    You're so right about kids today not appreciating bikes (well the vast majority, I remember passing schools in the 80s on my RD350 LC and all the lads would be waving and giving the wheelie sign.

    Its the rear cylinder deactivation to help with the heat the engine gives off I had one the very first Panigale V4s's back in 2018. When it went into the dealers for a recall one of the updates was a map to deactivate the rear cylinder at lower speeds especially in town to help reduce the excessive heat issue. When I got it back it did help with the heat. After the first batch of V4s went onto the market Ducati introduced the rear cylinder deactivation from the middle of 2018. My 2020 V4 does run alot cooler than my 2018 V4. So that's what your experiencing it's running on the front two cylinders momentarily but only when your taking it easy at lower speeds. Although the naked V4 Street fighter shouldn't suffer with the build up of heat anywhere near as much as the faired V4.
    Keep up the good work great reviews as always.✔😁

    The silence at 31mph is the exhaust valves closing. I purchased a HEALTECH plugin for my V4 (About 30 quid) that plugs straight in and keeps the valves open permanently.

    I have to agree with you on the handling, Andy. I've ridden hundreds of different model motorcycles and owned some great handling handling bikes like CBR's and S1000RR's, but my Streetfighter V4S is my favorite to date. And so comfortable too! Coupled with that mega V4, it's a revelation. Owners of pre-ordered Multistrada's will probably be pretty happy too I'd imagine.

      I share the same disappointment 😂 it's such a shame that they don't appreciate things like bikes anymore. I do know that they pay a lot more attention to supercars though. Was going through Evesham last week on my MV Agusta Brutale and there was McLaren 765LT behind me, it was like I wasn't even there!! I suppose supercars just look better and are way more expensive 🤷

I can try to tell you just how incredible it is, but you won't really know until you try it yourself!!!! I've owned a lot of bikes in my time, but this is my favorite!! It's great at everything,,, slow cruising around town, highway riding,,,,,you just have to be careful because it's so easy to ride fast and that can get you into trouble.

    On the newer V4s, there might be a setting to shut the rear bank of cylinders to lower the heat and fuel consumption at lower speeds. Sort of a parallel twin.

    Few things I've learned after 3 months of ownership.. 1) Too much plastic (Wife has twigged on to my accessory spending!) 2) No fuel gauge. (However I hear from a Ducati mechanic its because the fuel tank goes under the seat they have been unable to make a sender that gives accurate fuel level readings.. The cost and time to perfect was prohibitive). 3) the slack in the throttle, which you have fixed already. I used 2 quids worth of wire heat shrink to fix mine!

    Back cylinders cut out at low speeds to reduce heat on the seat which was one of the biggest issues with the V4 on the panigale

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But this effect is only at a very specific set of parameters at 31mph in 4th only - you'd expect the cylinder cutting thing to happen over a wider set of speed/rev ranges....I think this is a way to circumvent some noise regs....or am I being cynical?

    • @bobcarter5548
      @bobcarter5548 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheMissendenFlyer Lol !! I would say you were right but this was told to me by the marketing manager of Ducati at the NEC on launch. It was in response to me discussing the heat issue so prevalent on the early Pani's. Over 31mph, you need the cylinders and the wind blast will be enough to cool the back pots. Helps that it is quiet also I guess. :-). I still want one all the same. Great bike.

    Recon that noise is the exhaust valve moving, my 1100 scrambler does that. 😊 Ducati do things in a weird way most things are fitted and finished in an appealing way then you look at something elce and think it looks like it's been tacked on as an after thought. The horn and seat release on my Scrambler and the steering damper on that. 🤔

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you’re probably right Scott - the Streetfighter is beautifully made but a few small details let I’d down - cables running alongside the engine is another....

  • @stephenhadley2490
    @stephenhadley2490 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s a sneaky workaround for drive by noise tests. If you look on the plate on the bike it will say the decibels as tested at a certain rpm in a certain gear. The scrambler 1100 does the same thing. Basically it’s an electric flap that quietens the exhaust just to pass the test.

    nice video Andy. Question for you.
    What degree would you say your knees are bent at? what I mean is, if your sitting on the seat and your thigh to the tank lets say is straight. The top of your knee down to the foot peg is what im interested in. Lets say the GS, the multistrada etc is straight down. How does the SF compare? Does your knee bend backwards to get to the peg? like the Tuono lets say? Or does your foot go straight down. My one knee isnt that great so I dont want the pegs to go back wards alot. The Diavel has a lovely seating position and knee to peg line. How does this stack up?
    Thanks mate.

    Great start to a Monday morning. So the big question is, taking price into consideration, which would you go for? This one, the new Triumph or the KTM?

    • @RSfiregod
      @RSfiregod 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KTM if you like to hoon around. Although the new one is more toned down to aim on speed and not wheelies.
      Ducati if you love italian looks and want to pay for having the fastest most electronic supernaked.
      Triumph if you like to have a fast bike where the edges are smoothed of the best (read: smooth and powerfull riding)
      Aprillia tuono: the engine and maybe the looks if you like italian, but not ducati.
      All in all all these bikes are in terms of power and features quite similar. When choosing one you should ride these four and see which one suits you. And the best thing is not to judge on looks. Triumph always looked ugly to me, but the street triple got my love for how the engine sounds/rides and performs

    I think the biggest difference between the youth of to day and when I was that age many moons ago. Cars were damn expensive and for the more well healed bikes within reach

      I mean cars can be inexpensive ( I had a friend who kept getting £300 cars which limped to their MOT every year( but God is insurance expensive, like £1000+ especially for a 17 year old. That's why I started riding and still could not afford to drive a car now I'm 27! I just couldn't afford the insurance.

      Back in the 70s you could get a good second hand car for a lot less than I paid for a new Honda 750. Also the insurance was a lot cheaper on the car. But I just wanted a bike, always preferred to be on two wheels. Most youngsters today would rather have a car.

    • @genuinecomments4008
      @genuinecomments4008 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wish I knew the answer. When you see bikes now getting anywhere between 12 - £20 it’s an expensive purchase. Example; cars and a lot of bikes are nearly always PCP doesn’t really matter which you choose to buy the monthly payment V the value and mileage is the same and probably the 2nd most expensive item you buy after a house. It’s the monthly payment that dictates affordability and £200 on a bike or £200 a month on a car make your choice. Ride on your own or drive with your mates.
      That’s why it’s us older guys that buy a lot of the bikes we have the spare income for it.. maybe they don’t want to get wet and cold anymore and getting in a car v jumping on a bike is so much easier. You have to want to ride and that desire to me is being taken away at a young age. I started with a bike with an aspiration to get a car one day. Now you don’t need to aspire anymore.

    • @maybe5883
      @maybe5883 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or, it requires work and effort to obtain one, learn how to ride, maintain it etc.. which means one has to leave the sofa, or video game and show some ambition. How many young adults can drive a manual transmission? I know lots of 18 year olds that don’t want their drivers license, odd times we live in.
