    Hello Travis. I'm useless at the sheet metal side of things but ok with some mechanical stuff. A couple of observations. Those swivel balls often have oversize tapers. Reaming is ok but turning the tapers down to the stock Ford size may be preferable. Angle is 7 degrees inclusive. The steering arms are tapered so the tie rod fits from underneath. You might not have to bend the arms as much if at all. The nuts from the U bolt sets have oversize hexs on them. Stock 1/2" UNF nuts are 3/4 af. Oh yeah, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but you need a new jack! Lol. All the best, Mart in England.

    Travis has the patience of a monk with his boy. I’d be too nervous he’d get hurt but you’re the kind of dad I wish I’d had..

    The wide-5's look great on that RPU, and that was classic getting your helper to stop right in the middle of the profile shot...

    I am 76 and thats what i remember how it went, except you have a building to do it in, with real tools and a air compresser instead of a hand pump, but every else was the same, good job sir!

      Wrong you don’t use grease on the rim , that’s a no , no you use soap and water or silicone

    • @usmclee65
      @usmclee65 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't mean using grease, I meant busting your ass to get tires on rims !

    Good thing that was a narrow wheel. You put it on the back, wide side of the wheel. The front has a narrower width to get the tire over.

    A little soapy water will make that tire job a lot easier. I used to fix a lot of flats back in the day. 30 on a Saturday. Plus pumping gas and washing windshields.

    There is usually a painted dot on the tire where you align it to the valve stem hole.

    Dec 1965 snow around the corner would be coming to Pennsylvania, I needed snow tires for my Mustang 2+2 fastback, the local body shop gave me a deal if I mounted them using his manual changer. I had watched his employees use the changer without problems always liked to here the loud bead 'pop', "Sure, I can use the air hose". The rear tires arrived, his shop closed at 5 but the office was open to 8 pm for insurance quotes and customer pickup. I got there about 5:30 pm soon my styled steel wheels center hole would not clear the changer's threaded center post because Ford used a small snap on cover disk!
    The owner disappeared into his supply room returning with 2 empty cardboard cartons to protect the rim's chrome from the concrete floor then directed me in the use of 2 tire irons and a rubber mallet before disappearing to the office. I got both summer tires dismounted but mounting the first winter tire I got the wheel inside the beads!

    Be sure to record the frame numbers under the body by the cross member next to the transmission in case you need them if you chose to title the car. Those numbers may be critical if they even exist.

    Thought that those old rims didn't have the bead that pops like modern wheels. That's why you have to run tubes because there is no positive step in the bead area for the wheel to hold the tire with just air pressure. That's what the tubes are for. At least that's how I understood it.
    In case you address it coming up I'm only at 16:09 in the video

    I have the same spindles and very similar spring setup… the tie rod ball install from the bottom (taper is already there) and the tie rod clears without bending the steering arms. Also for seating beads I use RU Glyde (shouldn’t use petroleum products on rubber) and remove the valve core for more airflow and use a clamp on chuck without a valve depressor.

    That floor jack is gonna get somebody hurt. Harbor Freight has 2 ton models at $119 and your kid is worth it. Look at about 1:46 on your video, is that safe enough?

    I use a rubber hammer to belt the tyre on. Liquid soap for lube . Grease and oil attack rubber. Leave them in the sun with plenty of pressure and eventually they’ll pop.

    Try using some cheap sockets to drop in the holes for your pullmax dies so they don’t drop all the way in the holes.

    I like the tire set up. Probably could stand being a little lower in the front...but not much.

    Put a ratchet strap around the tire then add the air and it will pop right on the rim

    For one you should of cleaned the beads of the rims then lightly lube then lube tire after you baby powdered them then mount and they would of seated like ya wanted them to

  • @toddbader6104
    @toddbader6104 ปีที่แล้ว

    Putting air in that tube before you mount the second bead is just begging to pinch a tube.
