Let’s be real it’s not for the fans, it’s for their bank accounts. If it was for the fans they’d stick it on TH-cam for nothing, this is because they’re getting older and want to play less while securing a revenue stream because nobody buys albums anymore and they know they probably haven’t got another good one in them anyway and streaming music pays sod all so they’ve done this and that’s fine.. just don’t delude your self. And before I get told I’m an arsehole I say all this as a fan.

is there really a "real way" when it comes to guitar? even if it's an octave up or down from original way it was played its still the same notes. also just cause some play one way on a record don't mean they play the exact same way live. so we really never know what the "real way" is.
check out Andriy Vasylenko's channel, he studied cliff and has a bunch of really accurate covers with tab
@@6footmidget214 The "real way" is the exact way they play it. Point blank. An octave up or down? Higher/lower on the fretboard? Alternative picking techniques? Sure it sounds right in the ballpark, but it's not the original play style. The real way. It's not that complicated, James touches on it himself in the video.

You basically have to pick like James to get as fast as his.. he has a very unorthodox picking style
I can’t down pick 16ths that fast so I downpick three of them and do an upstroke and then another three.

yeah his down picking arm is a life hack... ridiculous.. back when i was 20 and on suboxones they would give me alot of energy and i worked out for solid 4 years straight at the time shredded head to toe with veins.. it was only at a moment in that time where i could play something like master of puppets at the right BPM.. and that was only on some random days where it just happened.. most the time was just a struggle
That's....actually really cool a band of this caliber took the time out of their schedules to do this for aspiring musicians. I find new reasons to respect this band more and more every day.

No kidding! Back in the 90s I played bass and learned on my own. I ended up stopping but if I had these learning tools, I'm sure I would have been good.
@@mrx1333 I started learning guitar like two years ago when I turned 14 and now I am thinking if I was living in the 80s or 90s, I would never be able to progress this fast and I would probably quit. So yeah we can consider ourselves really lucky

You have hundreds of great FREE lessons on youtube, whether it's on a specific technique, or song you want to learn (specially Metallica songs...). On top of that you have free tab websites like Songsterr and very talented guitar teachers online that give very affordable lessons.
I started playing guitar in 2020 and after 2 years, I have progressed immensly by using the things I've mentioned. The only money I have spent to learn guitar was for the gear itself...

Exactly. I learnt it wrong and was shown "the supposedly right way" and that was really wrong LOL. Than the first time I saw them I saw what I was doing wrong. And I have seen many others play it but they were wrong too. So my plan as a 50+ old metal head is check this out.

I've been learning Metallica's discography since 2006, when I started playing the guitar. I've been coding iOS apps professionally for 2,5 years now, with that same level of enthusiasm I had for guitar as a teenager.

I learned to play Metallica the old school way when I was a kid. My CD player, AJFA and looping One for hours just to get the intro down. Sounded shitty but it was my stepping stone.
Same for me. A songbook full of mistakes, weird tabs on the internet and a cd player. It really made me hungry.
All great things are built open a pile o' shite ;). As soon as the poo gets hard, you can use it as a stepping stone.
Yup! Everything comes out all choppy and flat but you can kinda make out what you're trying to play. Screaming for your parents to come and watch you, so they have to be like "yeah! great..."

I saw the thumbnail in my recommened, I thought it was just gonna be yousician added their songs with half assed tabs, but after watching the video, seems like the tabs are actaully looked at by Metallica for errors, and all of em actually helped out making sure its correct, so good job guys for actually caring

I wish that I had stuff like this when I was learning how to play. I had to buy cassettes and cds over and over again, because I would wear them from listening and learning riffs, along with MTV videos that I would record on VHS tapes. I never took a guitar lesson in my life, and I had to learn by ear. The people that are just getting into guitar playing now have it made with the internet. If you are getting into play a musical instrument, not matter what musical instrument it is, DON'T GIVE UP!!!! GOD bless!!!
When i was a child i bought every autorised trascription of your songs from Kill'em all to master of puppets. I think today it's easier to learn them like this

This would have been awesome when I was 15 & learning to play Metallica riffs from those tab books and guitar magazines. I used to know the majority of Metallica's catalog minus the solos.
So different from learning by myself playing listening overs and overs in a room with my stereo, wow this is cool for the youngsters, like a personal class with Metallica, AWSOME!

I know like James play drums on guitar and Lars play guitar on drums, it's just that kind of connection they built over the years going into some instrument not knowing so much just playing to change direction in life since neither James or Lars wanted to grow up to be fulfill whatever direction their parents initially wanted them to go, that's kind of their common thing and that's why they write music together :)
Very cool that they took the time to give back to the fans like this. We can always pick up our guitars and read the music and tabs but most of the time they aren't 100 percent and someone with an ear for tones and music in general can hear it when I play it back on my guitar. It's great that they can show us they way they wrote it. It may be more difficult than tabs show but practice makes perfect.

@@larryb4598 I think you are mixing up copy with influence and covers are just that covers, I have seen metallica a few times never sounded clunky to me, a couple of sound issuse's here and there the odd mistake by the band perhaps? nothing unusual about that for any touring band but if you can do better please feel free to show the world your totally original flawless album/s ....you know what to do otherwise : )

Back in the day I had an electric guitar and I had Metallica Song books with all the tablature. Back then I could play the main rift of Master of Puppets all down stroke as fast as the recording. I wasn’t good enough to play the whole song though. As I grew up, I figured I wasn’t serious about playing guitar so I gave it up. 😅 I haven’t played guitar so long I probably suck now 😂

This is great for new player's, so cool! When I first picked up a guitar at age 11 back in 1985 I had limited instruction until my late teens, now at 47 I'm very fourtune to have a very good ear and can basically learn a song just by listening to it a few times

Started learning guitar 5 months ago and now this is the only TH-cam ad I ever get.
Thank you Metallica for introducing me to Yousician! So far in loving y'all's course! I'm hoping I learn how to play the whole songs (both James and Kirk's parts). That was me when I first started out playing guitar. Metallica and iron maiden made me want to pick up the guitar. I was a trumpet player ( a really good one) and my dad was like "yo you want a guitar" and I said no way... Not knowing I would be playing guitar for hours everyday . My first song was master of puppets.

This is very accurate. However, I stay away from studio versions and stick with them live. They play FASTER (which I think is important), they harmonize, and it’s just raw and insane talent. I’ve learned tons of songs and built stamina from playing along with them

James.... please tell us why the 3 finger technique. Tried it for like 2 weeks and gave up. felt great for cleans but man... could not get used to down picking
There's an interview out the where he talks about this. He said it felt natural to him because that's the way he learned to write with a pencil.
it's just easier to mute the string, nothing else
took me atleast a year to get used to...but found that for alternate picking it made it easier almost right away so pushed on. after more than 10 years the "normal" way feels very weid.
mind you. do what works for you.
Meh. I've tried Yousician before but it wasn't that great. I just use Songsterr it's far better and easier to use IMO.

I fucking love this! MetallicA is a family with the fans. We are 100% family! They wear their age like a Badge of Honor! Some bands are too cool for the room. MetallicA gives back to those who supported them and even those who have no clue about The MetallicA Family. Thank God for James Hetfield and what his music and attitude did for me in 1988 when I was 13. It was really rough but I actually saved myself. I couldn't have done it without The MetallicA FAMILY!!!
