  • Hello TH-cam and welcome to the channel
    Today's video was going to be about trying to revitalise the original 540 stock motor in my Wltoys 12429. Using distilled water to clean the internals. However it didn't provide the improvement i was looking for. So after a light bulb moment i tried to fit the 550 brushed motor out of the quicker Wltoys 144001. And what do you know it pretty much goes straight in! This will obviously work on other Wltoys buggy with a similar chassis such as the 12423 and the 12428 etc.

      Yes, it's not leagues ahead of the old motor. But if yours is feeling a little ropey and tired it's a nice (cheapish) way of giving it a boost! 👍

    Nice video. I've often wondered this but never found a run video of someone who converted from 540 to 550.
    On these 12428 and 12429 models the stock the stock 540 motor often dies cause they are actually gear pretty high for a rock racer so they can achive a decent speed on a 2S Li-ion Battery.
    However this puts too much load on the motor especially when running a lipo and burns them out.
    Alot of people do a brushless conversion but you need to upgrade the motor, ESC, radio, reciver and servo at which point it can become a bit pricy for such a cheap RC car. A 550 is good option because not only is it much cheaper cause you only have to swap out the motor but the extra size gives you more torque so not only does it perform better but the motor is not working as hard and is likely to last longer then the 540 brushed motor.
    Again well done on sharing this upgrade 👏

      Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes it worked rather well, I do really like the 12429 but it is a little tall in the gearing department for a rock bouncer. I'm going to try and lock the diffs to at some point. 👍😄

    The epoxy wltoys uses melts at high temps. So if you use a soldering iron to hear the screws, they'll come out and you can get that motor off the mount.

    • @theminiatureconstructionco4556
      @theminiatureconstructionco4556  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not the motor mounts that are the issue, it's the horrible little grub screw in the pinion gear. I've yet to get one out successfully even heating the adhesive. 😞

      This is one of those points where wltoys seems to fall down hard, they sell all the spares you could want, but they make it difficult/impossible for most people to fully tear down the cars for repairs.
