@fourmuddypawsthehealthypet8901 Hi there! I have a questuion. I have a few kitties and I noticed that when the product is completely thawed the nuggets are fairly mushy & my cats are not fans of this texture. I guess if I thaw a lesser amount they might like it better bc the nuggets might hold their shape in not become totally mushy. Tonight, I had to offer bone broth over the raw nuggets just to get them to finish eating their new S/C Raw food. I also served it cold from the refrigerator. Maybe room temp is better? Please advise Thanks! Debbie Orlich
I'm confused I thought the toppers you can put on your dogs regular food. After reading a question below now I'm thinking the toppers are toppers for raw food. Is that correct? If so how do you suggest changing over to raw? I thought when changing over you have to do it gradually.
Sorry for any confusion, Priscilla. You can use the toppers on both a dry kibble diet, canned diet or a raw diet, even diets that you prepare completely at home. It depends on the needs of the pet and what's already in the food. For instance, some of our raw diets already include raw goat milk and bone broth in their formulas so you wouldn't necessarily have to add anything else unless your pet required some additional nutritional support. Generally speaking, you do want to transition gradually to a raw diet but it all depends on what you've been feeding prior to switching to raw, your individual pet and other factors. Here's a link to our website with more information on transitioning to a raw diet. fourmuddypaws.com/nutrition/raw-food
I have started using this with our Dr Harvey mix.. we use as protein.. but where is the scoop? Or what size is your scoop?? Help! What is or where is the scoop.. I started with meal mixer!
There is no longer a scoop provided in the Meal Mixer bags. If you're using it as a topper than the general guidelines are one 1/4 cup per day for dogs under 20 lbs, one 1/2 cup per day for dogs 21-40 lbs, and one 3/4 cup per day for dogs over 41 lbs.
I've been feeding my 3yr old Stella and Chewey since she was 3mths old. I Have been feeding her the freeze dried raw coated kibble and the meal mixers. I just want to know if the dinner patties are different than the meal mixers. I might try the raw blend as well, thankyou. 😊
Thanks for watching, Eva. We're glad to hear you got your puppy off to a great start; now she's already three years old. The freeze-dried dinner patties are very similar to the meal mixers - they're just in a different shape. There are some different protein options and combination protein options between the two. Still, generally, the beef formula in the Meal Mixers will be the same as the dinner patties. If you're already adding in the meal mixers to your raw coated kibble you're basically creating your own raw blend so moving to that wouldn't really be a change. Always make sure you're adding in some moisture to their diet with either a pet-safe bone broth, raw goat milk, or even filtered water. We love active and engaged pet parents like yourself.
the volume of poop is due to the insoluble fiber in the food and dry food will always have more than raw food which is very low because most of the ingredients are completely digested. The stool volume should be a little lower with the raw coated kibble and the ingredients are typically well digested which helps decrease the stool volume.
I have not ever fed your food but my concern is freezer burn with the food not being vacuum packed. I went through this with Primal when we fed it. I don't like feeding freezer burn to my dogs so I threw out a lot. We are now on Dr Harveys but they are all 4 turning their noses up. I am also concerned with recalls as I know Stella and Chewys has had some.
Hi, I have recently adopted a 2 year old toy poodle, Hana. She weights about 5lbs. I am very confused with all the product that you offer. Can you please help me select a healthy balance food for her?
Congratulations on the new addition to the family! We always recommend feeding as much whole fresh foods that you can so going with a raw diet would be both easy for you and cost-effective. The nutritional benefits of feeding a whole fresh food diet are tremendous and Hana will thrive. The alternative is doing the Raw Coated or Raw Blend Small Breed formula in their baked diets. We do recommend you always add some moisture into the diet too with either a raw goat milk or a pet-safe bone broth. That will be both tasty and nutritious for her.
Can I feed this as a complete meal? Right now I am feeding my dog's the raw coated kibble but I want to switch to frozen Raw patties and freeze dried patties for travel, are they the same? Is it a complete diet? Do I need to add anything?
Hi Maggie, thanks for watching. You can feed this as a complete meal. Of course, we love to add in fresh foods whenever possible too. While the raw diet is not the same as the baked kibble you can certainly use the kibble when traveling. A lot of people will do a mix of dry food and raw throughout the week. We just don't recommend using raw and kibble at the same mealtime.
Based on the feeding guideline my 60lb dog gets 2 1/4 large patties a day. Do I give her one patty in the morning and one at night? Is that enough for her? I don’t want to under feed her.
Generally speaking, you should feed approximately 2 - 2 1/2 % of an adult dog's bodyweight so that would be about right. We'd recommend splitting that over two meal times. It will be easier for them to digest it that way. Keep on eye on her weight and adjust the quantity accordingly. Every dog's metabolism and activity level is different so you might need to increase or decrease the daily amount to keep her at her ideal weight.
There have been studying that show the best time to feed a dog is between the hours of 8am and 4pm. A dogs body absorbs nutrients the best between those hours. Rodney Habib just made a video with a better explanation of the study. You can find it on TH-cam. Feeding once or twice a day doesn't matter as much as feeding at the correct time of day.
