I gave Kiwi a mealworm, but it was too small and I ended up going out at 10pm to get food for Kiwi.

원래 위협을 느낄때 날개를 펼치고 앞다리를 같이 펼쳐들거나 모으고 양옆으로 벌리는데 저때는 먹이를 짚고있는 상태니까 저런 자세가 나오는 거에요ㅎ

I used to be scared of the praying mantis by their alien look and merciless hunting behaviour. Then I force myself to watch plenty of mantid videos and now I'm starting to find them adorable especially when they turn their head around like human. Your Kiwi looks incredibly cute and friendly to you.

I couldn’t find anything on why Kiwi was curling its back and lifting its wings, but perhaps Kiwi was worried you would steal her meal? Since mantises are a predator, and much like other predators, they have a tendency to be protective of food.

Yes, that is correct. She was probably startled and thought Pleasebe was trying to steal her food. This behaviour can also be found in other big species like her. Kiwi is a Tenodera sp.

And what a responsible dad you are for going out so late at night to search for her food 🥰 My female mantis struck the exact same open winged abdominal twister pose after a meal too! I think it’s something they do when they’re feeling threatened though I’m sure there really wasn’t anything out of the ordinary happening for her to put on that display 😅 She only did it that one time. Dead leaf mantises will stay close and attack any animal that comes too close to their eggs.

As a person who has the phobia, what terrifies me about insects is their creepy long, thin body parts and their jumpscare movements. Thats the reason why I dont see spiders as threat, all they do is walking and they look less alien

사마귀 암컷은 짝짓기를 하지않아도 무정란을 만들어 산란합니다. 짧은 여생을 번식을 위해 살아가는 곤충이니 짝을 지어주는게 맞겠지요?

Kiwi is so cute 🥰. I live in Australia and have a juvenile Giant Rainforest Mantis, her name is Aurora, she has moulted once with me in the 3 weeks I’ve had her. I feed her XS crickets, may have to go up a size in food soon, she loves them.

My Chinese Mantis molted, her whole body is crooked.
Me and my family are planning on feeding, watering and changing her position frequently until her next molt, will probably be a month or two... *Do you know what to do?* We're giving her small amounts of organic honey (the healthiest kind we have), and her usual feeder beetles, on a toothpick.
The next successful molting will likely result in the mantis becoming normal. But it's case-by-case so it looks like I'll have to wait for the next molting with good care. Place a wooden or plastic net so that the mantis can hang from high places.

I’m not exactly sure, but I think why Kiwi acted weird was because it was an act of camouflage or something. Mantises are usually used to staying in the wild so maybe Kiwi was acting like it was still in the wild.
저도 사마귀 되게좋아했었는데 애지중지 키우던애들도 연가시때문에 많이 죽더라구요..곱등이,메뚜기 같은애들 내장에 있는 연가시 유충이 사마귀한테먹히고나서도 뱃속에서 계속자라요 사마귀 다 키운담에 물에 꼬리부분 담구지마세요 연가시가 들어있을시 무조건죽습니다ㅠ
