Jeff Minter would be all over this. He's an independent game programmer who's been going since the 80s; more recently he's made a VR game called Polybius which features in a NIN video, the audio visualisation effects on the Xbox 360 (he was one of the very first people to work on that sort of thing) and various trippy versions of the old arcade shooter Tempest. His games are all about reaching a flow state by being ever-so-nearly overwhelmed by the sounds and eye candy.

My four stages of playing any tetris game: 1. First 4 levels: chill. Get a few tetris here and there. 2. 5th level a slight bit of panic, but doable. 3. levels 6 and up: OH SHIIII-- 4. Misplace a single block and then give up.
They have done everything right in this game. I cannot put it down. Even when I get frustrated and stuck on a level, I want to keep trying. The music, the visuals are absolutely stunning and take you somewhere else altogether, even whilst trying to stay focused on the game. Loads of thought has gone into this and it shows.
When, and if, we meet other intelligent species, we should show them this. This is something simple, yet refined and beatiful to the point that it could overcome the species' barrier.
As a person who has played the first one all the way up to this one, I just glad that this game has continued to evolve and retain the ability to engage people even this long in it's lifespan. I would say that the art in this game is the fact that a simple game with a simple premise has outlasted some of the so called great game franchises out there. Not to mention that studies show that playing tetris over time can increase brain efficiency and grey matter thickness. I'm glad the creator of tetris was able to share it with the rest of world.
Dang, this is basically Tetris with RTX infused with magic that'd come out of the tip of gandalf's staff. This is so fucking cool. Good thing I got a 144hz monitor, good headphones and a mediocre gpu because I'm buying this sucker on Epic Games.

just bought this game last night on PSN, streamed it tonight, never felt so relaxed playing a tetris game before like this one, i usually do lvl 18 tetris on the nes, but this it a totally different way of seeing the game now and i love it :)
When made a T-spin, it says “T-spin (Depends on lines cleared)” On the left of the board, like Tetris and (insert number here) REN. But instead it’s background colour is yellow
I wish there was a DJ mode, where the blocks just fall through the bottom of the screen and never pile up. But you can still make noises by rotating, sliding blocks, and maybe pressing the enter key would make it advnace a step, like you got a higher score. There is something special about the way that the noises match the music. I really like it.
This is better than ASMR! It's also neat how as you play, it makes music when you move! (Shoutouts from a guy who had Super Monkey Ball as a kid, by the way!)