Where are the new videos? I’m ready for more! Any opinions on kibble? I cannot get my dog to eat raw. I have been looking at Fromm recommended by some people. I do have concerns about nutritional values.
Everything after the word salt on the bags of dog food is 1% so all those ingredients like blueberry or etc that's put on the bag after the salt means there is almost none of those in the food.. just a helpful tip
Just switched to Stella and Chewys after seeing Zignature on the FDA Reports. Also wasn’t to keen on only have lentils and peas as the veggies. Stella has the best profile out of any food on the market
We definitely believe in rotating your pet's food on a regular basis to help keep them in good health. You can reduce the risk of systemic allergies which can come from feeding the same food over a long period of time and by rotating food you're giving them the variety they need. Plus, of course, supplementing with as much fresh foods as you can. Stella & Chewy's is a great choice for your dog. Thanks for watching!
There are synthetic vitamins and minerals added to Stella and Chewy's diets. There are, however, a number of companies that do not add synthetic vitamin and minerals into their raw diets, like Answer's Pet Food, Primal Pet Foods, OC Raw Dog, and others. Read the ingredient labels to see if any have been added.
Hi Deltisha! Thanks for watching. We currently don't have Vital Essentials in our raw assortment but if we bring it in we'll certainly do an In the Kitchen episode with them.
I would love to see an interview with someone from Darwin's raw food company. I can't afford pre made for my 4 Rottweilers, they eat a total of 13lbs of raw food a day!! so I used a k9 nutritionist to formulate a raw meal plan for my dogs. It's definitely more effort making each meal yourself but it's a lot cheaper and just as nutritional.
Thanks for watching, Angela and that's a great question. The transition process depends on what your pet is currently eating. If they're already on a good quality, meat-based diet with either whole grains or grain free the transition can be a bit quicker. Some people just switch over immediately but most people will transition over a period of about 10 days or so. We prefer a transition of doing the kibble in the morning and then the raw at night because kibble takes longer to digest than a raw food diet. Another option is to alternate days - kibble one day and raw the next day. Certainly transitioning by adding in a mixer to your pet's kibble will help them boost their protein and lower their carbohydrates and get them used to having more raw in their diet. You'd also feed a little less kibble as you add in the freeze-dried mixers to their food. We do recommend adding some additional moisture (bone broth, raw goat or cow milk) into the diet, even if you're feeding a frozen raw diet. It can help with the transition as well. If you have any more questions, please let us know. We're passionate about the health and well-being of our dogs and cats.
@@akdphilly - we're so excited you're getting your puppy off to a great start! We'd probably start with either chicken or beef to begin with. Yes! Eating a diet with fresher and less processed ingredients makes a big difference. Thanks for watching and learning more about good nutrition for your puppy. We understand your confusion when it comes to reading about grain free diets. We wrote a blog post with a lot of information we hope you find helpful. There’s no simple answer but always a good rule is to add in as much Whole Foods into your pet’s diet as you can and limit as best you can the amount of highly processed foods. Stella & Chewy’s offers both fresh, raw diets as well as a baked diet with and without grains. They also have a new line of gently cooked diets. Their baked line, Raw Blend, actually incorporates freezer dried raw with their baked kibble. It might be something you’d want to look into. From my understanding its not necessarily grain free that causes the issue, but the inclusion of peas. Personally I'm waiting for more research to be done.
In general, we'd recommend defrosting in the refrigerator overnight. You can, however, leave it on the counter when you're ready to serve it so it gets to room temperature.

the important thing to look at is the actual cost of feeding and not the cost of an individual bag of food. Higher quality foods have more nutrition or Kcals packed into each serving so you end up using less food per meal. That could be the difference between feeding a 50 lb dog six cups of food of a poor quality diet full of fillers versus feeding 1 1/2 cups of higher quality, more nutrient-dense, and bioavailable food. So, in fact, the actual cost of feeding per serving is less in a high-quality diet than in a sub-par quality diet and your dog is getting higher-quality nutrition and smaller poops to boot. The goal is to feed the best food based on the individual budget and know what your pet is eating. Reading ingredient labels and understanding what's in our pet's food is the first step, at any rate, always add in some fresh, whole foods, into your pet's diet. The short answer is yes. Feeding a raw diet of muscle meat, organ meat and bones with some percentage of fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to maintain the proper weight for our dogs and cats. Feeding a biologically-appropriate diet that's fully digestible for our pets makes the nutrients very bio-available resulting in less waste (less poop!) and giving your pet everything they need to thrive. These would all be good options in helping to slim down your pet - just watch the feeding guidelines (raw is about 2 - 2 1/2% of their ideal adult bodyweight). It really does make a difference but do make sure you go slowly if your pet has a significant amount of weight to lose. Thanks for watching!

It really does make a difference but do make sure you go slowly if your pet has a significant amount of weight to lose. Thanks for watching!
Jeffrey Jensen perfect, thanks for this great response!
@@heimrheljar - you're welcome! We love helping people take good care of their pets. It can be very confusing and we try and help demystify at least some of the information out there.
