    This 31 day 790 km walk along the Camino de Santiago from Roncesvalles to Fiinisterre along the Camino Frances in November and December 2019.
    The Camino de Santiago, known in English as the Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrims' ways or pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried.
    The Camino Francés (French Way) is the most popular of the routes, with the most deep-rooted historical tradition. Typically it takes at least four weeks to cover the 790 km long route, allowing for a few days rest days along the way. The walk to Finisterre adds another 89 km.

    Wonderful story and beautiful photography. So happy to watch a Camino that doesn't treat the Camino as a check off someone's bucket list. Loved the serenity of the trail in winter. Do a follow up on the challenges walking in the winter poses. Was there any time when you couldn't find accommodations. It seems we older folks, who are tortugas, make the jpurney successfully. Nothing succeeds like persistence, said President Calvin Coolidge.

      Wow, Thank you! I never had a problem with accommodation, a hospitalero at one of the first albergues recommended I use the aprinca website. .www.aprinca.com/alberguesinvierno/
      It was always kept up to date with all the open albergues at the end of each stage.

    I have walked the Camino's Frances and Portugues. My first thought when I watched this video was way too cold and solitary a time to walk the Camino for me, but then I got to thinking how fortunate you were to have walked it just before the pandemic changed everything and who knows how long it will be before I can walk the Camino again.
    Good video. Thanks.

    Thanks for this beautiful and (compared with so many other "Camino-movies" here on TH-cam) unusual documentary! I had planned my first "walking Camino" this summer -- I have done two "del Nortes" on bicycle with my daughter so far. The tranquility and beauty of northern Spain in the winter, as you show it, gives me hope that I may still do my Camino this year.

      I mostly stayed in albergues. There is always an albergue open at the end of a stage in winter. If you want to stay in between stages you would have to stay in hotels. Gronze.com publishes a constantly updated list of albergues that are open in the winter months.

    Enjoyed that, Rolf. I added your video to my public playlist "Camino de Santiago: documentaries".
    I have some questions:
    ― How busy was the Camino in late autumn?
    ― How many Albergues / cafés / bars en route are open?
    ― Did you take a bigger backpack for the extra clothing you'd likely need?
    Anyway, thanks for posting. It's good to see a Camino filmed out of season.

    • @rolfscaminos
      @rolfscaminos  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am glad you enjoyed it. As to your questions. There were few pilgrims on the route in winter... I just finished the Frances for the second time a few weeks ago and I started in mid October and there were still plenty of pilgrims. Most places along the Frances close November 1st. But Aprinca publishes a lust of albergues that stay open. You don't need a bigger backpack for winter...

      Thank you Dave. There were quite a few pilgrims on the Camin, but fewer toward Xmas. There were always albergues open at the end of each stage, and the same group of about 10 to 15 pilgrims would show up each night.There is a list of Albergues that are open in winter that gets updated daily. It came in handy closer towards XMas. Here is the link Aprinca Albergues de Invierno list. www.aprinca.com/alberguesinvierno/

I actually didn't do the Camino for any particular reason other than to see if I was able to walk it all the way.To me it was just another long meditation (I have been meditating for over 21 years...) I didn't have any revelations or emotional breakdown or breakthroughs like some people have... But now I am hooked on hiking and I am getting ready to do the Camino del Norte and the Portugues back to back in a few weeks... That is, if Covid lets me...

    Very relaxing and enjoyable story. Tnx for it, and congratulations! I have a question about winter walking the cammino frances->> do you need to buy food for 2 or more days in advance ( what about markets for food resuply?- do the stay opened during winter time in most of the towns/ villages? )

    • @rolfscaminos
      @rolfscaminos  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am glad you enjoyed it. There is no need to buy extra food on the Frances in the winter. You may want some extra snacks. On some stages there are fewer services such as bars and cafes after November 1st, but usually there are always places to eat and stock up at the end of each stage.

      Hi, There was always an albergue open at the end of each daily stage, but the closer you get to XMAS there are less so you really have to stick to the list of open albergues that is published and updated online. www.aprinca.com/alberguesinvierno/

    • @rolfscaminos
      @rolfscaminos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am glad you ask as I was alway laughing at how I would set up my phone... I actually never had the intention of making a youTube video out of it... I just was messing around with my new phone could do as I bought in Pamplona a few days into the walk. I didn't have a tripod... hence all the low angles. I just found some large stones and sturdied the phone by placing one in front and one in the back..:) But I actually ended up liking the angles, and probably would never would have gotten so low down otherwise. Once in a while I would put the phone on the muddy embankment or on the guard rail or a Camino milage marker on the side of the camino to get a higer view. For the boot shots and most of the ones where you I am filming myself I had a super cheap 10 euro selfie stick... Amazingly enough my phone survived without a scratch. :) Hope that was of some help to you...

    • @rolfscaminos
      @rolfscaminos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roberto,
      I don't have a packing list right now but I am finishing a spreadsheet that calculates the weight of everything you pack. If you use a Mac I can send it to you.
      For my walk I used a pair old hiking boots and a pair of sneakers as they were well worn in... I never got any blisters. Initially I took with a pair of flip flops to use in the showers at the albergues, but I got rid of them as did't really use them as it was too cold.
      I do recommend you use some very high quality socks as they will keep your feet dry and blister free. I took 3 pairs of Wigwam brand Hiking socks, I highly recommend them.
      As far as clothing I took more than I really needed and got rid of some stuff along the way. Most albergues or hostels have washer - driers, so if you take clothes for 3 days you will not have to wash clothes every day.
      Hope this is of some help.
