My first brushless upgrade. I bought the wl kit that has everything it should rip.
I bought this for my 3 yo and it's been a champ. Kid's been ramming it into walls, light posts, curbs and so on and the only thing that broke is the roof where the light bar is attached. Now, I wanna make it brushless but also gear it down. I've been thinking about a smaller 2845 motor and gearbox from Axial SCX 10. It would give it decent speed and retain torque when we go for walks in the forest.
This rc car has a low gear ratio, so I think gearing down is not needed anymore ... get a Transmitter with Throttle Dual Rate adjustment to make it even slower for your boy

A question. And as for the cost of maintenance and repairs, especially the transmission, how expensive or likely has it been?
Sorry, i cannot provide that info because I usually dont count the cost I put on my rc cars

Nice I still think that the brushed version considering price for entry is fast. Like anything if you invest more money it will improve. Nice upgrades.

Looks like it runs great. What kind of battery are you running in this setup and what is the run time? Are you going to make a video of how you fitted the upgrades into the body shell and what mods you had to do? My 12429 is completely stock, and I plan to do a similar upgrade.
The lipo battery was 2s, 2200 mAh from my Wltyos 144001 but I did not take note of the actual runtime. The upgrades (i.e. ESC,motor,servo) were all same sizes as the stock so there was no issue to fitthem under the body shell. There is no video for now, but will try to make one later on.

I was pretty happy with the speed of mine stock but the mods i did to the body make me wonder if I should do this. Who doesn't want action figures hitting warp speed. 🤣

I have standary WL 12429 n can 40km/h
Did you use a speedometer to measure that speed? 40 km/h is the top speed they put on the box but the actual speed I measured was only 26 km/h
I get on stock 31 with no mods yet! Not the 40 claimed but I am happy that it does hit above 30
How does it do off road? I’m thinking about a 2000kv for rock bouncing
It is too fast for off-road driving, and I think it needs wider tires.... If you will use 200 kv motor, it will be almost just as fast as the stock brushed motor.
@@RcModwerks23 Thanks for the info!! Yes, it seems too fast for off road. I used a 2000kv on my wltoys124019, it is only slightly faster than stock, but the initial push is much higher, now I can jump 2 feet straight from a 15 cm ramp. The stock can't do that XD
@@RcModwerks23 why is 67kph too fast for off-road? is this extremely breakable? My big rock goes 70kph and I bash it off road constantly.
I too like the 12429 as a rock bouncer. what is the speed of the rift rock bouncer for example? I guess it too is ~60kph right?
@@mnakash77 It is considered fast because it is a smaller scale rc car, but for the huge 1/8 or 1/7 rc cars +100 km/h is considered slow for them :)
Hey I've had problems finding a good steering servo for 12429. All the replacements I bought are a small one that doesn't fit right. Got a suggestion a on a good 5 wire I can use ?
I just used a normal 1/10 scale servo from my other rc cars, ... when you buy a servo make sure that it has the same size a s the stock servo
@@RcModwerks23 thanks for getting back. That's the problem. I've ordered 2 replacements. They are quite a bit smaller. I got it working. But it doesn't work great or fit well. It's really been a pain in the ass. My12402a has the same one as 12429 but you cannot find it any where. I really don't want to spend $40 on a servo for an $80 car. But.... Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks. Joe
12402a is waiting on parts so I can steal it for now. But I'll need one eventually.

Nope, I only ran it with 2s lipo ... running on 3s is not good for the diff gears

You cant use the original tx/Rx ... you also need to upgrade them

@@ikaieu You need to upgrade the following: ESC, motor, servo, transmitter/receiver
You don't need to change the transmitter, you just have to bind to the receiver from 124017, it works

@@ani_aja3992 i used the stock 2s Lipo Battery from my other Wltoys rc car 124019 ... you can use any 2s Lipo Battery as long as it fits in your car.
what is runtime on new motor 2s and 3s?
