Wow, how cool to stumble across this one. Wayne's is my big brother (out of the 6 siblings he is the eldest and I'm the baby)and he would find this so very cool. I'll pass it on to him. BTW, he never ever had a single lesson, it all just came from the gut so to speak. Good job and Thanx for the respect!

Your brother is a legend. I wish he could teach beginners like me and my sons, how to play the guitar. Can you convince him to record some online lessons? Perhaps, do a masterclass? He never had a single lesson?!? I guess he was born to do it, then. He didn't choose to play the guitar. The guitar chose him!!!

That was awesome, and I really appreciate it. This is a song I want for my band to play, and I have been having difficulty picking up the Perkins solo off of the recording. Great tone, by the way, and a very nice guitar. Thanks again! BZ.

Thanks for the tips. I've been playing this by ear and was in the in the right place but playing notes in E pentatonic minor. This solo is easy to overlook but the feeling is what makes it great. Even though I was not hitting it note for note I was trying to get the tone and feel right. Thanks!!

hey thanks for the kind words, im glad i could help out. I hear a lot of the same type of feedback that there is no good tab or anything for it so i wanted to help others play it.
Yeah I love my Music Man guitar..they are so underrated. As for the tone i realized afterwards that I had my EVH phase 90 phaser on the whole time which is kind of interesting. BTW I like the videos of your old band soupline in the LBC.

Hey man, my electric guitar skills have rocketed over the months. Love it.
I was a complete noob when I first watched this. I've just discovered the 'pinch harmonic', I figured it might be the key to getting that one super high note (1:34) and damn, now I see you saying the same thing!

No...the solo was played with a compression pedal. And the end what you hear, is some plain sustain with some feedback, The 2 octave higher are created by feedback, The reverb was added on by the engineer.

Mr Bangor, I finally got that electric guitar. Ibanez GRX70, ye know. After practising this solo, as well as two others, on an acoustic guitar with .012 strings, it's so easy to do it on an electric guitar it almost ain't special anymore. My dream of playing this guitar solo completely naturally has finally come true.
    One love.

Thanks - that was a long time ago indeed! At the time there were several bands on the scene playing the same places, but the only one that made it was Sublime, which makes sense since they were easily the best one.... :.) We used to share stages and share equipment, and do gigs where we would just alternate sets. There was another band called Busface that I liked a lot as well. But Sublime was the best. Eric lived behind me down in the Shore, & Bud was at Billings with Chris and Shorts.

@DrsJacksonn cool im glad it helped you. sorry if it wasnt quite detailed enough but im sure you will get it after a bit. My strings are 9's so they are definitely small, but not any "softer" than any other electric strings. if you are talking about your finger tips just play everyday for a while and they won't hurt. if you are talking about the muscles in your hand it's kind of the same just work at it through the pain within reason and your muscles will develop and get stronger. cheers.

@MrBangor A'ight, I get it. Mind I'm just practising this on an acoustic guitar (in case I'll ever get my hands on an electric one) and my strings are 11' or 12' I believe. Anyway, I'm just trying to play the same notes you do, but on different strings to make it a bit more do-able. I'm currently at about 4:00, once I'm through with this piece I guess I'll have the hardest part behind me. Thanks again.

Thank you for this explanation, I might now finally get to play my favorite guitar solo ever. I just wish you slowed down a bit more and closed up to your fretboard even further. See, I'm just a mediocre among the beginners.
Also, is it safe to say that your strings might be softer than mine? Or is it just that you're used to those sort of finger techniques? cause with the sore fingers I've got from yesterday's practice, the hammer-on and -off notes on the 12th fret are next to impossible.

oh cool.... so how does a reverb pedal produce a note an octave higher? I've never used a reverb pedal before but i didnt think that they messed with the octaves of the notes.

    what are "sprots"?

  • @MrBangor
    @MrBangor  13 ปีที่แล้ว

@MrBangor oh this would be really hard to play properly on an acoustic... you cant really bend the strings a whole tone on acoustic guitar and there are quite a few bends in this. get yourself a used electric and small amp (you can easily do that for around $100) and you wont be sorry you did... so much easier to play for something like this.

.... "but stil your not peter tosh"? He never said he was? And it's not peter tosh that's playing this solo! It's Wayne Perkins. Peter never even was leadguitar in the wailers..
    Stop hating
