Not only did we bark at my TXT concert in Georgia, but we also MEOWED!!! Lol cause Yeonjun and Kai asked us too. Imagine that; just a huge arena all screaming: "LET'S PLAY FOREVER, I JUST WANNA BE A DOG!!!" BUT then you hear us all go "MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW!!"😂😂 Was honestly THE best night!!

I’m sharing the following since I noticed that people are barking at sporting events and concerts. This goes back a little over 35 years ago, honest really. Me and some youngsters that attended Garfield High School, attended some football games from 1985, 1986, 1987. In honor of our High School Mascot, The Bulldog representing Garfield High School. This high school was spotlighted in the movie Stand and Deliver starring Lou Diamond Phillips. Zip Code 90022 East Los Angeles, Ca. When the football games began to get boring, we started barking, either “Woof, Woof” or “Ruff, Ruff” “Go Bulldogs”. Then one weekend it happened, in 1987 (I think ?) one of our barking friends joined The Garfield High School Marching Band and they went to Dodger Stadium, they all started barking there and waving their fists in the air. That’s all the bark needed to go world wide. Then, Arcenio Hall adopted the bark as part of his show. You’ll want to locate Planet Patrol on TH-cam, they’re famous for being New York Electro Funk artists, they barked in 1983 on their song “Play at your own risk” barking meant that their song was hot and exciting. : )

I read this and thought why aren’t you barking at k-pop concerts😂

I totally agree that about the different energies being a thing here. I think the woofing in kpop is way different from sports since furries are much more prevalent in the community. And we have seen instances were fans also meow instead of just barking.
This goes to show that despite it’s the same woofing chant the energy and the intent is way different. In kpop I think the woofing is to represent we the fans are your dogs and we are barking and drooling for you much like dogs do

Maybe it’s because I’m a millennial, but I find it cringy. 😂 Like you mentioned, I associate the “barking” more with sporting events and that vibe just doesn’t fit a k-pop concert to me.

I really does depend on the artist. I understand you 100% though. For example agust d and Jackson wang have more mature and hype sounds but more young and cute vibe kpop groups it can sound cringy lol

I think I'm also a millenial (being born at the very end of it which makes it quite unsure tbh), and I have noticed that many trends that comes from the Generation Z can often be quite embarassing haha. Maybe they think they are being cool or because the K-pop industry have a lot of animals references, I have no idea.

As an Atiny (Ateez) and Mingi stan I learned that fans ... particularly Mingi stans ... bark for Mingi at concerts and it's something he started that became a thing. It's literally a woof woof, not a whoop or whatever. I've seen different reasons given for it but I think, and I'm not completely sure, that it's become something like acknowledging him as an Alpha male and our 'admiration' for him. Admiration meaning different things for different people.
Being in the US I'm familiar too with the whooping at sports events or various other things and I think it started as a predominantly male thing until Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts did it, I think at a horse race event if I remember correctly. In the movie it was meant to show that she wasn't 'classy' or wasn't acting feminine or whatever, which I think just prompted females to start doing it more.
But yeah, I guess it's not quite the same thing in K-Pop ... separate from the Mingi specific thing which is a Mingi specific thing. 😜 I haven't been to an Ateez concert yet but when I do go to one it will be the one exception where I will bark for a man, and only because I don't see it as the same thing as barking for a man in other situations where you're being treated like a dog.

I think it’s weird that it is happening at Kpop Concerts for me honestly I don’t do it . I was there for that Twice Concert & I just say “Dubu” when I see her. If I see TXT in Concert & the song Cat & Dog plays that’s the only time I will bark haha

No you're right. Every kpop concert I've been at has been excited to hear barking. But I like your philosophy for life better, where there's unnecessary goal posts for fun and enjoyment. Are you JD Vance, by chance?

  • @vixikie

I have not heard of this barking before. I don't know if we have this in my country, I never go to sporting events. I have noticed that many trends that comes from the Generation Z can often be quite embarassing haha. Maybe they think they are being cool or because the K-pop industry have a lot of animals references, I have no idea. Maybe they also just want to be funny and make idols confused haha.