I will use this game as same way I use Rez+VR at bed, playing the very easy mode before my insomnia nights ! Thanks so much Sony and PS4, you saved my life.
Ok but can we just appreciate how amazing 8:45 sounds and looks? It seriously is timed so perfectly, and the visuals look amazing.
This game is all I've asked for for my birthday this year. I've never felt the way I do when I look at it. I have insane anxiety, and this game looks/sounds like what I want my brain to be like when it's calm. Thanks for putting the word out there about it, Nick!
💕
The description 👌😤
Lofi tetris beats👌😫👏
Mizuguchi taking a video game classic into a whole new level of excellence
THE BLOCKS MASON WHAT DO THEY MEAN
MASON:WE'RE ALL CONNECTED
I laughed way harder than I should've x)
Honestly - I dont care if you're a pro or casual gamer, as long as a player is playing and winning, I could just watch them and be entertained by the visuals and music...one of the most simplest games made visually amazing
The sheer audio and visual spectacle is fantastic. The music is lovely, the second stage having my favorite song so far.
the idea of the aesthetic changing drastically for each level is genius
Day one, we've been taught to use our brain
Wisdom was more powerful that strength, money or fame
But now things evolved, and life has changed
But I wonder, is the pursuit of happiness the same?
We all have more questions than ever
Who will be the first to find all the answers?
Open the doors to see what comes after
Discover what will be humanity's next chapter
fucking furry
Very mature on your part
Humanity's next chapter is apparently another plague.
[insert the most magical graphics I've seen since Terraria Lunar Events]
Thanks for posting this. Perfect to listen to while studying.
I just want to watch this forever. Don’t ever stop.
The 2nd level, Pharaoh’s Code, is by far my favorite level. The song and the design of the blocks and the background just make it top tier.
I never thought Tetris could be so beautiful 😢
3:30 this hit HARD! The timing was so good!
for like the first 10 secs i was like, "is that the background music, it sounds lit" and when i look at the screen i find out its just the player moving around.
The game generates parts of the music based on player input.
The whole idea of stasis mode is to create a crescendo in the soundtrack!
Tetris effect + professional player =
Satisfying and incredible music 👍👍👍👍👍💯% incredible
an absolute joy to watch stoned in class. good tetris playin man. my back hurts a bit
Looks amazing but I never realised how frustrating watching someone else playing Tetris was! Haha... noo don’t put the block there!! Noo >.< great vid! Can’t wait for the release and to play it in VR! :D love the music and effects
Let's Play Retro Games! Right!
And people say you can't improve on perfection.
My four stages of playing any tetris game:
1. First 4 levels: chill. Get a few tetris here and there.
2. 5th level a slight bit of panic, but doable.
3. levels 6 and up: OH SHIIII--
4. Misplace a single block and then give up.
Squishy Just downloaded Tetris Effect Connected, November 9th cannot come fast enough!
Man i miss the last years leading up to 2020
They have done everything right in this game. I cannot put it down. Even when I get frustrated and stuck on a level, I want to keep trying. The music, the visuals are absolutely stunning and take you somewhere else altogether, even whilst trying to stay focused on the game. Loads of thought has gone into this and it shows.
agreed!
Why do I feel “moved” watching this? Like I have tears?
Brian Chen It’s beautiful and hypnotic...I had a similar reaction, especially when thinking about how must feel in VR.
something about it is inspiring
thank you so much for uploading this
This isn’t a game, it’s an experience
:')
Audio mechanism is like Lumines. I wonder how many skins (?) will this game have.
Also, nice reference to Rez Area 1 on the second gameplay.
I thought the same thing! The ‘wireframe hieroglyphics’ vibe is extremely Rez to me.
I want a Rez and Lumines skin fot this game!
Dang, this is basically Tetris with RTX infused with magic that'd come out of the tip of gandalf's staff. This is so fucking cool. Good thing I got a 144hz monitor, good headphones and a mediocre gpu because I'm buying this sucker on Epic Games.
enjoy! the PC version is excellent, especially at high FPS 🥳
I’m definitely hope that this gets enhanced when the Ps5 comes out.
This is THE game to play on acid..
Weird way of spelling hotline miami
Doesn't matter how fast you clean Tetris lines, there's always that maniac that does double t-spins during Zone Battles
Have played Lumines a lot and always wanted to see a Tetris game with the Lumines approach of different music, sound effects and skins. So I am glad this is made.
wtf this is beautiful
well, the first half
Imagine how cool it would be if you could make your own custom songs in the game. Kinda like beat saber
I would attempt to make the tetris cdi soundtrack
A lot of people shrugged this game off so hard but after seeing more gameplay i want it so bad
I've never been a huge fan of Tetris, but this was really good! Gaming critics had described Tetris Effect as a love letter to the classic game from the mid 1980s. Really cool video too 👌👍
It's not beautiful it gorgeous its glorious smart thinking using your Maximum power like that I have not seen anything like it it's amazing it next chapter's display I admire so much thank you for showing us how it's done absolutely incredible 👍😁😉😌🎵
Watching you play this was infuriating, but dam I need this game in my hands. Thanks for the upload my family.
As always the soundtrack of Mizoguchi games is superb.
That second song is godly
d1jal which one?
Pharaoh’s Code
The next Chapter!
Thank you, I love the fact I can play Tetris while the circle of life, rainbow sparkly sparkles infest my eyes. Now its gonna be harder to make lines because i have to watch this amazing effects lolol
just bought this game last night on PSN, streamed it tonight, never felt so relaxed playing a tetris game before like this one, i usually do lvl 18 tetris on the nes, but this it a totally different way of seeing the game now and i love it :)
it's so great :')
boom, decahexatris
for Jeff
...for Jonas!
Hexadecatris
This game is really neck-and-neck
P E R F E C T R I S
Goty 2018
goty? nope
oxZICKxo
Sry, but Super Mario Bros 2 already has that title.
It'll be God of War
and 2 hours later you get bored of same music and play muted
@@redfruitt2656 Fornite is from 2017, so, NOPE
Played the demo in Hong Kong and found out it scores for T-spins.
(Shoutouts from a guy who had Super Monkey Ball as a kid, by the way!)
tetris effect AND monkey ball?? you have excellent taste
