unchained Melody but no Cristata's or Flaccidas for me... The cristata insists in dying and the flacidda is barely hanging. 😢 But the melody rebloemed.
Perfect outside conditions obviously for your many orchids etc 💕

Probably! It lives outside with no sprays. Thanks for watching!
So happy to find a video on this orchid. There are so few info online, so I’m very thankful for your video.
Thanks for finding me!
She is absolutely LOVELY!!! The color is amazing.
Isn't it! Thanks for watching!

Hmmm.....I do find all the Unchained hybrids VERY confusing! Luckily they all take the same care conditions though!
Very beautiful! I did miss your “out of the pool!” 😆
Ha! But thanks for watching!
I love the beautiful color combos
Isn't it a beauty!
Hi Matthew, You have so many beautiful orchids . When you have to divide them, what do you do with all your extra plants
I haven't really arrived at that point with my plants. I do like large specimen plants so I haven't had the need to divide anything yet!
Gorgeous plant mathew and love the pot. Your plants are all Gorgeous though.
Thank you - though you don't see the 'troubled' ones!
Do you know Matthew, you could take a regular old terra-cotta pot and drill holes in them with diamond cutting bits.
I could indeed......

So beautiful ! Since I have been watching your coelogyne's viddeo, I'm starting to love this plant. thanks.
Thank you - me too - and as they seem to love my conditions I have a few now!

@@helloplantlovers Thanks Matthew, good to know what you are doing. Cheers
You are correct, it should have two N's. Jannine Banks, registered by David Banks of Australia in 1995. A cross of Coel. mooreana and Coel. flaccida.
There we are! Thank you.
Does it regrow on the same bulb?
It won't re-flower from an old bulb - only from new ones.
Hi Mathew, could you please tell me how do you control pests on your plants that live outside?
